00:00Volcanic sulfur dioxide gas emission was even higher
00:04that was caused by the volcano Canlaon.
00:06Aside from the magmatic eruption,
00:08FIVOX was also affected by the possible lahar flow
00:12in the face of the incoming of a new typhoon in the country.
00:15Ryan Lesigues has the details.
00:20The chances of a magmatic eruption are really increasing.
00:24The volcanic canlaon's degassing or sulfur dioxide gas emission is continuous.
00:29In this video taken by FIVOX,
00:31we can see the white smoke coming out of the volcano.
00:34This is an indication that the chances of a magmatic eruption are still high
00:38or of a dangerous eruption.
00:40In the latest data of FIVOX,
00:43the volcanic sulfur dioxide gas emission from the mouth of the volcano is even higher.
00:47This is a new record of the highest volcanic sulfur dioxide gas emission
00:51recorded by the volcano
00:53which reached more than 11,000 tons per day
00:57compared to the magmatic eruption of Canlaon.
00:59This is far from 300 tons per day
01:02if the volcano is at the unrest level.
01:05Our challenge in Canlaon
01:08is that we don't have a blueprint
01:10of a past magmatic eruption.
01:12We don't know how a magmatic eruption in Canlaon will progress
01:19because we haven't experienced it yet.
01:22It's not like now that we have a lot of experience.
01:28Since more than 300 volcanic earthquakes were recorded,
01:32this has increased to 73 in the past magmatic eruption.
01:35But this is not an indication that the volcanic eruption is going down.
01:40Our baseline in Canlaon
01:42when it's in a quiet sense
01:47is only 0 to 5.
01:51And then when it's at a moderate level of unrest,
01:55it's around 20 to 30.
02:00So, it's a low number.
02:01But now, we're counting around 100.
02:04Feebox warned the public
02:06that those who live near Canlaon Volcano
02:08as far as possible,
02:10should limit their outdoor activities.
02:12This is because of the spread of volcanic fog
02:14due to the continuous eruption of Canlaon Volcano.
02:17Feebox said that
02:19if they can't avoid going out,
02:21they should use N95 face masks
02:24or drink a lot of water
02:25to reduce throat irritation or constriction.
02:29For now, there are areas affected by sulfuric fumes.
02:33These include Barangay San Miguel, La Carlota City,
02:36Barangay Masulog,
02:37Barangay Pula, Canlaon City,
02:39Barangay Kudkud, San Carlos City,
02:41and Barangay Inulingan, Moises, Padilla.
02:44Feebox particularly warned
02:46individuals with health conditions
02:48such as asthma, lung disease,
02:50old people, pregnant women, and children.
02:53The prolonged exposure to volcanic smog
02:55can cause irritation to the eyes
02:57and respiratory tract.
02:59Aside from the possible magmatic eruption,
03:01Feebox also warned
03:03that the new typhoon
03:05may bring heavy rains.
03:08Feebox warns that it's more dangerous
03:11if the typhoon, rain,
03:13and eruption of the volcano come at the same time.
03:15These are called sin eruption lahars.
03:18They are more damaging
03:20than normal lahars
03:22because it's hot.
03:24It's hot.
03:26The more erosive it is,
03:28the more it erodes.
03:32So when it erodes,
03:34the lahar grows bigger.
03:36And it's hot.
03:40The skin may peel off.
03:42The volcano is still
