00:00So, since the jinn were before us, and since they inhabited the earth before us, it brings
00:10about a question.
00:11Did they have messengers and prophets amongst them?
00:14Did they have people that were sent to them from amongst them that called them to Allah
00:18subhanahu wa ta'ala?
00:19Now recognize, Allah tells us in the Qur'an, and this is established,
00:26That we never punish a people until we send a messenger to them.
00:29So that's whether they're human beings or whether they're jinn, we will not punish a
00:32people until we send a messenger to them.
00:35From consensus, our messengers as human beings were also their messengers.
00:39Okay, so the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam is a messenger not just to mankind, he's a
00:43messenger to the jinn.
00:45And Musa alayhi wa sallam, clearly in the verses in Surat al-Ahqaf and Surat al-Jinn,
00:48Musa alayhi wa sallam was also a messenger to the jinn as well as human beings.
00:52And so all of the prophets and all of the messengers from human beings were also messengers
00:57to the jinn.
00:58And also the Prophet salallahu alayhi wa sallam is definitely the best of the messengers and
01:01he's the last of the messengers.
01:03So even if there were to be jinn messengers, none of them would be after the Prophet salallahu
01:07alayhi wa sallam.
01:08So that's something that's established.
01:09This is consensus.
01:10Now the discussion and the technicalities, are there jinn prophets or messengers that
01:16were sent before Adam alayhi wa sallam was created or even afterwards so that they could
01:20properly learn their religion and so on and so forth.
01:23The argument on one side, which is no, is that Allah subh'anaHu wa ta-a'la says,
01:31So when Allah subh'anaHu wa ta-a'la says, إِلَّا رِجَالًۭ We have not sent before you except
01:36for men that we give revelation to من أهل القرآن, from the people of a town, then
01:41that is a proof for some to say that every prophet, every messenger that was sent in
01:46the past was a man, a human being.
01:48Now the response to that is
01:53Allah subh'anaHu wa ta-a'la says in Surat al-Jinn that there are men from amongst human
01:57beings from amongst mankind that seek refuge in men from amongst the jinn.
02:03So Allah has established that from a linguistic perspective there are رِجَالٌ مِنَ
02:07الْجِنِّ as well, there are men amongst jinn as well.
02:10Also the next ayah that makes this discussion fruitful is when Allah says
02:19O assembly of jinn and man, hasn't there come to you messengers from amongst yourselves?
02:25Now linguistically speaking
02:29when Allah says jinn and human beings, then He says haven't there been messengers amongst
02:34you linguistically speaking, that means من أحد الجنسين, which means that it could
02:37be from either species.
02:39So if Allah just sent messengers from amongst man, it still suffices in this ayah.
02:45Then you have another discussion, another ayah which is added where Allah SWT says
02:55That we have sent Nuh and Ibrahim and we made from their offspring prophets and books.
03:02So obviously the jinn are not from the offspring of Nuh or Ibrahim, and Nuh is the first messenger
03:08amongst mankind.
03:09So then again it makes this discussion, sometimes it leans towards one opinion which is that
03:14no they can't have messengers, then on the other side they have evidence as well.
03:19The point is that there is really no concrete opinion here as to whether they had Rusul
03:24in the true sense of the word, messengers and prophets or not.
03:27I mean this discussion is covered in detail by Imam Ibn Kathir rahimahullah mentioning
03:31opinions here and opinions there, and they all pretty much quote the evidences that I've
03:35already mentioned here.
03:36However, it is established that Allah has sent messengers in the sense of النذر,
03:42that were sent to warn and to teach, that did not necessarily have to be prophets of
03:47God or messengers of God.
03:49That's something that's well established and that's something that Allah mentions for example
03:52in Surah Yasin, a group of messengers, the Rusul in Surah Yasin that Allah is talking
03:57about are not Rusul, they are not messengers in the sense of theologically being messengers
04:02of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala, rather they were warners and callers to their people and
04:07Allah has definitely sent a نذر amongst them, He sent warners and callers and messengers
04:12in that sense and He continues to do so amongst them because again it is the justice of Allah
04:17subhanahu wa ta'ala that He would not punish any group of people until a messenger reached
04:21them whether they were human beings or even if they were jinns.
