Calling Nicknames - Nouman Ali Khan
Transcript
00:00Don't call each other with nicknames. Don't throw nicknames at each other.
00:21Hey fatty, how's it going? Yo, wide face or whatever you come up with.
00:26No, no, he doesn't mind, bro. We're good. No, he don't mind at all.
00:31We're good, right? And the guy will say, yeah, yeah, yeah, sure, no problem, we're good.
00:35But he's not good.
00:37A bunch of girls are hanging out together, hey, you're so short. So cute.
00:42Well, she didn't appreciate that you called her short.
00:45Even if you added it's so cute at the end.
00:48And even though she may not say anything now, and your friend may not say anything now,
00:52there is a day when they're going to be desperate for good deeds on judgment day.
00:56And if you have crimes against them, they can take your good deeds.
00:59They can take them. They may not collect now, they'll collect on judgment day.
01:02Watch it. This is especially among friends.
01:05Don't call each other nicknames. Don't call them nicknames.
01:09Even nicknames that are not mean. If they don't like a nickname, don't do it.
01:14You know, I travel a lot, and I went to this one place
01:19where a person doesn't have a lot of respect for, I guess, personal space.
01:23The guy doesn't know me at all. Actually, he doesn't know me at all.
01:27Hey, Nomi, how are you? I was like, excuse me?
01:31Oh, Nomi, it's okay. I can call you Nomi, right?
01:33I was like, no, actually, you can't. My mother calls me Norman, so I prefer you call me Norman.
01:39If anybody could call me anything they want, it would be my mom and dad, and you can't.
01:44I didn't say, no, it's okay, bro. I don't like it.
01:48And if I don't like it, I better tell him now, because I'd rather not tell him on judgment day.
01:53Fix it now. If somebody's doing that to you, fix it now.
01:57If you're doing it to someone, fix it now.
02:03And here's the conclusion.
02:09How terrible, how terrible is a ู„ุณู’ู…
02:14a corrupt word, the corrupt word,
ูŽุงู†ู, after you have iman.
02:19What does a ู„ุณู’ู…
02:20A single word that can be offensive to someone is a horrible thing for anyone who has iman.
02:28In other words, filthy language out of your mouth and faith inside your heart cannot coexist.
02:33You cannot have iman in your heart, which has been beautified,
02:39and ugly words come out of your mouth.
02:41If you have no control over whatever four-letter words you keep using every time you get frustrated,
02:46there's a spiritual problem, it's not just a habit problem.
02:49It is a spiritual problem.
02:51The other side of that equation from the same ayah is actually,
02:55how can you use a terrible word for anyone who has iman?
02:59Anybody who has iman, you cannot use terrible words for them anymore,
03:03you can't use bad words for them anymore.
03:05Corrupt words are no longer allowed for another Muslim.
03:09It's just not allowed.
03:15People who don't want to give it up, people who don't want to repent,
03:17and those are the wrongdoers.
03:46This is not a small matter.
03:48It is not a small matter.
03:50And the way that it's been, it's a continuum,
03:52this is a, you know, where it's...
03:59Then Allah talks about the most terrible thing,
04:01what if, what if it happens that Muslims are fighting and killing each other?
04:04How should we make peace between them?
04:06That was the second subject of the surah.
