00:26This is what President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. promised in his speech at the 2024 Philippine Strategic Trade Management Summit today.
00:36According to President Marcos Jr., this is a historic moment for the Philippines
00:41because this is the first time that the country has become the host country of the Trade Management Summit.
00:47The United States Ambassador to the Philippines, Her Excellency Mary Kay Carlson, and other officials from the U.S. government also attended the summit.
00:56This demonstrates our faith in the power of collaboration to improve and secure our global supply chains
01:04as well as to open our doors for trade to flourish, for wealth to grow, and for people to prosper.
01:11In the next three years, Southeast Asia will lead the global discussions on export control of strategic goods,
01:19such as those used in the production of arms.
01:22According to the President, this is the way forward to strengthen the ties of the countries in ASEAN
01:28and partners from all over the world.
01:31The Executive Board also emphasized the importance of technology in trade management.
01:37The world is growing more complex with emerging technologies, both in civilian and military fields, posing challenges in trade management.
01:47The rapid pace of advancement demands us to be more agile, more responsible,
01:52and it requires us to address both the speed and dual-use nature of these new technologies.
01:59This is also what will help to improve and secure Southeast Asia's entire region.
02:04The government first launched the Strategic Investment Plan to strengthen the position of the Philippines in the global market.
02:13In addition, the government also formed a police force to strengthen the STMA and implement programs
02:21to effectively comply with the regulations, not just the border control officers, but also the stakeholders.
02:28The government also conducted a post-authorization audit, compliance check, and compliance consultation
02:34through monitoring and inspection activities.
02:38Let this occasion be a reminder to renew important conversations
02:43and to reinforce our commitment to creating what we refer to as Bagong Pilipinas,
02:49that is not only safe and secure, but filled with promising opportunities for all.
