00:00The Philippines and South Korea have strengthened bilateral ties and cooperation
00:09following the state visit of South Korean President Yun Soo-kyun.
00:14President Fernand R. Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos,
00:22South Korean President Yun, and First Lady Kim Kyoon-hee
00:26in Malacanang this morning.
00:28The bilateral meeting of the two leaders was productive.
00:32They discussed issues related to politics, security, and defense.
00:38They exchanged views on regional and international issues,
00:43such as the West Philippine Sea and the Korean Peninsula.
00:48Some important agreements were reached between the two countries,
00:52including the strengthening of maritime cooperation between the Philippine Coast Guard and the Korean Coast Guard.
00:59To strengthen understanding, mutual trust, and confidence,
01:03and for the purpose of the promotion, preservation, and protection of our mutual maritime interests,
01:09including maritime order and safety in the Asia-Pacific region,
01:13we have signed a memorandum of understanding between the Philippine Coast Guard
01:17and the Korean Coast Guard on maritime cooperation.
01:21We agreed to enhance our cooperation in the defense industry.
01:23In particular, Korea will actively take part in the Re-Horizon III phase of the modernization of the AFP.
01:30Also, based on the MOU on maritime cooperation signed today,
01:34our two countries will reinforce maritime security partnership in such areas as
01:38tackling transnational crime, information sharing, and conducting search and rescue missions.
01:43They also talked about improving the economy and strengthening human relations.
01:49Several memorandums of understanding were passed,
01:52such as the creation of a feasibility study to study the Bataan Nuclear Plant.
01:58It is said to help strengthen the supply of electricity to the country.
02:03Forming a framework to enhance the urban development of the two countries in the Philippines
02:08and to carry out strategic operations on the raw materials used in the supply chain.
02:15The loan agreement was signed in the Samar Coastal Road 2 Project,
02:19Laguna Lakes Shore Network Project Phase 1,
02:22and Panay-Gimaraz-Negros Island Bridges Project,
02:25which will further improve transportation, trade, and economy.
02:30The implementation program of the Memorandum of Understanding was passed by the Tourism Department
02:36and the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Korea
02:40for the current year until 2029
02:43to strengthen the bilateral tourism cooperation of the Philippines and South Korea.
02:49The stake visit of the leader of South Korea was held
02:53on the 75th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the Philippines and South Korea,
02:59which was established in March 1949.
03:02President Marcos Jr. said,
03:05this is a symbol of the rich history of the two countries.
03:08Thousands of soldiers sent to the Philippines
03:13when the war broke out in Korea in 1950.
03:17The relationship between the Philippines and South Korea
03:21in the field of defense, security, maritime cooperation, and trade continues to strengthen.
03:27This is the only clear direction ahead
03:30to further strengthen the strategic relationship of the two countries.
03:34As a geopolitical environment is only becoming more complex,
03:39we must work together to achieve prosperity for our peoples
03:43and to promote a rules-based order governed by international law,
03:49including the 1982 UNCLOS and the binding 2016 Arbitral Award.
03:56I hope that my state visit will serve as an opportunity
03:59to not only further enhance our trade and economic cooperation,
04:03but also widen the scope of our partnership to include future-oriented sectors
04:07such as security, digital technology, and energy.
