00:00We will talk this morning with the Municipal Social Welfare Officer, Emily Tan of La Castellana Negros Occidental.
00:08Good morning, ma'am. This is Audrey Gorizeta. We are live now in Rise and Shine, Philippines with Diane Guerrero.
00:16Sir, good morning. Good morning to everyone.
00:19Ma'am, how is the situation of our countrymen in La Castellana?
00:26Sir, good morning to everyone.
00:28So far, sir, we have here the five evacuation centers that we have opened for the amount of people who were pre-attacked.
00:41Then, in our situation, the weather disturbance of the typhoon.
00:47So, for now, we have a total of 867 families inside the evacuation center and 2,686 individuals.
01:02Okay, ma'am, our countrymen in the evacuation center are quite many. Is the help they are receiving enough?
01:11Yes, sir. So, the SWDFO6 is increasing in terms of food packs, sleeping kits, and hygiene kits.
01:21And we are distributing food packs to our evacuation center.
01:27Okay, how is the MSWDO preparing to meet the needs of the evacuees, especially the residents who are at the foot of Vulcan Canlaon?
01:39That's why, sir, we have pre-emptive evacuations within 4 to 6 kilometers.
01:45That's why we have a lot of our constituents inside our evacuation center to ensure their safety, sir.
01:56So, the local government unit of La Castellana provides each evacuation center a kitchen
02:05to ensure the food they provide.
02:08At the same time, our camp managers manage it.
02:14So, at the same time, sir, the local government ensures through Mayor May
02:19that all those who are there within 4 to 6 kilometers will be able to go down to our evacuation center.
02:26Okay, our countrymen who are at the evacuation center, most of them live at the foot of Mt. Canlaon, right?
02:34For example, they are talking about returning to their home temporarily
02:40to save their belongings and pets. Are they allowed to do so?
02:45As part of our... we have camp rules within our evacuations.
02:55We are securing them. At the same time, their men, during their daytime,
03:01we have a pass to ensure their pets.
03:08But they need to go to the barangay to make sure that they are locked in there.
03:14But we have monitoring that they should return.
03:18Ma'am Emily, good morning. This is Dianne Guerrero.
03:22Now, you've mentioned about ensuring safety.
03:24So, Ma'am Emily, all those who are supposed to evacuate have already been evacuated, ma'am,
03:30because I understand that the possibility of raising the alert level of Mt. Canlaon is still there, ma'am.
03:36Yes, ma'am. We have a total of 1,142 families in 426.
03:51We have 867. So more or less, ma'am, we have 80 percent of our households or families inside the evacuation center.
04:06Okay. When it comes to the health of our evacuees,
04:11how is it that we are not able to monitor our countrymen who have, for instance, respiratory illness?
04:19So far, ma'am, we have not reported.
04:23It's because our RHU, the Rural Health Unit of La Castellana,
04:30is monitoring the evacuation center to ensure the health conditions of our IDPs.
04:39Maybe for the last time, ma'am, please remind your fellow countrymen regarding the situation of Mt. Canlaon.
04:46Yes. To our constituents of La Castellana, the local government unit, ensure your safety.
04:55That's why we have primitive evacuations in three barangays to ensure the safety.
05:01But let's not panic. Our barangay government unit is also there to assist the LGU.
05:11Then, the strong rain and wind, which is the local government, ensure those who are near the creeks that they can coordinate with the barangay
05:30so that we can assist them and help them.
05:35So far, for the local government, all or their needs, the LGU can provide.
05:46Maybe, ma'am, there is a limitation also for the food. It's because we have a lot.
05:55Our IDPs are also helping us so that we can work hand-in-hand in times of disaster, ma'am.
06:06Thank you very much for your time.
06:08We were able to interview this morning Municipal Social Welfare Officer Emily Tanang of La Castellana Negros Occidental.
06:16Thank you and take care.
