00:00We got to recreate what we did on our second date.
00:03You tried to throw me in the water.
00:04I did not!
00:06Veronica and I decided to take our relationship public.
00:09Just kidding.
00:11Last time you weren't kidding.
00:12You chucked me in and I was like, who is this guy?
00:14I didn't chuck you in.
00:15You did.
00:16Are you in love?
00:17I think we're in real love.
00:19It's not all bliss, but we love each other.
00:23I have one song right now.
00:25It's called Devil in a Suit and Tie.
00:26OK.
00:27I have the whole music video planned out.
00:29The part I need your help with is choreographing the dance.
00:32Oh, fun.
00:33I've almost finished my album.
00:35We're going to be shooting a music video soon.
00:38And I want as many of my family members
00:41that want to participate, I want them to participate.
00:44So we're going to start with female anatomy.
00:46This is my vulva puppet.
00:47OK.
00:49We are setting up for a little sex education adult night.
00:53As I've continued to see this guy on the East Coast,
00:57seeing how comfortable he is with his sexuality,
01:01that's when I started to realize how many hang-ups I had.
01:04We are very physically compatible,
01:06and I want to explore that a little bit.
01:09Tell me where the vagina is located on the vulva.
01:12In between here.
01:13Where?
01:14You want to open it up?
01:15Oh, my god.
01:15It opened.
01:16Oh, my god.
01:40I did the dishes yesterday.
01:42I don't know how they just magically appear all the time.
01:45Adulting sucks, mom.
01:47Yeah.
01:49I rented a house for a week because my family
01:52is coming to Tampa to make a special music video
01:57for Devil in a Suit and Tie.
02:01How will having your family here help you?
02:04No, I don't think it will.
02:07I'm kidding.
02:10My family brings the lighthearted aspect
02:12into my music career.
02:14Whereas if it's just me, it's all sad and depressing.
02:19We could just load the dishwasher.
02:22I always forget about the dishwasher.
02:24I don't know why.
02:26Because you didn't grow up with one.
02:28We had a lot of dishwashers.
02:30We had Ethan, Micah, Mariah.
02:34None of them wanted to work.
02:37Right now, it's just me and Mariah and Isaac.
02:40And tonight, Barry and Ethan are coming.
02:42And then tomorrow, Amber and Lydia are coming,
02:45and also Micah and his girlfriend.
02:48Cassie and Marcy stayed at a friend's this weekend.
02:51We're filming in a bar.
02:52So it felt like it'd be best if Cassie and Marcy stayed home.
02:57I'm glad I got a place with three bedrooms.
02:58I wish I had a few more mattresses.
03:00Let's see.
03:01Dad, Ethan, Micah, and Isaac.
03:05I'm thinking they can be on the bed that Isaac's in right now
03:10and the sleeper sofa, right?
03:13Yeah, but I want them to have comfy spots.
03:15Like, I'll take the floor if I have to.
03:18Dang it.
03:20This is the first time my whole family
03:22will be sleeping in the same house
03:26since we lived on the farm.
03:28I don't want to force anyone to be anywhere
03:30that they don't want to be.
03:31But, like, I just love my family,
03:33and I love it when we're all together.
03:34So yeah, we shall see how this goes.
03:39I mean, there's plenty of space.
03:41We just, if we have to run and get an air mattress,
03:43we could do that, maybe.
03:45Yeah, we'll be fine.
03:47Oh, wait.
03:49I'm able to tolerate, you know, being around Barry.
03:52I mean, I'm not getting warm fuzzies,
03:55you know, at the thought of being under the same roof
03:57with him or anything.
03:59But, you know, it's OK.
04:01We don't hate each other yet.
04:04Do you think me, you, Lydia, and Amber could sleep in this bed?
04:08Be tight.
04:11I told Ken we would all be there,
04:14and that Barry and I would have separate rooms, of course.
04:17So there was never a moment when Ken interpreted it as,
04:22I'm going to stay the night with my ex.
04:25I know he would love to be here.
04:27But I think if we did, at this point,
04:29it might end up being a bar brawl between Ken and Barry.
04:33I don't know.
04:34So I guess it's just as well that Ken
04:36stayed home this weekend.
04:38Well, I should eat something before Dad and Ethan get here
04:41and just get ready for everything.
04:43Yeah.
04:53We need to pack the air mattress for Tampa.
04:54We can't forget that.
04:56Yeah.
04:59What, do I feel like we always forget air mattresses?
05:02We or you?
05:04I think I got it from my dad.
05:05He always would forget air mattresses.
05:07I think because he would never sleep on them.
05:09You know, he always got the good bed.
05:10He always gets a couch.
05:12Now he does.
05:12When we were younger, he always, when he and my mom
05:16were together, they got the bed.
05:18I'm excited Veronica gets to come along to Tampa with me.
05:21I feel like it's opening the door to her being a bigger
05:24part of everything I do.
05:26Have you talked to Maria lately?
05:28Yeah, I talked to her earlier this morning and last night.
05:32I was trying to figure out what to pack
05:33and what we're going to do.
05:34So just like one or two outfits and then
05:38comfy clothes for the drive.
05:40I have met the whole Plath family.
05:41I love them all dearly.
05:44I consider them my extended family at this point.
05:46They're lovely human beings, each and every one of them.
05:50I would just pack extra stuff.
05:52Air mattress, sheets, pillows, and then
05:55just like an extra outfit.
05:56We're only going to be there for like two days.
05:58It's great being in a relationship with someone
06:01who values family herself.
06:03Watching Ethan and Olivia and Olivia
06:05didn't get along with my family, I am not envious of that.
06:09I don't want that.
06:11One of the important things is how someone gets along
06:14with their current family.
06:16And Veronica is a huge family person.
06:20She would give anything in the world for her family.
06:23So that was a big, big check on my checklist.
06:29Did you pick up whatever to work today?
06:32Yeah, as long as you give me options.
06:35All my clothes.
06:37Get creative.
06:39So Micah told me about his upbringing.
06:41At first, I didn't believe him.
06:42What didn't you believe?
06:43What part?
06:44So I didn't believe no sugar.
06:47Now that I know Micah, I 100% believe that.
06:50I laughed that he was born at home.
06:51I thought it was a joke.
06:53I still make fun of him that he's only seven years old
06:55because he got his birth certificate seven years ago.
06:58When he first said that he walked around barefoot,
07:01I didn't believe it until I went to the farm.
07:02They run around like sticks and everything barefoot.
07:06They're definitely, I call it, they're built differently.
07:09You look really good in this dress.
07:10That's my favorite dress.
07:11I haven't ever used your color.
07:13Okay, so wear that?
07:14Yeah, I'd wear that one.
07:15Did I do good?
07:17You did great.
07:18The way you hung it or laid it down is sort of interesting,
07:20but one day at a time.
07:24So, you know, the craziest thing is
07:26is where your Spartan medal is.
07:27That's where we used to hang clothes.
07:29Spartan medal looks better, doesn't it?
07:31It looks lovely.
07:37That's your outfit of the day?
07:39Yeah, and you could have this.
07:40Oh, I could wear this to work.
07:44I'll wear yours, you wear that one.
07:48I think I'll stick to my necklaces.
07:50I think going to Tampa with a family,
07:52it's definitely a little intimidating.
07:53It's not my usual day to day.
07:57So that's a little bit nerve wracking
07:59and it's crucial to me to get along with the family.
08:03You would not like to wear this
08:04if you knew how dirty it actually was.
08:05Oh, thank you.
08:06Is this what I need?
08:07Ow!
08:08I didn't do that, you did that.
08:09Oh, I did that.
08:10It's in your hand and I did that.
08:11You flung your hair.
08:12I was going for that.
08:13I did not fling my hair.
08:14You grabbed my hair with it.
08:15Oh.
08:28All right.
08:30Are you guys here for speed dating?
08:32Yeah!
08:33Okay, come on in.
08:36This evening, Lydia, Grace and I
08:38are going to go speed dating.
08:41I'm not quite sure why I chose to participate in this.
08:46Honestly, it was 100% Lydia's idea.
08:50But I'm trying to just live in the moment,
08:52not overthink it.
08:53All right, so welcome to speed dating
08:55with the next fun thing.
08:56I'm super excited you guys are here.
08:57So what we're going to do is we have a few stations set up.
09:00You'll notice that each station has its own number on it.
09:04I'll have the ladies find a station
09:06and then I'm gonna have the guys find a station as well.
09:09I know that she's dating somebody now
09:11that she's serious about,
09:12but I feel like there's so much that life has to offer
09:14and dating is just a small part of it.
09:15But like, there's a lot to experience when you're single
09:18and not attached to somebody,
09:19especially because we're so young,
09:20which is why I did this.
09:21So when you say yes to those,
09:22you're also saying yes to experiences,
09:24but it won't be long-term, you know?
09:25Yeah.
09:26So we're going to do five minute rounds.
09:29At the end of the round, I'm going to ring my cowbell
09:31to kind of signal that it's time to move on.
09:33The ladies are going to stay
09:35and the guys are just gonna move from station to station.
09:39I feel like I just want more bookmarks in my book, you know?
09:41Like there's like a whole book that's left to be read
09:43and I'd rather put bookmarks in it
09:45so I can go back and reference that later if I need to,
09:47or just to like know that that was a good chapter.
09:49Bookmarks?
09:50Yeah, so I might call that body count, but okay.
09:55Tip for tip, you know?
09:57All right, so ladies, let me have you find your station.
10:00Once you guys are all seated,
10:01I'll have the fellows join you.
10:03I'm not going into this looking for matches
10:05just because as I've continued to see this guy
10:09on the East Coast, Brendan,
10:14all right.
10:15You can't say that nice.
10:18I hear you laughing.
10:20Hold on, okay.
10:24I think one, I love the conversations we have
10:29just about like how we want to change the world
10:31and how we want to make the world better
10:33and like the things we've experienced in our life
10:36and what we learned from that.
10:37There's a lot of life experience between the two of us
10:40living very different lives
10:41that I just love the conversations.
10:44And then we have so much fun together when we're together.
10:46But at the same time, I also just want to be realistic.
10:49I'm not putting all my eggs in one basket
10:51and these guys at Speed Dating,
10:53like they could blow me away.
10:54They could wow me.
10:55One of them could impress me if they really tried
10:57and wanted to, I guess.
11:00All right, round one is gonna start right now.
11:03So go ahead and get started.
11:05Use your prompts, have fun.
11:07I'll let you know when the time is up.
11:09If we're hiding, why am I like standing out
11:11in the middle of the living room?
11:12Hey, tonight Barry and Ethan are coming.
11:15Barry and I don't see each other very often in person.
11:18And now we're here staying the night together.
11:20You know, I don't think either one of us
11:22feels really chummy towards the other right now.
11:25Hi.
11:25Hi, I'm Connor.
11:26I'm Olivia.
11:27Olivia, nice to meet you.
11:28Nice to meet you too.
11:29I just like authentic connections up front.
11:32It's not there, it's not there.
11:33What made you want to leave North Dakota?
11:35No, I want to leave North Dakota.
11:37What made you want to leave North Dakota?
11:38No, I want to hear what you think.
11:40There's nothing going on.
11:41There's nothing going on, that's right.
11:42When you don't have a lot to do,
11:44you have to make up games in your head.
11:44And you gotta be more creative.
11:46Yeah.
11:47I think Jeffrey Dahmer, you know.
12:01What, do we need to hide better?
12:02Are we hiding?
12:03I'm not really technically hiding.
12:05I'm just sitting here.
12:07If we're hiding, why am I like standing out
12:09in the middle of the living room?
12:10Hide.
12:12Right now, it's just me and Mariah and Isaac.
12:15And tonight, Barry and Ethan are coming.
12:17Barry and I don't see each other very often in person.
12:20And now we're here staying the night together.
12:23Not, not together, but under one roof together.
12:28We'll probably just kind of avoid each other.
12:31You know, I don't think either one of us
12:33feels really chummy towards the other right now.
12:37Hello, hello.
12:38Anybody here?
12:40Here.
12:41We're all here.
12:42Wow.
12:43I was the very first to see you again.
12:45I was trying to hide.
12:46You can't hide.
12:47Okay, I'll come down.
12:49I already asked dad and mom how they felt
12:52about like just staying in one Airbnb.
12:54And they were both cool with it.
12:56It's great.
12:56Yeah, yeah.
12:57You've been here for how long?
12:58A couple of days.
12:59A couple of days?
13:00Yeah.
13:01You're all settled in?
13:02Yeah.
13:03If fights break out,
13:06I'll just sit back and enjoy the show.
13:08You want to give them the tour?
13:10Give us the tour.
13:11Oh yeah, okay.
13:12Give us the tour.
13:13I like the pool table.
13:13That's the upstairs.
13:14I like the pool table.
13:15That's the pool table.
13:16There's a deck out there.
13:17And then.
13:18There's no issue with Kim and I bumping heads, you know?
13:21I mean, in our default mode, you know,
13:23we're both conflict resistant, right?
13:25It's not like she's out seeking it and I'm out seeking it.
13:28No, we just want to be at peace.
13:30And dad can have that room.
13:34You can stay with me.
13:37Isaac and Ethan can have that room.
13:38Is that good?
13:40I'm going to have to move a lot of my stuff out.
13:44I've been settled in my room
13:46for a couple of nights now already.
13:47I have all my things unpacked
13:49and Mariah offers my room to Barry.
13:54Okay.
13:56No, I mean, you can stay there.
13:58I mean, I could just be.
13:59No, you can have a whole room.
14:02Mom and I can share a room.
14:03It's a king-sized bed.
14:04It's a king-sized bed and you can have a bed.
14:09Or you, Ethan, and Isaac can all sleep in there.
14:12You want that?
14:13Yeah, like the three stooges, right?
14:14Yeah.
14:16Mariah talking about, yeah, well, maybe I give you a bed.
14:20I'm like, I'll take a bed.
14:21But you know, you read the situation,
14:23you're like, nah, nah.
14:25My destiny is probably the futon couch.
14:30The morning we shoot our music video,
14:33Ethan, if you have any comical ideas, let me know.
14:36Ethan, comical?
14:37Yeah, I know.
14:38I know, I was pushing it.
14:39He's the wrong person for that job.
14:40I was pushing it.
14:42I think it's impressive
14:42that my parents can be in the same house together,
14:44given everything that's happened.
14:46Because if it was me and Olivia,
14:48that would be problematic.
14:50From where I stand right now,
14:51I don't understand how my dad is doing it.
14:53So we're just gonna shoot it backwards.
14:55Oh, well, we're not shooting it backwards.
14:56We're shooting it in order.
14:58But the sunrise is gonna be the sunset.
15:00So it'll look like dusk anyway, which is good.
15:04At some point, I need to talk with my mom,
15:06but there's a lot going on on this trip.
15:08And Mariah's, it's kind of about Mariah.
15:10She's got all her music and stuff.
15:12And I have no ill feelings towards my mom.
15:16That was all stuff that you and I
15:19stuff that was a factor in mine and Olivia's relationship.
15:23And that's gone now.
15:24So yeah, I don't know.
15:26I don't know what my,
15:27the mending process of my relationship
15:29with my mom looks like.
15:31That's another conversation for another time.
15:34So yeah, I recorded pretty much the whole album
15:37in a few days.
15:38Devil in a Suit and Tie is number six on the album.
15:42Nope.
15:43I lied.
15:44I lied.
15:45It's number five.
15:47I let my mind wander and it never came back.
15:50If I'm in an awkward situation, I talk.
15:55If I sit here and say nothing, everybody's going home.
16:00Nothing's happening this weekend
16:02because it's just going to get so unbearably awkward.
16:04Everybody's just going to walk out.
16:06You know the look Ethan gets.
16:08He's just like,
16:13he just stares at people and makes them uncomfortable.
16:17And then my mom, she does the same thing.
16:20She stands and stares.
16:21My dad, he does the same thing.
16:25So it's left up to me to like, make some like commotion.
16:31We haven't eaten.
16:32You want to eat something?
16:33I don't think we have food here.
16:35There's food here too.
16:36You want to go look at what's in the kitchen?
16:38Okay.
16:39Yeah.
16:40Yeah.
16:41Sounds good.
16:41My stomach's growling.
16:42You have any coffee?
16:43Yes, we have coffee.
16:44Do you have any kombucha?
16:46No, we don't have kombucha.
16:49No kombucha.
16:52Thank you all for coming.
16:53Yeah.
16:59All right, round one is going to start right now.
17:02So go ahead and get started.
17:03Use your prompts, have fun.
17:06I'll let you know when the time is up.
17:08Very first, I guess I should ask what your name is.
17:10My name's Christian.
17:11Christian.
17:12What's your name?
17:13Olivia.
17:14What was your name?
17:15My name's Lydia.
17:16I'm Will.
17:17What do you like to do for fun?
17:20I love to go hiking, especially living here.
17:22There's so much beautiful hiking,
17:23like up in the mountains up north and it's so close.
17:26I do love hiking.
17:27I just love a good view.
17:28I love a good sunset.
17:30If you had one night with me, what would you want to do?
17:34Anywhere in the world, any situation,
17:37unlimited amount of fun.
17:38It has to involve like some level of educational stuff,
17:42like a museum.
17:43Museum's boring.
17:44No, they're not.
17:46Oh my God.
17:47I'm not exactly going into this looking for matches.
17:49And so to me, this is just a fun experience with my sister,
17:53a good exercise for me
17:55and seeing a little bit more of what's out there.
17:58I don't like to read every plaque.
18:00I'm like a grazer.
18:01I just walk around and look.
18:03Or like reading books or whatever.
18:06But if anything I'm realizing,
18:08I don't know how to flirt very well.
18:12But I have learned that the best thing to do
18:14is just lean into like how I am,
18:16which is kind of weird and a little dorky
18:18and a little awkward.
18:21Hi.
18:21Hello, hello.
18:22How's it going?
18:23Good.
18:24What is your name?
18:25Louis.
18:26Louis?
18:27L-O-U-I-E.
18:28What is your name?
18:29Olivia.
18:30Olivia.
18:31O-L-I-V-I-A?
18:32Yes.
18:34I just like authentic connections up front.
18:37It's not there, it's not there.
18:38If you don't like a dork, move on.
18:41Would you ever go to like an adult spelling bee?
18:43No.
18:44I'd be horrible at it.
18:45I would love that.
18:46You like to spell?
18:47Yes.
18:48Okay.
18:49Yes.
18:50He looked at me like I had five heads.
18:54Why not?
18:54That's a fun time.
18:55What's the one meal that you think
18:57that you feel confident about cooking for?
18:59I mean, I can make a good breakfast.
19:00I can make a good like egg scramble.
19:02You know, like with some vegetables and-
19:03Vegetables, okay.
19:04Four eggs.
19:05And I make sure you got the pasture-raised eggs.
19:06Four eggs?
19:07That's so specific.
19:08Is that too many?
19:10No, it's just funny.
19:10That's very specific.
19:11I would have been like,
19:12if it's scrambled eggs, I'm going to do like 12.
19:1412?
19:15A lot.
19:16Two big mouths for both of us.
19:18That's a lot.
19:19Yeah, do you eat a lot?
19:20Okay, that's cool.
19:20I respect that.
19:21I was like, I gotta retain this muscle, bro.
19:26I don't think he's been speed dating before.
19:29Hi.
19:30Hi, I'm Connor.
19:31I'm Olivia.
19:31Olivia, nice to meet you.
19:32Nice to meet you.
19:33Are you from here?
19:34No, I'm from North Dakota.
19:35From North Dakota?
19:36That's right, Fargo.
19:38You're the first person I've met from North Dakota.
19:40Yeah, I'll probably be the last honestly.
19:42Dead or alive, someone that you would like
19:45to have dinner with?
19:47George Washington.
19:48Okay.
19:49Because I feel like there was-
19:49With his teeth and everything to make sure
19:51if his teeth were made out of wood?
19:52No, that's the least of my concerns.
19:55What made you want to leave North Dakota?
19:56I feel like I know, but I'm just going to ask.
19:58No, I want to hear what you think.
20:00There's nothing going on.
20:01There's nothing going on, that's right.
20:02I think it makes people more interesting
20:04when you don't have a lot to do.
20:05You have to make up games in your head.
20:07You gotta be more creative.
20:08Yeah.
20:09Like Jeffrey Dahmer, you know.
20:13All right.
20:15So that was the end of the last round.
20:17I hope you guys had a good time.
20:18What I need before you head out
20:20is for you to hand me your sheets.
20:22Make sure you mark who you want to meet again.
20:24So if both of you said yes to each other,
20:26we're going to send you a text message.
20:28Are there any questions before you head out?
20:31No?
20:32Okay.
20:33I hope you had fun.
20:34Yay, thank you.
20:36You just got your matches.
20:38How did you do?
20:39I apparently got three matches.
20:42I got zero, but that's on me
20:45because I didn't write yes on anyone.
20:47How come?
20:48I didn't write yes on any of them
20:49because I came for the experience of meeting people.
20:53I think I did this more to challenge myself
20:56than to get a match or something.
21:03I didn't think that I was going to come to this event
21:06and walk away with a date.
21:09So does Brendan look better or worse after this experience?
21:14Brendan looks way better after this experience.
21:16I mean, he was looking really good before,
21:19but way better now.
21:26Good morning.
21:27Good morning.
21:28You got it cooking.
21:29Yeah.
21:30I couldn't wait.
21:31I had to go get my sausage, egg, and cheese.
21:35But this smells great.
21:39Generally, Kim's always positive.
21:41Maybe this morning, you know,
21:43she got up on the wrong side of the bed.
22:10We're in Tampa at the rental that Mariah got
22:14for the whole family to help her make her music video.
22:17We're all super excited about it.
22:19Mariah had a room.
22:21I had a room.
22:22Ethan and Isaac shared a bed in the other room.
22:25And then Barry took the sleeper sofa in the living room.
22:29It's been a while since Barry and I slept
22:30under the same roof, but you know,
22:32that's what walls are for.
22:35Good morning.
22:36Good morning.
22:37You got it cooking.
22:38Yeah.
22:39Looks great.
22:43I couldn't wait.
22:45I had to go get my sausage, egg, and cheese
22:49when I went on my walk.
22:50It was just the thing,
22:52because the kombucha bar was open.
22:57And I couldn't resist the call of the kombucha.
23:04But this smells great.
23:09Generally, Kim's always positive.
23:10Maybe this morning, you know,
23:12she got up on the wrong side of the bed.
23:15Yeah, it's looking great.
23:20I mean, I'm up early making breakfast,
23:24and Barry comes in, and he just starts talking and talking.
23:28And I'm not really interested in hearing
23:31all the reasons why he's not having breakfast.
23:34If you're not having breakfast,
23:35then I guess I'm not going to talk to you.
23:37If you're not having breakfast,
23:37then I guess I'm not cooking for you.
23:38I'm cooking for the people that haven't had breakfast yet.
23:42I think I'm actually just going to see
23:44what's going on with Isaac and Ethan.
23:47Okay, I think they're still sleeping.
23:49That's my guess.
23:50Oh, I could have fun with this.
23:54Maybe I should go have some fun.
23:58It is an adjustment going from being husband and wife
24:02to being friends, and I don't feel like we're there yet.
24:05I feel like we won't get there
24:07until the divorce is finalized
24:09and we've had some cooling off time.
24:12I feel like right now there's some hard feelings
24:14and there's some hard conversations
24:16that still have to happen.
24:17And when we're not going to do that,
24:19well, we're here to support Mariah.
24:24Hey, Mom.
24:28Hey, Mom.
24:29Yeah.
24:31Okay, come here.
24:36Hey, what's up?
24:38I'll shut the door.
24:40Oh, I don't like this little door.
24:43Okay.
24:47You know, I just, I don't know.
24:50I'm just like,
24:54like there's nothing I can do about it,
24:56but I just have to figure out what to do about my hair.
25:01I just have to figure out what to do about my hair.
25:07Oh.
25:17I left Tampa the last day of September
25:19and I was grieving loss and heartbreak
25:24and my hair started falling out.
25:28I would brush my hair and it was just like,
25:33for people who don't know what alopecia is,
25:35it's an autoimmune condition that causes hair loss.
25:39These last several months,
25:41I've definitely lost about half my hair.
25:46I want to just like shave it all off.
25:48I know.
25:49Oh.
25:54When I was a child, I lost all my hair.
25:59I was like three or four when it started falling out
26:02and it didn't come back till I was eight.
26:05These last several months,
26:07I have noticed for myself at least,
26:10heartbreak triggers my alopecia.
26:14I think that it's an outward reflection
26:17of what's going on inside.
26:19It's so weird though, like my first breakup,
26:23I lost a little bit, like there was like one or two spots.
26:27Well, this one was a lot harder for a lot of reasons.
26:31Yeah.
26:32A lot more stressful, just, you know.
26:35But yeah, I mean, there's one spot that's filled in.
26:41Oh good, so it's filled in completely
26:44but there's still one here, one here, one back here.
26:50And then like here.
26:52Yeah.
26:53And a few smaller spots too, but.
26:55Yeah.
26:59When your hair fell out when you were little,
27:04I researched everything I could find
27:07and tried everything we could think of.
27:12And you know, nobody knows what causes alopecia,
27:17you know, but in the meantime,
27:21whether it comes in or not, you're so beautiful.
27:27And I'm so proud of you, even just for being brave enough
27:34to share that with people, you know,
27:37and get out there and make a music video.
27:40Yeah.
27:47You're so strong and I'm so proud of you.
27:55That's all I needed to hear.
28:05I love you, Mom.
28:06I love you too.
28:10It breaks my heart that she's going through that again.
28:18Making the video, I'm hoping that that will just help her
28:21to kind of get closure and move forward
28:24and that that will kind of relax something in her body
28:28that helps her hair start growing again.
28:31My job is to listen and love on her
28:34and support her any way I can.
28:36And that's what I'm gonna do.
28:37Well, the next guy that you date
28:39is getting a full background check.
28:43So you don't have to worry about that again.
28:46Yeah, good idea.
28:47Even though I don't feel completely healed,
28:51I cannot imagine where I would be
28:54if I hadn't written these songs and written this album.
28:57I could see a million therapists
28:59and maybe they'd help some,
29:01but I'd still go home and write a song
29:04about my therapy session.
29:05I've put up with it this far.
29:07Keep going and make the music video.
29:11Yeah.
29:16I can't be sad anymore.
29:17I've got things to do.
29:19These songs are birthed out of the pain
29:21she went through with that guy.
29:24I've kind of have a feeling that's why I never met him.
29:27He was probably scared of me.
29:29He had me believing everything.
29:32He was a great guy.
29:33I have never met a master deceiver like that before.
29:37I mean, talk about scum of the earth.
30:04Yeah.
30:06I love how you overlap your vocals.
30:09Overlap the vocals, yeah.
30:11Today, I'm taking some of my family to the studio
30:13to listen to my album for the first time.
30:16Micah and Veronica drove up here from South Florida.
30:20My mom and Isaac, they're staying back
30:22waiting for Lydia and Amber to arrive.
30:24A lot of the songs, we still have to tweak
30:26and do harmonies and maybe recut some vocals,
30:28but you have the skeleton, the meat of them.
30:31I poured my heart and soul into this album.
30:35This next song, September, I really like this song.
30:38Like, I like this song a lot.
30:40You guys ready?
30:50I was in a relationship, and the song
30:53that'll say the most about what happened,
30:56I guess, is September.
30:58I spent the whole year waiting for you,
31:01staring at my door.
31:06I was constantly left hanging, waiting
31:09for a lot of promises that weren't kept or broken.
31:13I couldn't handle another day of waiting for somebody
31:16that I knew would never show up.
31:18I'm glad it's not September anymore.
31:25This album is a letter to him.
31:29I need him to hear these songs so that he finally
31:32knows what I was going through, what I was feeling.
31:48What do you guys think?
31:49I love it.
31:49Yeah.
31:50That's beautiful.
31:52And so Cliff, you know that these songs are
31:54birthed out of the pain she went through with that guy.
31:58Oh, my gosh.
31:59I know all about it.
32:00You know all about it, right?
32:01Yeah, all about it.
32:02And the dad in me is like, I'm going to find this guy.
32:04Wait till I see him.
32:07I kind of have a feeling that's why I never met him.
32:09He was probably scared of me.
32:11Well, there's a reason he never wanted
32:12to meet any of my brothers.
32:14When you go through things and things happen,
32:16you think you're the only person in the world
32:18that's going through it.
32:19Like, that's just how people are.
32:20Continue.
32:21I'll be back.
32:22When they start to talk about my story,
32:24I wanted to just get away for a little bit.
32:27I'll be right back.
32:30You know, she's still walking out of the trauma
32:34of this relationship.
32:35Yeah.
32:36So back in September was a whirlwind of kind of emotions
32:41and stuff with Mariah in her life,
32:42and many things being exposed and coming to light
32:46that just allowed her to reach a bottom point, a breaking
32:50point with that relationship.
32:54From what Mariah told me, it's like he would come and go.
32:59There was times where he was outside of her apartment
33:01and was like, oh, you didn't answer your phone quick enough,
33:04so I left.
33:05I don't really think he was there.
33:06I think he was just doing that to make her feel bad.
33:08Yeah, mind games.
33:09And it was sad, because one day she got all dressed up
33:12to go somewhere, and he would cancel randomly.
33:14I don't think he ever had the intent of going.
33:16We were telling her, like, no, that's not OK.
33:21He wanted her to be private about it,
33:23and I think it was so nobody could put their two cents in.
33:26As she got more tired with the relationship,
33:31she shared bits and pieces of it.
33:33We had messages back and forth.
33:35We would talk, and just like, hey, I see this.
33:37I don't know how you feel.
33:38And I was like, hey, that's not good.
33:41You should be cherished.
33:42He would lead her on to the point where, oh, he's
33:46going to do better, he promises.
33:47And she believed it.
33:48And I was like, if he wanted to, he would.
33:50Ethan, you had moved out of Tampa by then, right?
33:53So you weren't around.
33:54She was by herself in Tampa.
33:56Mariah told me that she had been in a relationship with him
34:00since I got back from Europe that year,
34:02and that's why she had moved out and wasn't talking with me.
34:06I found out that he was the one in Mariah's ear,
34:10pretty much keeping her from some of the family,
34:15but also that was why me and Mariah
34:18didn't really have much relationship for a little bit,
34:20because he was telling her not to.
34:23And at the very end, she found out
34:25that he actually had another girl that
34:28was either his girlfriend or his wife or whatever,
34:31but that he had a kid with this other woman.
34:36This guy was with another woman that he
34:39had a child with at the time, and that's probably why he
34:43couldn't make his dates with Mariah.
34:45I just met him once.
34:47I have never met a master deceiver like that before.
34:50I talked with him for like three hours, and I was impressed.
34:55I was like, wow, this guy's great.
34:57And then I never met him again.
34:59He had me believing everything.
35:03He was a great guy.
35:05You know, I can't even fully understand what he was up to.
35:08I mean, talk about scum of the earth.
35:11I mean, I'm only human, right?
35:14There's the guttural response of like, I want to wring his neck
35:18and then do things like that.
35:21But then you're like, OK, OK, just calm down.
35:23Yeah, it's bad, but the good thing is she's out of there.
35:30The whole relationship was kind of up and down,
35:33so I went home to my family.
35:39Hey, Mariah.
35:39Hi.
35:41I just needed somebody to talk to,
35:43and once I explained everything to them, they did some digging,
35:47and they found some stuff, and they said, leave.
35:50Just no answers needed, no questions asked, just leave.
35:55So, yeah.
36:03You were just talking about everything.
36:08Having to get some things out.
36:09Yeah.
36:10I know you've gone through a lot lately.
36:14You know what?
36:15It's a lot of pain, but then you're just like, oh, well.
36:19Like, I have no choice but to keep going.
36:22Looking back, if I could change anything,
36:24I would have at least gone to him with the questions I had and asked.
36:31But at the time, I was so hurt.
36:35I wrote this album in hopes of answering some of the questions
36:39that I'm trying to come to terms with having no answers to.
36:42You get to the other side, you start to see the light at the end of the tunnel,
36:45and you're like, oh, it does get better.
36:59I haven't sung in six years.
37:02This is going to be interesting.
37:05Ethan has an amazing voice and so much talent.
37:08I wanted him to be the guest artist on this song.
37:11My heart's guarded, yeah, the fences are up.
37:14I threw away the key and the door is shut.
37:29Come on in.
37:30All right, Sam.
37:31All righty.
37:33Mariah asked me to sing a song with her today
37:35that she wrote for one of her albums.
37:38So talk to me.
37:39What are we doing here?
37:40So I think Cliff sent you the song, Guarded?
37:43Yes.
37:43That's the one.
37:43He's going to sing the second verse, and we're going to kind of do a collab.
37:47This song is talking about my heart's guarded, the fences are up,
37:50nobody's getting it.
37:51Like, nope, never mind.
37:53I'm good.
37:55I think he and I can both really relate.
37:57So I wanted him to be the guest artist on this song.
38:00I haven't sung in six years.
38:03Six years.
38:06That's since the family band.
38:08Don't expect a lot.
38:10No, I expect a lot from you.
38:12You're going to do great.
38:14Music stopped when me and Olivia got married.
38:16She kind of, unfortunately, mocked the singing that my family did
38:21and told me I didn't have a good voice.
38:24And I didn't really sing after that.
38:28Ah, ooh, ooh.
38:30Dang, I can even hear myself breathe.
38:34Oh, this is going to be interesting.
38:39Oh, man.
38:40I remember this.
38:42This is definitely the nicest recording studio I've ever been in.
38:45The first recording studio that we ever played in
38:49was this little shack in the back of this guy's pole barn in South Georgia,
38:56middle of nowhere.
38:58It was just a brick building.
39:00He had a little room.
39:01He had all old equipment.
39:03And that's where we started.
39:05And there's like something kind of fun about it, you know?
39:08All right, you ready to go?
39:09Yep.
39:10Ah, I can't believe this is happening.
39:13Let's do it.
39:18Deep breath.
39:19Ooh.
39:22The first time your heart breaks is always the hardest.
39:27You feel like you're dying.
39:29And it gets a little easier.
39:32That's what they all say, but I think they're lying.
39:36The more time goes by, and given the situation of the divorce,
39:41you know, the children, I know within their hearts, long for the simple.
39:44Back when life was simple.
39:46Because it all flows back to that time when we had a family band.
39:50Maybe that's the problem, my heart's gone numb.
39:54We can't even do it, we found the right one.
39:57I won't be broken again.
40:00There's something about singing that gets pain out of you
40:03that you can't really, I can't express any other way.
40:06Of course I'm lonely, that's the price that I pay.
40:09For letting someone in with no intention to stay.
40:13My heart's gone and yeah, the fences are up.
40:16I threw away the key and the door is shut.
40:20I think that was it.
40:22That actually was really good.
40:24It was good.
40:25Yeah, that was it.
40:26I think that was the take.
40:27Good job, Ethan.
40:29Oh, this makes me so happy.
40:32OK.
40:33When you're going through something tough,
40:35it's easy to lose your passion or your spark.
40:39But you can also use that as fuel on your fire.
40:43Ethan has an amazing voice and so much talent
40:46and I'm just like, don't ever give that up,
40:49don't ever give that up.
40:50So hopefully he'll see that and be like, OK, I can do it too.
40:54You've gotten back in the water again
40:56after not swimming for a while.
40:58Yeah, the pain you feel from heartbreak,
41:00some of that can only be conveyed in music.
41:03Maybe Class Family Band version 2.0 in the future?
41:08Yeah, I mean as a possibility, I definitely
41:10me performing with Mariah or any of my siblings
41:13that would want to.
41:14I think getting the band back together could be
41:16something that happens soon.
41:19Sweet, I'm excited.
41:20But singing does something to you, you know?
41:23Oh, it definitely lifts your spirits.
41:24It's like, oh, I can't be sad and sing this song,
41:27or dang it, I can't be happy and sing this song.
41:30One of the two.
41:34Should we start with the tablecloth?
41:36Let's decorate the cake first.
41:41Micah said his mom was very, like, her way or the highway.
41:45If they come home, we could have an eater or the cake.
41:49If we run out.
41:50Yeah, I want the cake done done before they get here.
41:52She wanted to do the cake first.
41:54So that's what we're going to do.
41:56I'm just here for the ride.
42:01Today is the big day.
42:02I still don't know how everything's going to work out
42:05with this music video.
42:06Whatever happens, happens.
42:07It is what it is.
42:08Do the best you can.
42:10That's all.
42:11Honestly, what time is it?
42:13And I'm wondering where everybody is.
42:16It's almost 630.
42:20I am in Sedona this weekend.
42:22I've got, like, a fun little holiday rental.
42:24And I brought a guest.
42:25We started off just talking to each other.
42:28I was keeping my options open.
42:30But back in my head, like, I was like, there's this guy.
