Two business owners pleaded not guilty in the Johor Baru Sessions Court to offering RM4,000 in bribes to city council officers so that action would not be taken against their premises.
Wong Chee Khoi, 56, and Tan Poh Wey, 41, claimed trial after the charges were read to them before Sessions judge Datuk Ahmad Kamal Arifin Ismail on Tuesday (Sept 24).

00:2156-year-old Wong was accused of offering RM1,000
00:25to an enforcement officer from the Iskandar Puteri City Council
00:29for operating a sundry shop without a licence.
00:32The offence was allegedly committed at Jalan Perziaran Technology
00:36on November 2nd at 8.20pm last year.
00:4041-year-old Tan was accused of offering RM3,000 to an enforcement officer
00:45from the same council over an unlicensed mobile phone accessories shop.
00:50This offence allegedly occurred at Jalan Pulai Mutiara at 5pm on January 23rd.
00:57Both accused were charged under Section 17 Subsection B of the MACC Act 2009
01:05and face a fine of at least five times the amount of the bribe or RM10,000,
01:10whichever is higher, upon conviction.
01:13During mitigation, a request for lower bail was made,
01:17noting that Wong, a night market trader, supports two children aged 15 and 21.
01:23Tan, a salesman, also supports two children aged 10 and 12, as well as his elderly parents.
01:30The court set bail at RM4,000 for Wong and RM5,000 for Tan,
01:35with additional conditions that they surrender their passports to the court
01:39and report to the MACC office once a month.
01:42Next mention was fixed on October 21st and 22nd and both accused posted bail.
