Coffee lowers the risk of liver conditions including fatty liver, fibrosis (scar tissue that builds up within the liver) and cirrhosis. Drinking coffee can slow the progression of liver disease in many patients.

The major functions of the liver include:
-Bile production: Bile helps the small intestine break down and absorb fats, cholesterol, and some vitamins. Bile consists of bile salts, cholesterol, bilirubin, electrolytes, and water.
-Absorbing and metabolizing bilirubin: Bilirubin is formed by the breakdown of hemoglobin. The iron released from hemoglobin is stored in the liver or bone marrow and used to make the next generation of blood cells.
-Supporting blood clots: Vitamin K is necessary for the creation of certain coagulants that help clot the blood. Bile is essential for vitamin K absorption and is created in the liver. If the liver does not produce enough bile, clotting factors cannot be produced.
-Fat metabolization: Bile breaks down fats and makes them easier to digest.
-Metabolizing carbohydrates: Carbohydrates are stored in the liver, where they are broken down into glucose and siphoned into the bloodstream to maintain normal glucose levels. They are stored as glycogen and released whenever a quick burst of energy is needed.
-Vitamin and mineral storage: The liver stores vitamins A, D, E, K, and B12. It keeps significant amounts of these vitamins stored. In some cases, several years’ worth of vitamins is held as a backup. The liver stores iron from hemoglobin in the form of ferritin, ready to make new red blood cells. The liver also stores and releases copper.
-Helps metabolize proteins: Bile helps break down proteins for digestion.
-Filters the blood: The liver filters and removes compounds from the body, including hormones, such as estrogen and aldosterone, and compounds from outside the body, including alcohol and other drugs.
-Immunological function: The liver is part of the mononuclear phagocyte system. It contains high numbers of Kupffer cells that are involved in immune activity. These cells destroy any disease-causing agents that might enter the liver through the gut.
-Production of albumin: Albumin is the most common protein in blood serum. It transports fatty acids and steroid hormones to help maintain the correct pressure and prevent the leaking of blood vessels.
-Synthesis of angiotensinogen: This hormone raises blood pressure by narrowing the blood vessels when alerted by production of an enzyme called renin in the kidneys.

00:00There's one very important organ called our liver that plays a significant role when it
00:07comes to detoxifying and cleansing our blood as well as many other important factors.
00:14All the blood leaving the stomach and intestines pass through the liver.
00:17The liver processes this blood and breaks down, balances and creates the nutrients and
00:23also metabolizes drugs into forms that are easier to use for the rest of the body or
00:28that are non-toxic.
00:30The primary function of the liver is bile production and excretion, excretion of bilirubin,
00:35cholesterol, hormones and drugs, metabolism of fats, proteins and carbohydrates, enzyme
00:41activation, storage of glycogen, vitamins and minerals as well as synthesis of plasma
00:47proteins such as albumin and clotting factors.
00:51And because our liver plays a significant role in so many different things, the one
00:57being called coffee has been known to do wonderful things when it comes to healing
01:03our liver.
01:04Yes, there are millions of people worldwide who love coffee and I just want to share with
01:10you through a PubMed study as well as other pertinent information what coffee can do to
01:15help heal, repair and to allow your liver to work at its optimal function.
01:22And researchers have found that coffee drinkers may be less likely to have liver cancer as
01:27well as less likely to have fibrosis, a disease that makes scar tissue from the inside of
01:32your liver, which can be coming from hepatitis or alcohol use disorder, as well as cirrhosis,
01:39which is a late stage of fibrosis and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, which develops when liver
01:45cells store too much fat.
01:47And this is commonly seen with too much excessive refined sugars for the body that will eventually
01:53get converted to fat.
01:55And the powerful antioxidants in coffee are not only good for your liver, but for many
02:00other things within your body as well, as it boosts energy levels, it's linked to lower
02:05type 2 diabetes, it supports brain health, it can promote weight management, it lowers
02:11the risk of depression, it can support heart health, as well as increase longevity.
02:18And all coffees will definitely be very effective for you, but the most effective would be brewed coffee.
02:24Decaf coffee will still give you the same benefits.
02:27So if you are very sensitive to caffeine, you may want to consider decaffeinating.
02:33And in other studies, subjects who consumed three or more cups of coffee per day had significantly
02:38lower plasma level of liver enzymes when compared to those consuming less.
02:44And a great percentage of our population has a very poor diet, filled with excessive amounts
02:50of refined and processed foods, particularly sugars.
02:54These accumulation of sugars are leading to insulin resistance, pre-diabetes, as well
02:58as diabetes.
03:00This extra sugar and fat, the high triglycerides, the high cholesterol, is putting a tremendous
03:05burden on the liver.
03:07That excessive fat is eventually causing that fatty liver.
03:12And now the liver cannot perform and do its job as it's supposed to.
03:16So therefore, it starts to get congested, it starts to back up, and other symptoms start
03:20to occur.
03:22And the studies show that drinking coffee can do wonderful things in helping reverse
03:26this fatty liver.
03:28But again, having a very important diet, exercise, sleep, hydration, keeping stress
03:35down to a minimum, all has a positive effect when it comes to you healing and staying well.
03:42I hope you enjoyed this video.
03:44Please share it with your friends and family.
03:46And most important, make it a great day.
03:49I'm Dr. Alan Mandel.
