00:00Good morning.
00:10Last week...
00:11You are going to be selling second-hand cars to real customers.
00:15A lot of people in my life said to me, you should be a car salesman.
00:18The teams were taken to a giant car supermarket.
00:23Ansel's team started well.
00:25Let's go into the deal then.
00:27Fantastic.
00:28Great.
00:30But ended in disarray.
00:31What have you been doing for four hours?
00:33Selling some cars.
00:34Bullshit.
00:35On the other side...
00:36Why don't you just go ahead and do that?
00:37Sayid!
00:38Can you just go and sell, please?
00:40Project manager Sharon struggled with her team.
00:43How can he know what he's doing? He's never done this before.
00:46The boys aren't listening to me because they know I don't know anything about cars.
00:51Where's our project manager anyway?
00:53She's crying somewhere.
00:55I really do think that we've lost.
00:59In the boardroom, Sharon came under fire.
01:02In terms of Sharon saying that we wasn't backing her,
01:05I would probably question what there was to back.
01:08The result stunned everyone.
01:10Sharon won.
01:12Cheers.
01:13Cheers.
01:14But victory soon turned sour.
01:17Tell me one thing that I said about Sharon and I will back off, like I've said.
01:20You're talking absolute shit.
01:22Fuck off. You're not even listening to me, Paul.
01:24As a team, I think we're pretty much finished.
01:27In the boardroom, Ansel brought Joe and Sam back to face the music.
01:32Samuel, do you think if you weren't there, it would have made any difference?
01:36There is a message coming from above.
01:39Joe, you've been here too many times. You are fired.
01:45I was sort of expecting this because I accept the fact that I've been here four times.
01:49Joe, Joe, there comes a time when everybody,
01:53everybody is saying enough's enough.
01:55Joe, you're fired.
01:57Can I just ask one more time, just to give me the one more last chance?
02:00I'm afraid not.
02:01And I'm not going to be in this boardroom again.
02:02No, I'm afraid not. That's it. Back to the house now.
02:05Joe became the sixth casualty of the boardroom.
02:09Now eight remain to fight for the chance to become the apprentice.
02:15At the house, the candidates try to guess who's been fired.
02:19From what I saw, which was not a lot,
02:21but Joe doesn't seem to have done anything wrong.
02:23My gut feeling says Samuel's gone.
02:25I think Samuel, and I don't want it to be really,
02:27but then I think it's going to be Samuel.
02:36Cheers, pal.
02:38Cheers, mate.
02:41Cheers, pal.
02:54Hello?
02:55The cars are on the way to pick you up. We'll be there in 20 minutes.
02:58They're taking you to Chigwell School.
03:00OK, that's brilliant. Thanks, bye.
03:04We're going to Chigwell School and we're leaving in 20 minutes.
03:0820 minutes?
03:09Yeah, the cars are on their way.
03:12They're going to be taught a lesson.
03:14If it's a high school, they will totally and utterly rip us to shreds.
03:32Chigwell offers the type of schooling Sir Alan never had.
03:36He's here to tell the students
03:38hard work and qualifications are what matter.
03:41Let's have a reality check here,
03:43because here's what happens in the real world.
03:45The first thing they're going to look at is what they got.
03:48What she got, what he got, that's it.
03:50No qualifications in the bin. Simple as that.
03:55And it's hard work that he's got in store for the candidates.
04:02Good afternoon.
04:05Now, you might be wondering what you're doing here.
04:07I've just finished giving a pep talk to a whole group of sixth formers
04:12and interestingly enough, a large section of that audience
04:15are going to be your target consumer for the next task.
04:18Now, two of you, from my recollection, have not been team managers.
04:23Michelle and Dunn.
04:25So, you three, out of those two, who would you like to lead your team?
04:31We'd like Michelle, please, Sir Alan.
04:33Michelle, step over there.
04:38The good friend of mine, Mr Philip Green,
04:40arguably Britain's greatest retailer,
04:44he has given us Top Shop Oxford Street.
04:48He's sectioned off an area especially for you.
04:51You're going to select your own ranges of merchandise
04:54targeted for young girls.
04:57The day after, you're going to put it all on display in your own sections
05:01and you're open to the public.
05:03Pole position, Oxford Circus,
05:06the greatest retailing pitch in this country.
05:09And it's very simple.
05:11The team that ends up taking the most amount of money is going to win
05:15and the team that doesn't, one of you, will get fired.
05:19Over the next 48 hours,
05:21the teams will be thrown into the centre of Britain's retail trade.
05:27This is the largest clothing store in Europe.
05:30100,000 square feet of retail space,
05:34visited by a quarter of a million shoppers every week.
05:38It's all about fashion. Fashion is fickle.
05:40You know, one minute you've got the right product,
05:42it sells like hot potatoes,
05:44the next minute you wouldn't be seen dead in it.
05:47And that's why the skill in this task is choosing the right merchandise.
05:53To help them choose, Sir Alan's found each team a focus group.
05:57We all in? Yep.
05:59So we've prepared a list of questions, we've got an hour to go through them.
06:03Six form girls from Chigwell School are typical customers.
06:07They could offer a unique insight into the task ahead.
06:10What is the kind of look at the minute? What is what's trendy?
06:13In the winter it's going into more military style now.
06:16If you were going to go to Topshop and you were going to go on Saturday,
06:19what would you be buying?
06:21It's all the jackets and stuff that have the double buttons
06:24that make it look like a sailor outfit.
06:26Or like a... OK, all right.
06:28Yeah, just... A casual jacket. Yeah.
06:30Are you thinking about buying that kind of stuff within the next week?
06:33Yeah.
06:35What we really need to know is kind of what Topshop's all about.
06:38So this is an opportunity for you guys just to talk about clothes.
06:41Dunn's boys have fashion expert Sharon on board.
06:44But with 14 teenage girls to chat up, she's sidelined.
06:49What don't you like from a sales...
06:51You know you get the sales assistants who are actually on the floor.
06:54What approach don't you like?
06:56I like advice, but I hate if you push me.
06:59I don't like that.
07:01Yeah, no, the push, you know.
07:03It might be that there has to be two people out of our team on the shop floor
07:06actually helping the girls find the clothes.
07:08How would you feel about that if lads were serving everyone?
07:11I prefer a gay guy.
07:16That's absolutely fine.
07:19It's too laddy.
07:21Too much of a man.
07:23Too much of a man, yeah.
07:25Sue me.
07:29Thanks, girls. See you.
07:31See you.
07:33I got a shit load from that. Did you?
07:35That coat thing is a big thing.
07:37The winter coat and the jumpers, they will spend money on the hats, the scarves.
07:41Accessories was massive as well.
07:43It was.
07:492.30pm, Oxford Circus.
07:54The stores laid on a fashion show of its four main lines.
07:58A military-inspired range called Admiralty.
08:03Modern Oriental.
08:07A retro style called Aviator.
08:11And all black, Gothic Fairytone.
08:15Each team can sell two lines.
08:17Having heard the focus group and seen the clothes,
08:20they must choose items that'll appeal to shoppers but won't clash when mixed.
08:26The teams have an hour to decide behind closed doors.
08:31What are we saying? Admiralty and Gothic?
08:34Or am I putting words into people's mouths?
08:37I would go with you.
08:39OK, I don't.
08:41The stronger ranges are Admiralty and Aviator.
08:45Let's get consensus in the room first.
08:47So which ones I'm going to be negotiating for?
08:49Samuel's not in agreement.
08:51I would like to be able to have a style that can take you from casual to dressy
08:54just by sticking on this sequin bolero,
08:56looking like you can go to the party now, that kind of thing.
08:59And I think what the girls were talking about,
09:01they wanted coats, they wanted jumpers, they wanted handbags.
09:04Which one is the most important that we get out of the four?
09:07Gothic.
09:09I'm going to go for Admiralty and Aviator,
09:12but I'll obviously agree and support,
09:15so I'm happy to go along with that.
09:18If we're going to go for casual, then Navy and Aviator.
09:23So those are the two, yeah?
09:25You could mix Gothic and Aviator together.
09:27I'm not really a big fan of the Aviator, I think it's a bit boring.
09:31So the two that I'd go for is the Admiral and the Modern Oriental,
09:36to mix it, really mix it up.
09:38It comes back and haunts me, but I stand by this,
09:41that I genuinely do not think that the Oriental is going to look good on me.
09:45Very quickly, with all four options,
09:47it seems to me that the Modern Oriental is the only option that we have
09:51that offers different colours.
09:53A lot of girls, when they go out shopping,
09:55especially when I'm out going to bars and restaurants,
09:57I see a lot of colourful stuff and I appreciate it,
09:59I know my friends appreciate it,
10:01so therefore I'd really push that.
10:03To be honest, I've got a beautiful Oriental top,
10:05and I've worn it once.
10:06It was really hard to get rid of my jeans,
10:08it was really hard to get a skirt to match.
10:10We only had to sell it for the weekend for one day.
10:12Yeah, I realise that.
10:13I think Sharon has the fashion knowledge and the expertise,
10:16but I can't stand her smugness.
10:18But hopefully on the sales floor it would be our turn
10:21to really turn it on and sell,
10:23because that's not something that Sharon does.
10:25I think we've had her input in a lot of things,
10:27and I don't think we need any more.
10:29Basically, ideally, first and second choice,
10:31Admiralty and Gothic fairy tale
10:33with some colourful accessories to bring the range up.
10:36It was interesting when they were discussing the rangers
10:39that they weren't prepared to take what she suggested as a given.
10:43In fact, I think their instinct was to go for something else.
10:46They haven't sat back and said,
10:48you choose it, Sharon, which I think I would have done had I been them,
10:51because if she gets it right, fine, and if she doesn't, it's all her fault,
10:54but they haven't been taking it that way.
10:57The teams must tell Nick and Margaret what they've chosen.
11:00If they've both gone for the same lines, they'll have to negotiate.
11:06Dunne will negotiate for his team,
11:08while Michelle has nominated Ruth to negotiate for her.
11:12What's your first choice?
11:14We want Gothic.
11:15Gothic's your first choice? Yeah.
11:17Which one was your first choice?
11:19Admiralty. Admiralty.
11:22OK.
11:23We would like Gothic and Admiralty.
11:27We would like that too.
11:29Right, OK.
11:31If you give me Gothic and Aviator, we can shake hands and walk away.
11:35Deal done. Yeah?
11:38No.
11:39If we both agree our number one choice, we flick a coin for the second.
11:43So if we both agree which one we definitely want and we flick a coin for the last one,
11:47at least then we've both got a product that we want to sell.
11:51Make the decision, you're the project manager.
11:53We'll run it your way.
11:55OK, I get Gothic, you get Admiralty, we'll flick for the last two. Yeah?
11:59Who's calling? I'll call.
12:01Let's flip it.
12:03Heads.
12:05Heads. Yes.
12:06OK, we will have Aviator.
12:10Yeah? OK.
12:12Cheers, Dunne.
12:14Ruth walks off with Gothic and Aviator.
12:17If I've got his eye contact, I'm stronger than he will work.
12:20Yes!
12:21See, to be honest, I still stand by Gothic and Aviator.
12:25Yeah, but they weren't willing to give it up on it.
12:28I know, but you've got Admiralty and Modern Oriental.
12:31It's just going to go. It just doesn't go.
12:33Seriously, they just don't go.
12:35We're fucked because I'm going to have to look.
12:37Sharon.
12:40Listen, can you have a word with her?
12:42She's running around with her face all very negative.
12:45Walking around like that in front of the other team is not good.
12:48Sharon.
12:51I'm not really impressed, to be honest,
12:53because we've got Admiralty and we've got Modern Oriental
12:57and they're both really different ends of a spectrum
13:00so they don't actually complement each other well
13:02because they're two key looks.
13:04At the moment, we're kind of stuck,
13:06so it'll be a case of just getting organised,
13:08so a lot of creative thinking.
13:11Well, let's prioritise. We've got the leaflets.
13:14Confident it got the best lines,
13:16the other teams put Samuel in charge of marketing.
13:19If the customer spends over a certain amount,
13:21we give them a free massage.
13:23We need to determine that.
13:25Don't forget I go shopping all the time.
13:27If you want a massage while you're out,
13:29you don't want an Indian massage
13:30when they're going to rip stuff in your hair and all that sort of thing.
13:33Got any new ideas?
13:34No, not what I can think of at the moment.
13:37I need to think about it.
13:39But, obviously, I was... Sorry, I don't know.
13:41What are you suggesting?
13:43I'm asking if you've got any other ideas.
13:45And I'm saying no, not at the moment.
13:47While her team struggle with marketing,
13:49Michelle's promoted herself to the VIP area.
13:53Or maybe that colour.
13:55This is where selected customers get personal advice on clothes
13:59to encourage them to spend even more.
14:01Shall I try it on, do you think? I would give it a go.
14:04She's decided to make this her responsibility.
14:06But first, she's going to try out the merchandise.
14:10If I'm going to be totally honest,
14:12I feel a little bit like a circus ringmaster.
14:14What do you think?
14:16I don't.
14:18Can I have some champagne while I'm trying it on?
14:25Let me just look at how short it is when I bend over as well.
14:28That's all right, isn't it?
14:29Yeah, cos you've got the leggings on, no-one will be able to see your bum.
14:32OK, so whilst I'm getting used to this, let's just see what else we've got.
14:35Erm, where's her other stuff?
14:39If it's a leaflet, a promotional leaflet of some sort...
14:41Can I just finish what I'm saying for one second, right?
14:44So it's 20 pounds, if it's over 20 pounds...
14:46You don't need to get aggressive.
14:47No, I'm not.
14:48I want to confirm whether we're going to get...
14:50Samuel, I want to see if we actually get any ideas,
14:52otherwise we're going to be going round, she's going to come in and blow it all up.
14:55These are specific ideas.
14:56We can't just say a leaflet to her.
14:58Obviously, I said that point a minute ago.
15:00I think we have to be specific about what we're saying.
15:02We need Michelle in it.
15:04Come and be a VIP. Thank you.
15:06I'll come and be a VIP person again.
15:08It's going well. I think I've just got my outfit sorted.
15:12The look that I'm favouring today is a nice, sleek, sharp brown, black T-shirt on the top,
15:18with a kind of washed-out faded denim, shortish skirt.
15:22People are going to see me in this style and think,
15:24crikey, she's got style.
15:326pm. The teams head home.
15:36Back at the house, tensions have finally come to a head between Sharon and the boys.
15:42It's obvious there's problems in the team.
15:44I think it's about time we confronted them, to be honest.
15:46What's wrong, Sharon?
15:48I think I've made my views quite clear, what I'm upset about.
15:52I don't know what you're upset about.
15:54Tell me.
15:56You don't take my views into account, and you dismiss quite a lot of things.
16:01I disagree. To be totally honest, you've got a lot of experience in fashion design,
16:04and I'm happy to listen to you.
16:07At the end of the day, we made team decisions on whatever we made.
16:09It was all team decisions.
16:11You're three going at your little gang, and it's almost like you're playing kiddies thing,
16:15and you gang up. You're backing him, and he's backing you.
16:18No, not at all.
16:19And you and Don have got a problem, and he's haven't got a problem.
16:22To be honest...
16:23I think you're just being paranoid.
16:25I'm not being paranoid.
16:26It's obvious that you've got the problem, though.
16:28I'm not the only one who's got a problem, because you and Paul are having a go at me.
16:31Don, as a project manager, is sitting there quiet like he always does.
16:34I do not need to listen to three boys ganging up on me because you can't work as a team.
16:38We were supposed to work as a team in this one.
16:40How do you think he's ganging up? Paul's not ganging up with nobody.
16:43I'm getting tired of this fucking whole team brush.
16:46You just tell her one thing that I've done.
16:48Sharon, do you know what?
16:49No, will you shut up?
16:50No, I won't shut up.
16:51I'm not backing off.
16:52Do you know what? Everybody's stabbing every fucker in this house.
16:54Exactly.
16:55So what's the fucking problem?
16:57The problem is that there is actually...
16:59Now I can see people licking each other's arses.
17:01What have I actually said to you?
17:03If any fucker wants to go head-to-head with this house, I'll go head-to-head with him.
17:07Do you know why?
17:08Because I've got shit for everybody.
17:297am.
17:45Today, the teams will be on the go for 14 hours.
17:53So what else I did as well, I'll just give you one of these.
17:56Project manager Michelle has allocated roles for her team on the shop floor,
18:01while she runs the VIP area.
18:03I think you've got to empower a team.
18:05You can't be there, you can't be always looking over everything.
18:07I do see Ansel and Rufus floor assistants.
18:10I see Salman as the marketing, visual kind of guy,
18:13and I don't know why, because I've never worked with him, but it's kind of a gut instinct.
18:23Just before 8, the teams get a first look at the floor area where they'll be selling.
18:27This looks good together.
18:29They must share it, half each.
18:36In volume retailing, presentation is everything.
18:41And Dunn is struggling.
18:43Right, Dunn, what do you want to be your two key sellers today?
18:46What would sell?
18:47Whatever you pick, whatever you want, I'll dress.
18:50We've got basically one of each trend.
18:52What do you want me to do for the busts?
18:56I don't know what I'll sell.
18:57Whatever you think is going to be the most popular.
18:59So can I ask you to do it?
19:01I prefer if you made a decision to be honest.
19:03But what do you think?
19:04This is the point, I don't know.
19:06I'm asking you for your advice.
19:09Well, anything that we've got to be honest,
19:11because we've picked it all, we've got to sell it all.
19:13So whatever you want.
19:17I don't know what I'm...
19:20In this area, Sharon, you're the one that knows more than we do.
19:23And I'm just not...
19:25You know, I want to ask you to make a decision,
19:27but you're not comfortable making a decision.
19:31Sharon is a kind of self-confessed fashion expert in the team.
19:35I just find it quite suspicious that she's not now willing
19:37to make any decisions as to what we put on where.
19:43I don't know, if I want a better word, I think she might be sulking.
19:46Aware Nick and Margaret are watching,
19:48Sharon changes tack and takes charge of Dunn's display.
19:55How high?
19:56Come down two notches, put that one up.
19:59What, so it's not... It's OK now?
20:01Yeah, it's OK there, but put that up.
20:03Listen, let's put...
20:04Sharon, can I just put all the signs and all that stuff in, yeah?
20:07Yeah, turn, turn, yeah?
20:13Does that look tacky, Sharon?
20:15Yeah.
20:19Doors open in ten minutes,
20:21but a store rule is that salespeople must wear what they're selling.
20:36Are you ready?
20:37Excellent.
20:41The teams have 12 hours to sell.
20:43They can compete for the same customers
20:45and keep an eye on one another's progress,
20:48but they can't sell items from the other team's lines.
20:51The promotion that we're doing as well at the moment is,
20:54literally, we're doing it on this half of the store today.
20:57Uh-huh, not that half.
20:58Yeah, no, so not this half. This half's much better.
21:01I was going to say, it depends what sort of...
21:03Yeah.
21:04I thought we were looking to buy our products.
21:07No, no, her friend is buying her products with Michelle.
21:10Oh, right, OK. No problem.
21:11Do you want to move over to your side, then?
21:13Yeah.
21:14OK.
21:16I'm just going to go past all your customers and just fart.
21:20Free tea, coffee, soft drinks, champagne.
21:24Is that something that you'd be interested in?
21:26Michelle's outside, targeting tourists.
21:29Now all she's got to do is give them the VIP treatment.
21:35So, can I get you a drink or anything?
21:38I can order tea and coffee, but that will take some time to arrive.
21:43What's wrong?
21:44Are you getting wet from our air-conditioning?
21:46Oh, I'm sorry. Gosh, let's move you. Sorry about that.
21:50Hiya. We've got a new concession that's just opened at Topshop.
21:53Would you like a free bottle of water? Sure.
21:55For Michelle's team,
21:57Sam's strategy is to entice Oxford Street shoppers with free mineral water.
22:02Hiya. We've got a new concession that's just opened up in Topshop.
22:05Would you like a free bottle of water? Go on.
22:08Please come back and visit us.
22:10He's hoping his free offer will lure girls inside to Ruth and Ansel.
22:15Over here, you've got the gothic fairy town, which is really in this winter.
22:19And it's got some lovely jackets, as you can see here.
22:22Thank you very much for your help.
22:24Despite yesterday's rouse, Dunn's team is off to a good start.
22:29I'd put a red bow diagonally on that.
22:31They've got clear roles.
22:33I'm not just a pretty face, am I?
22:36Sharon's running the changing rooms.
22:38Do you know where the jeans are? I won't put them underneath.
22:41While on the shop floor, Paul is using old-fashioned flattery to sell.
22:44You know what the first thing I look at when I go and see women having a drink?
22:48What's that? What jacket they're wearing.
22:50Oh, really? Yeah, it's crucial to me, don't you think?
22:52Why's that? I just think it's the most important thing on a lady, I think.
22:55That and nice glasses.
22:57Why?
22:59Let's go to the mirror, let's have a look.
23:01Autumn's here. They look gorgeous. Go for it.
23:04Yeah? OK, cool.
23:06This is what everyone's buying, for some reason. I'm not sure.
23:09That's definitely your colour. It goes with your skin complexion.
23:12Did you say you're a 10? OK, here's a 12.
23:18Would you like a complimentary drink from Topshop?
23:21Samuel's free water is disappearing fast,
23:24along with the customers.
23:28His other marketing idea, a free massage, has hit the spot for Margaret.
23:32But no-one else.
23:34I think it's a really lost opportunity, actually,
23:36because we really animate the event normally,
23:39and we have a real buzz and a lot of people coming over,
23:42and we're sort of in this corner here,
23:44and I don't think anybody's really promoting us.
23:50Failing to turn his water into sales, Sam remains undaunted.
23:55I think it's a good way of attracting attention
23:57and kind of, you know, getting our customers,
24:00you know, trying to treat our customers well.
24:02So I think it's a... Yeah, absolutely, it's a good idea.
24:09Did that look like the kind of colours that you'd be interested in?
24:12In the exclusive VIP room, Michelle sold just one top.
24:18But now hopes she's on to a winner
24:20with a trio of fashionable French day-trippers.
24:23Pick some garments that we like the look of,
24:25bring them back, try them on,
24:27and if you like the look of anything, feel free to buy.
24:54So, out of everything that you've tried on, then,
24:56is there anything that you liked, that you'd quite like to buy today?
25:09So there's nothing from here that you'd like to buy?
25:13I don't know.
25:15I don't know.
25:17I don't know.
25:19I don't know.
25:21Anything that you'd like to buy?
25:23Um... No.
25:25Not today, maybe.
25:27OK, well, thank you very much.
25:29You've been doing some damage on the credit card, eh?
25:31Thanks.
25:32No, honestly, it has been an absolute pleasure selling these,
25:35cos as soon as you put it on, it sells itself,
25:37so I don't have to say anything else.
25:39On the shop floor, the tills are ringing.
25:42But only shop staff can take money,
25:44so to keep the team's sales separate,
25:47Dunne's are billed as red and Michelle's as blue.
25:52MUSIC PLAYS
26:02Early afternoon.
26:04Sir Alan's decided to drop in on top shop owner Philip Green.
26:10This is a retail phenomenon.
26:12This floor takes £50 million.
26:15How much?
26:16£50 million.
26:17Bloody hell.
26:21What's the numbers?
26:23We are the red team, yes.
26:25He checks team sales.
26:27OK. Thank you.
26:30Right, who's in charge of the blue team?
26:32That's Michelle, who's downstairs.
26:34I'm part of the blue team.
26:36You're part of the blue team?
26:37Mm-hm.
26:38Right, you've got a minute.
26:39Find me an outfit for 100 quid.
26:41An outfit for 100 quid?
26:42Right, OK.
26:43Outfit for 100 quid, right?
26:45Michelle?
26:47You could have lost the sale by now.
26:49It's done, it's over.
26:50There you go.
26:52There's an outfit for 100 quid.
26:53For 100 pounds?
26:54Yeah.
26:55Fine, good.
26:56£95.
26:57Oh, she's done it?
26:58She's done it.
27:00He said get me for 100 quid,
27:02so I picked up that and a pair of jeans was 94 quid,
27:05and then Samuel said, you've done it.
27:07That's £66 altogether.
27:10Where's that young lady?
27:12Right, come here.
27:14You're going to be unlucky now.
27:15Why?
27:16You see, less haste, more attention.
27:19That was £66.
27:20You cost yourself £34.
27:24There you go.
27:29Have a good day.
27:30I'll give you a bit of help.
27:32Very nice.
27:33Ah!
27:35That's better.
27:36Michelle's been down in her VIP suite since the doors opened.
27:41Hello, Michelle, it's Ansel.
27:43Hiya.
27:44The red team are 23% up on us.
27:48Really?
27:49Yeah, so we really need you back so that we can have a meeting
27:52and discuss it and decide what we're going to do.
27:54Yeah, we're just wrapping up a personal shopping now,
27:58so I'll be back on the phone in about ten minutes.
28:00OK, mate, I'll see you in a minute.
28:02Right, cheers, bye.
28:04After almost an hour and a half with the French girls,
28:07she's managed to sell one skirt for £30.
28:11Thank you, great to meet you.
28:13So what's the actual figures? Do we know what the figures are?
28:16We just heard it was 25% down, 23% down.
28:19The issue is we've just got to be conscientious
28:21that whatever we're doing, we need to decide what we're doing,
28:24and that is go for the higher-priced items
28:26and we need to close people quickly.
28:29So you can wear it to the office, wear it at home,
28:31shopping trips with jeans that look well-sussed.
28:34You see there you've got nice tops for the evening wear?
28:37OK, yeah.
28:38There as well.
28:39If I was to wear this, I wouldn't just wear this here,
28:41I'd wear it again and again and again.
28:43Your 40 quid, if you average it over the times you wear it,
28:46it comes to 20 pence, whatever. Do you know what I mean?
28:49I'll tell you, that would look really nice as well
28:51with some kind of quite skinny jeans or, you know, jeans and boots,
28:54or you could wear that with lots of things.
28:56I think the main thing for Michelle is she needs to be vocal,
28:59she needs to be upfront.
29:01She's now starting to work in terms of bringing money in,
29:03and when you've got four people in the team,
29:05you need to be bringing money in in your different roles.
29:07What about in terms of your formal jacket, what about that one?
29:11I think Michelle weren't around centrally in terms of being here
29:15when we needed to make certain decisions, so we ran a bit ragged.
29:18In fact, I think Ruth and I have made more decisions on today so far,
29:22so I think that's the thing.
29:24It's better this afternoon, this morning was not as good
29:26as it should have been probably.
29:295.30. The rush-hour home has started.
29:33It's late-night shopping.
29:35If sales are going to take off, this is when it'll happen.
29:39But Oxford Street is a competitive place.
29:42The teams will have to work hard to keep their customers.
29:46We've got a new range. I can just show you the range real quickly.
29:49This is really good.
29:51The only thing I'd make you aware of is we're not here tomorrow,
29:54so if you like the clothes...
29:56We have to buy them now.
29:58Can I just make a suggestion?
30:00It's very popular today, so...
30:02Yeah, you tried it on, you know you like it.
30:05To go into one of our bags, OK?
30:07Thank you. There you go. OK, thanks.
30:09So that with jeans alone, put the scarf on,
30:11straight away you match it.
30:13It's really good.
30:17This is the must of the season.
30:19You can mix and match this. It's the biggest look this winter.
30:22Every purchase, you get a free Topshop bag.
30:25This is the start of your new look.
30:27Michelle's team sales push pays off.
30:30The figures are up on Dunn's.
30:32Oh, yeah, we're now 5% behind.
30:345% behind? Yeah, apparently, yeah.
30:36I don't know, to be honest.
30:38Let's see if we can find you a decent-sized sweater.
30:40Dunn's team responds.
30:42Not helped by Saeed chasing Paul's customers.
30:45Do you think that's gorgeous?
30:47That looks really nice, but you need to try on the black skinny jeans
30:50to go with the whole outfit.
30:52Hold on, let's have a quick look. Let's just do the mirror.
30:56I can't remember the last sale I was doing that Saeed hasn't butted in on.
30:59The overall, yeah.
31:01It's really starting to piss me off now.
31:03Wow. Why don't you try them on and see how it looks?
31:06Both together and then make your mind up there. How's that? Cool.
31:09It just seems that whenever there's a girl about,
31:11Saeed just barges in with his fucking skinny jeans
31:14and it's just really starting to piss me off.
31:17I know, but I've got this. I'm excited.
31:20I'm taking the whole set. Give me a second.
31:22Madam, we're ready.
31:24Dunn's team orders are for the boys to pass girls for the changing rooms to Sharon.
31:30That is outdoors.
31:38That's arrogance.
31:40Are they arguing again? I don't know.
31:42Saeed's just got a lead. It's Saeed's fault.
31:44He got a lead and put it into the dressing room and he wouldn't hand it over.
31:47You need long, slender legs and obviously you've got long, slender legs.
31:51I'd put on boots. I'd put on real hardcore boots.
31:56That's the look. That is definitely the way forward.
31:59I think, again, it shows off your figure and everything.
32:05She's got it, hasn't she?
32:07I certainly can, yes.
32:11There you go. How's that?
32:18There we go.
32:20Just let me know when you're ready.
32:30Twelve hours of standing in fashion shoes has taken its toll,
32:35but there's just under two hours to go and nothing to choose between the teams.
32:40If you want to go back on the shop floor,
32:42I'll stand here and see if I can get some people in for the last hour.
32:45I don't want that, no. Give it a go.
32:47Excuse me, ladies. Can I show you our new rangers out today?
32:50We're looking for a meal.
32:52I'll take you to dinner afterwards. We can all wear our jackets and cuddle up.
32:55I'd love to. Is my leaving here?
32:57I'd love to. It was my leaving dinner and I'm not there.
33:00I'm so sad you're leaving as well.
33:02I'm not leaving London.
33:04No, please don't. Are you leaving your job?
33:06Yes, but I'm starting a new one in seconds.
33:08That's amazing. I just hope everything goes well for you.
33:11Are you going to be warm enough in your new job?
33:13I hope so.
33:15I do as well. Do you want a little jacket?
33:17Just have a little quick look.
33:20What do you think of that?
33:22A bit more military, a bit more style, covers your bum.
33:26That's quite nice.
33:28What's wrong with my bum?
33:30If it was up to me, I would keep them uncovered.
33:32But I'm just thinking of your hygiene.
33:34Yes, they're the skinny jeans, the famous skinny jeans.
33:36With the jeans, actually, if you think now you'd be going out to a bar, it's fantastic.
33:40You buy it, we'll get married.
33:42Really? Come on.
33:44He's so lovely.
33:46Mr Tulloch.
33:48Imagine the beautiful, blooming relationship we can have with that name.
33:51What to do, mate?
33:53Go for it.
33:55What else can happen?
33:57It can divorce me.
33:59You'll be young, free and single and come back and buy some more clothes.
34:01You buy it, we'll get married, honestly.
34:03And here we have the skinny jeans.
34:05Nice for a pair of jeans if you're going out in the evening.
34:07Nice for a pair of trousers if you look to your lovely trousers.
34:10Excuse me, can I show you our new range of coats that are out today?
34:13What have you bought?
34:15The brown one.
34:17Oh, sweet. Do you want to have a look at a new jacket?
34:19Nothing against yours, I'm sure it's lovely and nice and warm.
34:21But I've got a much better one in there that I can sell to you right now.
34:24We've got this brand new range that we've launched today.
34:26It's not maternity, but in nine months' time, play cards or it could be.
34:28If you wanted to try them on, what size are you?
34:30Can you feel the leather?
34:32It's not the best.
34:34Oi, I love that one.
34:36Wear over.
34:38We're having this new launch, you see.
34:40I've been in a cop shop today.
34:42Well, I bet you didn't see these jackets.
34:44I think this lady's got a purchase in there.
34:54Shall I pour some water on my feet?
34:58Look at my blisters.
35:00Look at my blisters.
35:02Can you imagine getting into bed tonight?
35:04Do you know what I want to do now?
35:06Put them in the swimming pool.
35:08Yeah, do you want to have a look?
35:10Let's just call it a day.
35:12Is that a date?
35:14I'm going to sleep with my jeans on.
35:16You have to, you can't get them off.
35:24Eight candidates remain.
35:26They've given up highly paid jobs
35:28for a chance to work for Sir Alan.
35:30Now, one of them is about to get fired.
35:54You can go through to the boardroom now.
36:24You can go through to the boardroom now.
36:54So,
36:56Dun,
36:58how do you like being a team leader?
37:00I've got new found respect for the project management role.
37:02It's hard work.
37:04Good team leader?
37:06Don't all rush.
37:10I'll move on
37:12rapidly then, shall I?
37:14Michelle, how did you find it?
37:16Yeah, really enjoyed it, it was good.
37:18Good team leader?
37:20I thought so, very well prepared.
37:22Okay.
37:24Right,
37:26down to the money side of things.
37:28Over to you Nick, will you let me know how Velocity did?
37:30Velocity sales
37:32totaled £2,548.
37:36Margaret?
37:38Invicta sold
37:40£2,668.
37:44Well, well done, your team won.
37:46Quite a few compliments actually
37:48from the Top Shop people
37:50about Sharon, they reckon they would
37:52employ you, so if I fire you
37:54next week you know where to go for your next job.
37:56I've got a very nice treat for you,
37:58you're going off to a famous
38:00country hotel for the night,
38:02so you have a good time,
38:04we'll see you in the boardroom next time round.
38:06You lot, off you go
38:08outside, one of you
38:10will be fired, I'll call you back in.
38:20So fucked up.
38:22Fucking hell.
38:24Three times in a fucking row
38:26I've lost.
38:30I'm more disappointed
38:32in the way that the team's reacted
38:34than I am that we've lost.
38:36I was very surprised at Ansel
38:38and Sam's responses in the boardroom
38:40when they came in,
38:42they were very positive,
38:44they were very positive,
38:46they were very positive,
38:48I was very surprised at Ansel and Sam's responses
38:50in the boardroom when Sarah Allen asked if I was a good project manager
38:52because all the way along the task
38:54I've constantly been saying
38:56are you happy, could I be doing anything better
38:58and each time the response has been you're doing a great job
39:00but now it seems that the guys
39:02strategy is very quickly
39:04to turn on me as the PM.
39:06I mean I think Ruth is pretty disruptive,
39:08she's a big personality,
39:10I don't think she listens
39:12and she's very disruptive in discussions
39:14and has probably confused
39:16Michelle. Without a doubt I'm going into the boardroom
39:18there's no two ways about it, Michelle will
39:20not put Ruth who's a good friend of hers into the
39:22boardroom, so it'll be Samuel and I
39:24and Michelle going into the boardroom, that's a fact.
39:42This is just amazing.
39:44Shoot.
39:46Yay!
39:50Follow up, follow up.
39:54I blew my load pretty early so...
39:56Sorry!
39:58Yay!
40:00Alright.
40:08Alright guys,
40:10a quick toast, I just wanted to say
40:12three wins,
40:14exceptional
40:16from everyone
40:18especially Sharon, I think you were working
40:20it's difficult for you working with three guys
40:22you look absolutely gorgeous
40:24and let's keep on winning.
40:26Cheers guys. Cheers everybody.
40:28Cheers.
40:42Hello?
41:02Hi Jenny, would you
41:04send them in please?
41:06You can go through to the boardroom now.
41:12Cheers.
41:24You looked a bit shocked to me Michelle
41:26that you lost. There was a look of
41:28complacency about you, that you thought
41:30you might have won this thing.
41:32No, I don't think we would have won
41:34by miles. I personally think
41:36we're just unlucky, you know, I think everyone
41:38sold hard, I think
41:40definitely towards the end we had a great process in place
41:42of getting people in, to the floor, to the fitting room,
41:44to the cash desk.
41:46From what I can understand
41:48you dished out kind of
41:50a written kind of job
41:52profile for these people, did you not?
41:54What we did as a team is set up a
41:56role structure which I was very confident in
41:58would work. It's all very well
42:00you know, saying well alright
42:02okay, you'll do this and you'll do that and you'll
42:04do this, but I think a team leader
42:06should constantly be making sure
42:08that they are doing what you want them to do and if not
42:10throughout the course of the day
42:12modifying or prompting them to do
42:14what you want them to do. And I did do that.
42:16I didn't just write something and then go off
42:18and not bother again. You was off downstairs
42:20quite a bit, wasn't you? I certainly was.
42:22Don't you think you should be in it with
42:24your troops? I don't need to micromanage my team
42:26I don't need to stand next to them and watch what they're all doing.
42:28I think those French people, you spent
42:30an hour and twenty minutes with them. I did.
42:32Yeah, and you sold them a thirty quid skirt.
42:34Yeah. Did that ring a bell with you?
42:36What am I doing wasting my time down here?
42:38I should be upstairs. Not at all.
42:40I've got trust in Ruth and Ansel.
42:42The battlefield was the sales floor.
42:44Yeah. Where you could see everything going on
42:46and yet you were miles behind the lines
42:48downstairs in a VIP room. Yeah, for the
42:50morning I was and we quickly recognised
42:52that that probably wasn't going to work. You didn't
42:54quickly recognise. I think that Ansel came and
42:56told you at 2.30 there was a bit of a roll call
42:58on the money and you were 23%
43:00behind, right? Yeah, at which point then
43:02At that point I would have said enough's enough
43:04you know? I'm coming up to the battlefield
43:06I'm going to reorganise the troops.
43:08Now, what do you mean no?
43:10I didn't need to be on the sales floor. These two were doing a great job.
43:12I think you did need to be on the sales floor.
43:14I think that's where your big error is, quite frankly.
43:16If I was given this task, I would want
43:18to be right in the middle of the action
43:20and see what's going on. I could always run
43:22backwards and forwards to the dressing room.
43:24Why didn't you put Ruth in the dressing room?
43:26Because you put your best people where they're going to
43:28work best. These two are good sales people.
43:30Why would I shove the best sales person I've got
43:32in a fitting room? In all fairness
43:34to Michelle, she was making the best of the opportunity
43:36in there. Listen,
43:38there is only one job going here.
43:40One job only.
43:42I'm not happy with all this camaraderie
43:44stuff. So you'd better start thinking about
43:46yourselves. Do you understand
43:48what I'm saying? All this complimentary stuff
43:50between each other is going to get you nowhere
43:52because I'll tell you what, if any of you survive here
43:54I'll promise you this,
43:56as sure as I've got a hole in my bloody arse,
43:58when it gets down to two of you,
44:00all these people that are saying nice things
44:02about you at the moment will not.
44:04So start thinking about yourself.
44:06Ruth, she's telling me that you're
44:08one of the stronger sales people on the floor.
44:10In comes the most important
44:12man of the day,
44:14Mr Green, and for some
44:16reason or other, decided he was going to help you
44:18out. And then when he helps you out,
44:20he says give me £100 of a clobber,
44:22and what do you do? Give him £66 worth.
44:24Sir Alan, if you don't think I've gone through that
44:26every minute of last night... Something should have rung
44:28bells in your head then, my God, I mustn't
44:30mess this up. And this is the time
44:32to be the cheekiest as possible, actually.
44:34I would have brought him over £200
44:36of the stuff myself. I would have said to him
44:38look, well here's the £100 that you wanted,
44:40but by the way, while you're here, as a man
44:42that could obviously afford to, I could recommend
44:44this and recommend that. You were dead
44:46slow there, dead slow there.
44:48You could have won this task maybe, I reckon
44:50if you'd have talked good enough, you could have got £300
44:52out of him.
44:54Who was getting people in?
44:56Samuel? Yeah. I don't think so.
44:58I happened to observe him
45:00not doing much at all, quite frankly.
45:02What was your brief?
45:04Basically, what I wanted to do
45:06initially was just see how we could get customers
45:08in and get them to the sales people.
45:10I noticed that customers... What was this then?
45:12What was this all about?
45:14That was
45:16something that I was using to advertise
45:18the complementary therapy and that sort of stuff.
45:20But you couldn't take this outside the shop and give it
45:22to people? No, I could have.
45:24No, you didn't. No, I didn't.
45:26No, I think
45:28I didn't recognise that,
45:30hold my hands up, so that was an error
45:32on my part, absolutely.
45:36Didn't she tell one of you that she
45:38didn't know what she was doing hanging around? She wasn't too busy.
45:40It's your time to give both Nick and me a hand
45:42massage. Okay, can I
45:44agree that
45:46that was an error on my part, absolutely.
45:48But we chose the strategy...
45:50This is an error on your part, what else?
45:52Anything else? That's the one
45:54that I'm holding my hands up to, definitely.
45:56So were you satisfied with his marketing?
45:58Well, I'm completely confused because...
46:00Were you confused with them? I didn't even know about those
46:02leaflets. But did you ask whether you... You didn't know about those
46:04leaflets? Was that because you were downstairs
46:06and didn't see them? No, not at all. I saw one
46:08on the cash desk. I didn't know that we could have them
46:10printed and hand out or else of course we would have got them
46:12without a doubt. So he didn't tell you about them?
46:14No, I did not know.
46:16Right, we didn't... Having
46:18delegated marketing to him
46:20and coming back to the point that I made to you earlier
46:22on, why weren't you, just throughout
46:24the course of the day, checking
46:26up on what he was doing?
46:28It seemed to me, I'm absolutely
46:30right in my observation, you told him
46:32to do marketing and you let him get on with it.
46:34Now you're finding out what you could have done,
46:36what you couldn't have done. Wrong time!
46:38Sir, can I raise an issue then in that
46:40kind of project? And it was to do with the clothing choice.
46:42When we did the market research
46:44myself and Michelle co-led the market research
46:46so I asked the questions, if you're going to buy one
46:48item, what's the item you're going to buy next week?
46:50They all came back with coat. Military
46:52style. So when we came to the clothing choice and we
46:54looked at all the clothing, Admiralty
46:56was a clear match for that
46:58need. And for some
47:00unknown reason, Gothic became the number
47:02one priority. I don't agree with that.
47:04That's exactly what happened. We had
47:06a vote, what you actually said was...
47:08So I was happy to accept
47:10Admiralty and Gothic.
47:12Project leader, Michelle,
47:14what about this debate? You've been very
47:16quiet on this particular debate.
47:18When we went down into Topshop, the main
47:20sales area, which they told us was the main
47:22sales area, the vast majority
47:24was dedicated to Gothic. The entire
47:26right-hand block was Gothic.
47:28Yeah, but the point is, the shop
47:30was flooded with Gothic.
47:32The customers could buy that already.
47:34The hot one was Admiralty.
47:36Okay, listen.
47:38Michelle, you know what you've got to do now.
47:40You've got to decide upon two
47:42people you bring back in here
47:44who you justifiably think
47:46didn't perform in this task, okay?
47:48All personality issues,
47:50friendships, lovey-dovey
47:52stuff should go to one side, okay?
47:54Who are you bringing back in the boardroom with you?
47:56And based on some of the feedback that you've given me,
47:58I'm going to bring Sam because of the marketing
48:00and Ruth because of what he said about
48:02not giving the £100.
48:04Right, okay.
48:06Ansel, off you go back
48:08to the house. You have a three
48:10and remain outside.
48:14That's a right decision.
48:16That was a right decision.
48:18That was a right decision,
48:20wasn't it?
48:22Good luck, mate.
48:24I'm sorry.
48:26That was a right decision.
48:28Take it easy, yeah?
48:32Good luck, guys.
48:38She's picked Ruth because
48:40she's the one who's been
48:42She's picked Ruth because
48:44of what you said. Apart from that
48:46one thing, Ruth
48:48was fantastic on the day.
48:52I mean, I think she made some bad
48:54mistakes. She's got no business
48:56absenting herself from all the key decisions.
49:00Okay, well,
49:02we'll bring them back in.
49:06Hello? Would you
49:08send them in, please? Thank you, Sam.
49:10See you later.
49:26Michelle, what is Ruth
49:28doing in here? It's very difficult
49:30to pick an error on this task because everybody's
49:32performed really, really well. We
49:34picked up the error about Phil Green. There was
49:36a missed opportunity. Have you made an
49:38assumption of bringing people in this room on the
49:40basis of what you think you've gleaned from me
49:42saying here? Not at all. See, I don't know if you're
49:44trying to make me happy because you heard what I was
49:46saying here, and I've laboured
49:48on this point about Philip Green,
49:50and then you think she should come in here and get done
49:52for that. I think that's a wrong thing to
49:54do. I think that's a wrong thing to do.
49:56So why would I have brought Ansel in? Neither of them
49:58did anything wrong in terms of selling
50:00neither of them. So you think you're going to make me happy
50:02by bringing her in here? No, I have to choose.
50:04Because I've pointed out something wrong. If I could choose,
50:06I would have brought one person in this boardroom full stop.
50:08I have to. Who's that? Samuel.
50:10Why is that? Because I do think that we
50:12missed opportunities in the marketing. I was
50:14not aware that we could have taken more...
50:16Why weren't you aware?
50:18I mean, you're the team leader. That's my whole
50:20point about you, is that, you know,
50:22I get this feeling you sat down with your
50:24computer, wrote out, you know,
50:26three menus for these people,
50:28and said, go on, off you go. That's not true, right.
50:30It is true. It's absolutely true.
50:32What I asked all of them to do was to think
50:34about what the roles could be, what they could entail,
50:36try and expand it a little bit to get everyone
50:38happy with what they were doing. Michelle ultimately
50:40made the decision as to who she believed
50:42would be the salespeople
50:44and allocated me to marketing.
50:46So I took the marketing role, and I accept
50:48the leaflet issue, absolutely.
50:50Okay, I accept responsibility.
50:52So do you accept that you were the one who was the most delinquent
50:54on this team then? No.
50:56Why not? Because I think the critical issue,
50:58as I've said before, was the selection of clothing.
51:00So if you're not, if you don't think
51:02you're the weakest link, who is?
51:04I think it was Michelle. Can I actually comment on that?
51:06And I'm going to say something here, Samuel.
51:08You come across, sometimes you're very aggressive and you get
51:10your point across, you certainly do in the boardroom,
51:12but you had the opportunity in that team
51:14to sway it. Now if I disagree with something
51:16strongly, I will say, we are
51:18making a mistake, and I'll make people hear me.
51:20To be honest, we spent a lot of time bickering
51:22between myself and Ruth. Ruth is a very
51:24strong, obviously, vocal personality,
51:26and I disagreed with her
51:28in that meeting, okay?
51:30Can I just finish, first of all?
51:32We did disagree in that meeting, and
51:34you were being very, I made a note of it, because you were
51:36being very negative in that meeting, so every suggestion
51:38that I was coming up with, you were
51:40saying, no, no, we can't do that, we have to
51:42check this. Shall I tell you something for one, though, Samuel?
51:44Can I just say one thing? It's all about decision making, and you
51:46don't actually make any. Tell me, Ruth,
51:48who's your go-to? I've got to say, if you'd
51:50have been stronger, Samuel, I'd have listened to you in the meeting.
51:52Samuel. Do you think it was
51:54a fault, a flaw, that
51:56Michelle spent so much time
51:58downstairs in the first house? In the morning, yes.
52:00And I would agree with that. I think it was.
52:02Yeah, I do. And it could have been in the straw that broke
52:04the camel's back. No, because we're a team, and the
52:06one thing Michelle did do as project manager was call
52:08up everybody. I think the right decision was
52:10put me and Ansel on the floor. But how many lost
52:12sales were there, because Michelle
52:14was down in the VIP room for half
52:16a day, and sold £130?
52:18I wasn't down for half a day. Pretty much.
52:20Are you still saying Samuel should go,
52:22do you? I mean, this is... If you want me
52:24to be completely honest, I'm tall, and I am,
52:26and I always give direct answers.
52:28There's flaws on this side, and there's flaws on Samuel's
52:30side. If Samuel felt very strong
52:32about the products, he should have swayed
52:34me in that room. Your comeback was
52:36Michelle should be sacked because we got the wrong product range.
52:38I disagree, without question. Michelle.
52:40What? I think you've got a lot to
52:42answer for. You convinced
52:44me why I shouldn't get rid of you today.
52:46Because I think I've delivered, on
52:48this project, I have delivered. Your only
52:50criticism of me is the wrong wage, and I
52:52disagree. The marketing was
52:54diabolical. Hold on. You're ultimately
52:56in charge of it. Yeah. You never
52:58picked up on it, and your own admission, you didn't even know
53:00leaflets were around. You're digging a
53:02hole for yourself, really. No, not at all.
53:04Yeah, you are, you are. You're digging a hole for yourself.
53:06You have to empower people within your team to do
53:08the work. I'm sorry, it's just not acceptable.
53:10If I'm out there doing
53:12something, I want to see what the troops are
53:14doing. I don't think you were there doing enough
53:16for that. In the morning. You only came up
53:18when the bells started ringing.
53:20No, I... Yeah, yeah, you did. You came up at
53:222.30 when the bells started ringing. When I'm in a room
53:24with somebody, and all they do after an hour is
53:26spend a fair bit of time... Yeah, well, I hold you totally responsible
53:28in fact. I have this vision
53:30of you dishing out what your job is
53:32and this, that, and the other, and you get on with it.
53:34Right, back me up. Right, well, back me up, you two.
53:36Did I dictate a role to you?
53:42I hold you responsible
53:44for this. I don't think you managed it very, very
53:46well.
53:48But, Samuel,
53:50I've had enough of your excuses.
53:52You have not convinced me here
53:54at all in any way or form
53:56that you contributed to this. I think you made
53:58a fatal error in the marketing.
54:00You're fired.
54:02OK.
54:10Right, well, there it goes.
54:12No hard feelings, don't worry about it.
54:14No problem at all.
54:18OK.
54:30Definitely I fucked up on the task
54:32and I should have made better use of the masseuse.
54:34I should have been more proactive about that.
54:36I wasn't, and I got burned for it.
54:38So, but, you know,
54:40that was my mistake, and I've paid for it.
54:42I think I was vocal enough
54:44and I expect people around me to be
54:46professional enough to listen to
54:48a sensible argument, and obviously
54:50that wasn't the case. And it kind of seemed to be
54:52he or she, in fact, who shouts loudest
54:54gets heard. So,
54:56maybe I should do more shouting.
55:00One job.
55:02Now just seven candidates
55:04remain.
55:06Sir Alan's search for his apprentice
55:08continues.
