00:00Thomas and the Emergency Cable
00:05Thomas loves to work on his branch line, pulling his faithful coaches Annie and Clarabel.
00:16Both Annie and Clarabel have an emergency cable.
00:20Passengers can use it to sound an alarm and stop the train, but only in an emergency.
00:31One day, Annie and Clarabel were watching the passengers at Knapford Station.
00:37Look at that big hat! It won't fit through my doorway!
00:43Uh-oh! Noisy boys! I hope they won't be bouncing on my seats!
00:49Careful, Thomas! This man needs extra time to get on board.
00:54Look, Clarabel! There he is again!
00:57That man! With his binoculars! Yes, it's him!
01:03Thomas and the Emergency Cable
01:06Thomas loves to work on his branch line, pulling his faithful coaches Annie and Clarabel.
01:13Passengers can use it to sound an alarm and stop the train, but only in an emergency.
01:19One day, Annie and Clarabel were watching the passengers at Knapford Station.
01:24Careful, Thomas! This man needs extra time to get on board.
01:30The man with the binoculars got off again at Dryor Station.
01:36I wonder who he is. He's been travelling up and down the branch line, getting on and off at every station.
01:44Maybe he's a station inspector.
01:46Oh no, I don't think that's right, Thomas. He's always looking through his binoculars.
01:52Up into the trees!
01:54Maybe he's a tree inspector.
01:58Who ever heard of a tree inspector?
02:02You are silly, Thomas!
02:06Yes, very silly indeed!
02:24Later that afternoon, Thomas saw the man with the binoculars again.
02:30Hello. I hope you don't mind me asking, but what kind of an inspector are you?
02:36I'm not any kind of an inspector. I'm a bird watcher and I'm trying to find a very rare bird.
02:43Oh, better get to my seat.
02:47Oh, a bird watcher! Of course!
02:51So that's who he is. And that's what he's looking for through his binoculars.
02:57And all I had to do to find out was ask him.
03:02Oh, you're very clever, Thomas!
03:06Yes, very clever indeed!
03:11Thomas was hurrying along his branch line when suddenly there was cause for alarm.
03:18Somebody had pulled the emergency cable and the guard put the brakes on his coaches.
03:25Oh, what a storm! It must be an emergency!
03:36Everyone wondered what the emergency could be.
03:42I'm sorry. I got a little over excited.
03:45I thought I heard the sound of a very rare bird I'd been looking for and I wanted to see it.
03:51So I pulled the emergency cable. In any case, it's bound to have flown away now.
03:57Seeing a rare bird is not an emergency.
04:02Quite right!
04:03I couldn't have put it better myself.
04:10What's that sound?
04:12What's that sound?
04:14My wheel! It has a flat spot now!
04:18Annie had developed a wheel flat after being dragged along with her brakes on. Her wheel wouldn't turn.
04:27So all the passengers had to squeeze into one coach and Annie had to be uncoupled and left behind.
04:37Don't worry, Annie. Thomas will come back soon.
04:41And we'll have your wheel fixed in no time.
04:46Thomas didn't like having to leave Annie behind.
04:49He felt cross that the man with the binoculars had pulled the emergency cable.
04:55The passengers felt cross too.
04:59And so did the Fat Controller.
05:03The emergency cable must only be pulled when there is a genuine emergency.
05:09I'm really very sorry. I don't know what I was thinking. And I promise, I'll never do it again.
05:15Very well. Carry on!
05:20Thomas came back with Rocky and the flatbed to collect Annie and take her to the steamworks.
05:26Oh my! I'm not sure I like flying about like Harold the Helicopter.
05:33Don't worry, Annie. We'll soon have you back on the rails again.
05:39Thomas took Annie to the steamworks to see Victor.
05:46I'm sorry, Annie. We don't have the right coach wheels in stock. We'll have to wait for more to be delivered.
05:53Oh dear!
05:59Now Thomas had to travel up and down his branch line with only one coach.
06:04I miss Annie.
06:06So do I. And all because of one passenger pulling the emergency cable.
06:12I hope we never see that silly man with the binoculars again.
06:16But Thomas did see the man with the binoculars again.
06:20He was waiting on the platform at Dryor Station.
06:25Well, I'm not going to stop for him.
06:28But you have to stop, Thomas. You always stop at the station.
06:33I don't have to if I don't want to. Why should I?
06:42Oh no!
06:45Thomas!
06:47Someone had pulled the emergency cable again.
06:52But it couldn't have been the man with the binoculars because he was still on the platform.
06:59I say! That was my stop back there. I need to get off the train.
07:05Oh dear! I'm sorry.
07:10Luckily, Clarabelle's wheels were not damaged.
07:14So Thomas backed into the station to let the lady with the very big hat off the train
07:20and let the man with the binoculars get on.
07:35This time the Fat Controller was cross with Thomas.
07:39You must stop at every station, Thomas, and pick up every passenger, whether you're in a bad mood or not.
07:48Yes, sir. I know, sir.
07:51The man with the binoculars may have pulled the emergency cable when he shouldn't have,
07:56but he said he was sorry and I think he learned his lesson.
08:02I'm sorry, sir, and I've learned my lesson too.
08:07At last, Annie got a new wheel and came back to work with Thomas and Clarabelle.
08:14Thanks for getting me a new wheel, Thomas. How did Victor find one so quickly?
08:20I told him it was an emergency.
08:30Very cheeky, Thomas.
08:33Yes, very cheeky indeed.
