A 57-year-old housewife was charged at the Johor Baru Sessions Court for allegedly conspiring to kidnap her own businessman husband for RM20mil.

Chan Wan Kooi, nodded her head after the charges were read to her in Mandarin before Sessions Court Judge Hazeelia Muhammad.

00:11conspiring to kidnap her own businessman husband for 20 million ringgit.
00:16The accused, Chan Wan Kui, nodded her head after the charges were read to her in Mandarin
00:21before Sessions Court Judge Hazilia Mohamed.
00:25However, no plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
00:31The charge sheet states, the accused allegedly conspired with 46-year-old Chong Shih-Ming,
00:37together with Vietnamese nationals Luong Van Tung and Tran Van Chung, in committing the
00:42offence of kidnapping a 59-year-old man at a house near Jalan Straits View on October
00:4713.
00:48She was charged under Section 3, Subsection 1 of the Kidnapping Act, 1961, and Section
00:55109 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison and caning
01:01if convicted.
01:02Earlier, her lawyer Jagjit Singh applied for bail, as he said his client had already been
01:08in remand for a lengthy period.
01:10He added that his client undergoes regular check-ups for her health issues and that she
01:14is also a director of two companies.
01:17Bail was denied and her case has been fixed for mention on November 17.
01:22On Monday, Chong and the two Vietnamese nationals denied kidnapping the 59-year-old victim.
01:28Separately, a 36-year-old Vietnamese Nguyen Ngoc Ngan also denied disposing of a vehicle
01:34used in the alleged kidnapping.
01:37According to previous news reports, the victim was scheduled to go on a business trip when
01:42the incident occurred.
01:43The kidnappers demanded a 30 million ringgit ransom, and after negotiating, it was reduced
01:49to 20 million ringgit.
