00:00Toad's Adventure
00:05Oliver and Toad used to work on the Great Western Railway.
00:10Oliver never tired of telling the story of how they first came to the island of Sodor.
00:17And then there was that night of my daring escape from the scrapyard.
00:22What an adventure that was! Unbelievable!
00:27I know, Mr Oliver, I was there too, remember? And I've heard this story before.
00:33Never before has a Great Western engine had such a narrow escape!
00:38The moon was full that night and the wind was rustling in the trees. I weren't scared, though.
00:44Oliver had told Toad the breakback the same story a hundred times.
00:51Sometimes Toad wished he'd had his own adventure story to tell, so that he didn't have to listen to Oliver's all the time.
01:00Oh, yes! My escape from that scrapyard was probably the greatest escape anyone's ever had!
01:12At the shunting yard, Oliver was uncoupled from Toad and given some coaches instead.
01:18Bye, Toad! See you later! Nice talking to you!
01:23Toad was happy not to listen to Oliver's stories for a while, but he didn't like the idea of sitting around doing nothing.
01:32He wanted an adventure all of his own.
01:36Brake vans! Tch! I don't know why I need a brake van at all! I never have accidents!
01:44Please, Mr. James! Hello! Did you say you needed a brake van, sir? Perhaps I could help?
01:51You? What's so special about you?
01:55Ask anyone, sir! I love helping haul coal wagons and my brakes are strong and... Oh, please, Mr. James!
02:03Oh, all right, all right! Come along, then! I haven't got all day!
02:10So Toad was coupled up to James. He was delighted to be heading off to Vicar's Town.
02:20I don't suppose you see splendid engines like me on your little western line very often?
02:27No, sir.
02:28And did you know I am the brightest red engine on the whole island of Sodor?
02:34Yes, sir. I could see that.
02:36You could travel for miles around and not find a better engine than me!
02:44Do we have to go so fast, Mr. James?
02:48I'm no slow coach! The sooner I get these trucks to Vicar's Town, the sooner I can get back to pulling coaches!
03:03Argh!
03:05Please slow down, sir! This is d-d-d-dangerous! Oliver would never go this fast with a full load!
03:12Nonsense! I know what I'm doing! I go this fast all the time!
03:20As they approached Gordon's Hill, James and Toad were on their way back to Vicar's Town.
03:27I go this fast all the time!
03:32As they approached Gordon's Hill, James pumped his pistons faster than ever!
03:39Toad decided he didn't want an adventure anymore.
03:44Oh dear! Oh dear me!
03:47Ha-ha! You see, Toad? Nothing slows me down!
03:52Ooh!
03:55Oh no!
03:57Oh, Mr. James! What was that?
04:00We've hit a branch!
04:03Stop the trucks!
04:07I'm trying, Mr. James! I'm trying!
04:12Toad!
04:15Thomas was taking the Fat Controller and Dowager Hat to the mainland to go to the opera.
04:21I used to be quite the singer in my day. Would you like to hear me sing?
04:27Oh, well, perhaps later.
04:31Me my moo!
04:33Ahem!
04:35Oh no!
04:40Cinders and Dashies!
04:42Oh no!
04:45Thomas, why have we stopped?
04:48Up ahead, sir. Look!
04:51Thomas, back off! Back off!
04:54Thomas, look out!
04:56Percy!
04:58Oh no! We're going to have a crash!
05:02Oh no!
05:05Toad could see that Thomas and Percy didn't have enough time to reverse and clear the line.
05:10Toad knew he had to save them all now.
05:17He's going to hit us!
05:19Toad had done it. He'd stopped the coal trucks just in time. Everyone was very relieved.
05:39Well done, Toad!
05:41Thank you, Mr Thomas. Just doing my job.
05:50Sorry, Thomas. I lost my trucks on the hill. Is everyone alright?
05:55No, James. Everyone is not alright. You have caused confusion and delay. I demand to know how this happened.
06:05Well, sir, the thing is, I was going too fast.
06:11There was a fallen branch on the line, sir. It was nobody's fault. It was an accident.
06:17Oh, accident, eh? Well, um...
06:21Sounds to me rather like this little brake van saved us all from disaster. Wouldn't you agree?
06:27Uh, yes, I suppose so.
06:31You are a really useful and very brave brake van.
06:36Quite right. Um, well done, Toad. Carry on, carry on. The opera awaits.
06:45Toad was still thinking about what Dowager Hat had said to him. He felt very proud.
06:52You can go a little faster if you like, Mr James.
06:56Oh, no. This will do, thank you, Toad. Never too slow, never too fast. That's what I always say.
07:05Thanks for your help today, Toad.
07:08And thank you very much, sir.
07:10Call me James.
07:15Hello, Mr Oliver. I...
07:17Hello, Toad. You'll never believe what happened to me today. Let me tell you all about it.
07:25Hello, Mr Oliver. I...
07:27Hello, Toad. You'll never believe what happened to me today. Let me tell you all about it.
07:35Actually, Oliver, I think you should ask Toad about the adventure he had today.
07:44You, Toad? You had an adventure?
07:47Well, yes, as it happens. It all started when I was coupled to Mr James.
07:53But he started to go a bit too fast. By the time we reached Gordon's Hill, we were going so fast, my wheels were shaking.
08:02Well, that don't sound like much of an adventure, Toad.
08:05But that's not all. That's when we saw a branch had fallen on the line.
08:10No!
08:11Yes! And the thing was, we were going so fast, we couldn't stop.
08:16So, what happened next?
08:19That's when it got really scary. James couldn't stop.
08:24And so Toad told everyone about his adventure on the main line.
08:30Oliver said he could hardly believe it, but Toad said that was okay.
08:36He'd tell him the whole story again... tomorrow.
