00:00Prevention, care, but above all awareness of the impact of neurological diseases on the
00:10health system, on people, on families.
00:13These are the main themes that come from Ancona, headquarters of the Extra G7 of Health, chaired
00:18by Italy, organized by the European Academy of Neurologists in collaboration with SIN,
00:24the Italian Society of Neurology and with the Italian Strategy for Brain Health.
00:29In Western countries, within the next 20-25 years, there will be a doubling of the population
00:34with dementia, which would mean having in Italy 2.5 million elderly people affected by cognitive
00:40decline, with the total social assistance and health costs that could exceed 50 billion
00:46euros in charge of the national health system.
00:49Today, I must say, there is not much awareness and perception of what the burden and weight
00:54of neurological diseases is, and there is a certain inability to sum up mental and neurological
01:00diseases within a single large chapter.
01:04We want, first of all, to open a discussion, a greater awareness and culture, because we
01:10know that through prevention and better care of neurological diseases, we can contribute
01:16to the improvement of the national health system.
01:21Medicine is making significant progress, experts guarantee, but it is still essential
01:27to focus on prevention, because the brain, once damaged, has a hard time regenerating.
01:32We teach children how to brush their teeth to prevent cancer.
01:37We teach children that physical exercise, sleeping well, eating properly, can already
01:44improve, commit, not use, stay all day using the phone, but have other activities
01:51that can help the brain to work in the right way, so already at the level of children.
01:58And also nutrition, because we know that there is a very important link between the intestine
02:03and the brain.
02:04Ancona, for a year, will be the European Capital for Brain Health, becoming in fact a reference
02:10point of a new project that provides Italy with a manifesto for brain health, together
02:16with countries such as Switzerland, Germany, Norway, Finland, Denmark and India.
02:21I strongly wanted to bring this award to the city of Ancona, because Italy can and must
02:26with its background, which is One Health, that is, we can with our food system, our
02:34way of eating, our ability to relate, our culture, we can be a nation that can be
02:40the capital of brain health, not only European capital, but world capital.
02:44This is the role for Italy, this is what we hope to bring and disseminate, starting from Ancona.
02:48So giving priority to brain health is a global imperative for public health, and making sure
02:54that neurologists understand the importance of the neurological problems and the weight
02:58that these diseases carry.
03:00We know that about 43% of the overall load of neurological diseases are.
03:08We know that about 40% of the load of disease is of neurological disease.
03:15The concept of brain health is also little known, not only among neurologists, but also
03:19among professionals.
03:21It is essential that young people, medical students, those who want to enter the biomedical
03:27field, understand what brain health means.
