00:00Some netizens witnessed another bizarre event where an asteroid entered and melted right here in the Philippine airspace.
00:09Here is the report.
00:14Once-in-a-lifetime experience.
00:16This was witnessed by many of our fellow Filipinos in Northern Luzon.
00:20Despite the rain and stormy weather, the rare celestial event was not an obstacle to see it.
00:26This is the first time an asteroid entered the world and melted right here in the Philippines.
00:31It was first recorded by the European Space Agency that a 1-meter-tall asteroid
00:35could have fallen near Luzon.
00:37According to the ESA, there was no danger from it and a fireball could be seen from here.
00:43The so-called asteroid was discovered by the sky a few hours before it entered the world.
00:48And this is what people witnessed in Northern Luzon.
00:52To those who were waiting, you can see that the sky suddenly lit up when the asteroid passed by.
00:57It was named 2024 RW1.
01:00It passed by quickly but it definitely shined with its brightness.
01:05Here in the Philippines, our country is very lucky.
01:09Because in the northern tip, especially in Cagayan province,
01:14that's where the asteroid entered the atmosphere.
01:19The characteristic of a fireball is similar to what we call meteors,
01:25which is what we call in Tagalog, bulalakaw.
01:28It hit the sky.
01:30What this means is that normally, when it enters our atmosphere, it disintegrates.
01:36According to Raymundo, this happens because of its contact with the atmosphere of the world.
01:40He also explained that this is called a meteor when it hits the ground.
01:44But because of the location, I do not believe that there are any fragments left.
01:50If there are any fragments left, it is likely that it fell into the sea.
01:54And if not, maybe there is nothing left up there.
01:58This is because it is only one meter in size.
02:00It is composed of iron and nickel.
02:04This is the rare chance in human history that it was discovered and waited for before it entered the world.
02:11That's why the people who saw this are very lucky because this rarely happens.
02:15Rod Laguzad for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
