In the late 1990s, 17-year-old Cheng Miao Miao and her younger brother, 16-year-old Cheng Ya Ya, were born into a proud family of oilfield workers—three generations deep—at the No. 1 Oil Production Plant of Linqi Oilfield. Their father, Cheng Peng Fei, an otolaryngologist, and their mother, Jia Dai Yu, a logistics coordinator, uprooted the family from the rugged northwest to a tranquil seaside town, Heping, in hopes of a brighter future.
With an adventurous spirit and a longing to explore the world beyond, Miao Miao ropes in her childhood friend, Li Si, and best friend, Hu Qiu Min, to embark on an ambitious summer adventure—heading to Hong Kong to witness its return to China. But their daring plan fizzles out, leaving behind a taste of bittersweet failure. Meanwhile, her curious brother, Cheng Ya Ya, gets swept up in an archaeological quest in the mountains, only to be mistaken for a tomb robber, plunging him into a local mystery.
As high school life unfolds, Miao Miao finds herself entangled in a friendship crisis with Li Si, while Cheng Ya Ya encounters Yuan Shan Qing, a newly transferred student whose dark past as the daughter of a wanted criminal makes her the target of widespread suspicion. Undeterred by the gossip and hostility, Ya Ya boldly steps forward to defend her, sparking an unexpected bond.
