00:00All right, passing yards for Goff, 4,050 and a half, over or under?
00:10I would take the over.
00:11He threw for 4,575 yards last year, and I really think they have more to gain passing-wise
00:19if they want to really unlock it, and even if it's the same, it's 500 yards more than
00:24what that total is.
00:25I like the over.
00:26I like the over as well.
00:28This seems like a low number.
00:30I mean, I wonder, what are they figuring into this that he won't throw for as much?
00:35Are they thinking that they're going to run the ball a little bit more?
00:39Are they thinking that he's going to sit out a game or two?
00:43Injury plays a factor.
00:44The defenses are just going to catch up to Ben Johnson, the Lions.
00:49That's how it works out too, Doug.
00:50We know Vegas is not dumb, but I like the over here as well.
00:53Yeah, you know, the only thing that scares me is like, it seems like a no-brainer.
00:58It scares me when Vegas is involved, but I'm taking the over here.
01:02We all take the over on that.
01:04Goff touchdown pass is 26-and-a-half.
01:06He had 30 last year, but you get 17 games.
01:13I take the over.
01:14I don't know how many more he's going to get than if he gets 30 or not, but a guy can do
01:19better than 26-and-a-half.
01:20More than 27 or more.
01:21I mean, same.
01:22I'm a little bit curious.
01:25I think the offense has a chance to be better.
01:28The only thing I can think of is that they think Jameer Gibbs and David Montgomery are
01:32going to run the ball a lot.
01:34Or they don't expect Goff to stay healthy enough, but I mean, in his career, he's, with
01:39the Lions, he went from 19 touchdowns to 29 to 30.
01:44I got the over.
01:45Kang?
01:46Yeah, I got the over again.
01:47You know, I just expect the offense to be just as explosive, if not more, this year
01:51than last year with the experience that Gibbs is going to get out of the backfield as far
01:55as swing passes, screen passes, and then Jameel taking the top off the defense over
02:01the top.
02:03Let's go to receiving yards here.
02:06St. Brown, 1,275-and-a-half, LaPorta, 850-and-a-half, Gibbs, 350-and-a-half.
02:15I'm going to go, just to do this quickly, over on St. Brown, under on LaPorta, over
02:20on Gibbs.
02:21And I think LaPorta's going to have a hard time matching what he did a year ago.
02:24I would agree with you on that analysis.
02:26I think LaPorta's going to have a hard time topping what he did last year, and the number
02:30you have is actually slightly less than what he did last year.
02:33St. Brown had 1,500 yards of receiving and talking 1,200, and Gibbs only had 316 last
02:39year.
02:40I think Gibbs has more to give.
02:41I think St. Brown can do more than 1,200, and I agree with you on LaPorta maybe not
02:45doing as much.
02:46Kang?
02:47I've got under, over, over.
02:49Under on St. Brown because the other two guys are going to be over, and it's got to come
02:53from somewhere.
02:54LaPorta had a great year last year, and if he does it every year, that's Hall of Fame-worthy.
02:59But I think he does take an extra leap this year, and maybe hits close to 1,000.
03:05Rushing yards.
03:06Gibbs, 850.5.
03:07Montgomery, 800.5.
03:08Well, those are both well below last year's totals.
03:13Gibbs had 945 last year.
03:15Montgomery was 1015 last year.
03:19I like the over Gibbs total.
03:21What was the Montgomery total?
03:22800.5.
03:24Yeah, I like them both over.
03:26I don't know if they're going to have the same year as they had last year, but they
03:31should do better than what these numbers are.
03:32These numbers feel really low, and I'm wondering if in Vegas, every fan base is compelled to
03:39bet they're over on their guys.
03:41But this feels like-
03:42Are they listening to that executive that The Athletic interviewed?
03:45Oh, the ninth best team in the NFC?
03:48Yeah, and everybody's going to figure them out.
03:50I got over and over.
03:52I've got over and under.
03:54I think Gibbs is just going to take a more prominent role in the backfield this year,
03:57and that's not a knock on Montgomery, but I think he's used more to- he'll start the
04:00game, kind of soften up the defense, but then his role becomes short yardage, and maybe
04:06run the clock if the lines are up.
04:08But otherwise, I think Gibbs becomes more of the feature back and gets more carries.
04:11So I like Gibbs over, Montgomery under.
04:14Really is, because Ken doesn't want to say it, but don't forget that the truth is on
04:18this team.
04:19Truth takes some carries away from Montgomery.
04:22Sacks, Aidan Hutchinson, 11 and a half.
04:25He had, what is it, 11 and a half?
04:29That's what he had last year.
04:30I'm-
04:31He had 11?
04:32Yeah, 11 and a half.
04:33Sacks last year.
04:34Is he exactly 11 and a half?
04:35Yes.
04:36Okay.
04:37I'm bullish on him.
04:38I think he's going to have a breakout year.
04:39One of my bold-ass predictions was he would have 15 sacks, so I'm going to stand by it.
04:42Yeah, I got the over on that as well.
04:44Yeah, I'm buying the Aaron Glenn type, or hype, sorry, on Hutch.
04:48I think he turns into that T.J. Watt slash Max Crosby slash Miles Garrett type, hey,
04:54he's going to get easily 12, 13 sacks expected every year.
04:58Okay.
04:59Terrion Arnold, two and a half interceptions, over or under?
05:04I think he's going to get the opportunity to have a bunch of interceptions.
05:07They're going to throw a lot at him early and test him.
05:11Three interceptions on a season isn't that much.
05:18I will tell you right now, I'm going under, and it's because it's so hard to play that
05:21position as a rookie.
05:22It is.
05:24I'm going to go over, because I think he can get three.
05:27Okay.
05:28Kang?
05:29I'm going to go under.
05:30I mean, yeah, that's not a big number, but it's also harder to get interceptions than
05:35I think people realize.
05:36I think the interceptions will come from Kirby Joseph and Brian Branch, and a linebacker
05:41here and there, but I got the under for Arnold.
05:43Jerry Jacobs had three last year.
05:45Season starts on Sunday.
05:46Gator, you ready to pick some games?
05:48Yes.
05:49Here we go.
05:52All right, last week, Gator, very solid two and one to start.
05:59You got your lock in a week.
06:00I went one and two, and I missed my lock.
06:03It is week two.
06:05Are you ready, my friend?
06:06I am.
06:07Why don't you go first?
06:08All right, Doug.
06:09We'll start with college football.
06:10I'm going to begin in the sec with Auburn coming off a monster performance last week
06:16where they threw up over 70 points on the board.
06:18They threw up all over the field to the tune of like 73 or whatever it was.
06:23They're giving up 12 and a half points against Cal.
06:25Auburn's playing at home against a, you know, a Cal team that doesn't even know where they
06:29belong.
06:30I like Auburn giving up the 12 and a half.
06:32I'm going to start with Clemson coming off their week one loss.
06:36They're playing host to app state laying 17.
06:39I will take the fighting Davos to cover the 17.
06:43Okay, I'm sorry.
06:46I was, uh, I realized that I didn't put the team that they're playing against on this
06:50one.
06:51I just took Alabama minus 30 and a half and I'm for the life of me forgetting who they're
06:55playing.
06:56Um, I feel like I should know this.
06:59This is classic.
07:00Gator.
07:01Yeah.
07:02Well, uh, take Alabama, lay the points against everybody and they're playing South Florida
07:05and it happens.
07:06Shoot the boot, shoot the boot, lock the week.
07:09You have no idea who they're playing.
07:10It's Alabama wise.
07:1130 and a half.
07:12They got this.
07:13Make it the red solo cup guarantee while you're at it, stop it.
07:18There's a shoot the boot.
07:19Alabama versus Alabama.
07:20But it's the point where they play it.
07:23Don't know.
07:24Lock it up.
07:25South Florida.
07:26Uh, I got Iowa, Iowa state in Iowa city, Iowa is laying three and that is my car car house
07:35lock of the week.
07:36Iowa covers the three against Iowa state at home.
07:38The new offensive juggernaut that is the Iowa Hawkeyes.
07:41Look out.
07:42I like the game Saturday night.
07:43I said this earlier in the week when we had the college football questions, Boise state
07:47getting 21 and a half points at Oregon.
07:50I'm not going to be surprised if Boise state wins this game.
07:52I'm not sold on what Oregon is just yet.
07:54And then Boise has just been a consistent team forever.
07:57I like Boise getting 21 and a half.
07:59I looked at that very pick and had we had four picks instead of three at the collegiate
08:04level, I would have taken it.
08:05I like it a lot.
08:06Gator.
08:07My final one is tonight by the lake.
08:09Duke is going to Northwestern getting two and a half.
08:11I like Duke's quarterback a lot.
08:12I think they win this game.
08:14I will take Duke plus the two and a half.
08:16Are you ready to move to the NFL?
08:18Let's do it, Doug.
08:19You're up my friend.
08:20It's a battle of Florida.
08:21This one taking place in Miami.
08:23The dolphins giving up three and a half points at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
08:27Yeah.
08:28I don't like Jacksonville all that much.
08:30I do like Miami and I think Miami gets off to a big start and they can cover the three
08:34and a half.
08:35I got the Giants at home are getting a point against Minnesota.
08:40I think Minnesota's got a strong goal.
08:42I'll take the Giants plus the one Buffalo is at home as well.
08:46They're taking on the Arizona Cardinals and when you got to travel that far, it doesn't
08:50really bode well.
08:51Buffalo giving up just six and a half in this one.
08:54That's a that's less than a touchdown, Doug.
08:57Less than a touchdown.
08:58Less than a touchdown.
08:59An extra point.
09:00Yeah, exactly.
09:01So I like Buffalo giving up those points.
09:02I think it's going to take a while before Arizona convinces people that are better than
09:05what they were.
09:06Tonight.
09:07Philly's a one point favorite against green Bay.
09:09I like the Eagles in this one to take care of the pack.
09:14That makes me nervous when you say that I will go instead to a game taking place in
09:18the Midwest.
09:19Kang's Indianapolis Colts are hosting the Houston Texans.
09:23The Texans are giving up three in this one.
09:25They are favored on the road.
09:28Houston's my pick from the AFC to get to the super bowl.
09:30I think it starts with a win at Indy.
09:32They'll cover the three points.
09:34My final pick.
09:35This is my second choice for a lock.
09:38I love this one.
09:39San Francisco on Monday night is playing the Jets.
09:42San Francisco's favored by four and a half.
09:45I think it's going to be a struggle for the Jets this year.
09:47I'll take San Francisco minus the four and a half.
09:49All right.
09:50There you go.
09:51Those are our picks.
09:52Enjoy.
09:53Can you get to love one up and hate on one?
09:55Which one do you like the most?
09:57Yeah.
09:58Did you send me your pics, Doug?
09:59I did not.
10:00Let's go with Gators then.
10:01Gator, I love the fact that you just took Alabama not knowing who they played minus
10:0530 and a half.
10:06I'm looking at your pics right now.
10:07You don't have an opponent.
10:08Fantastic.
10:09I'll stick with that as well.
10:10I don't need to know who they're playing either.
10:12So since I have to pick someone that I don't like from your pics, you know I'm going with
10:15the home dog in Indy.
10:17Come on, man.
10:18The Colts are going to upset the Stroud and the Texans, but that doesn't mean the Texans
10:22are bad, but this week one, you never know what to expect.
10:24You don't know.
10:25Richardson has a couple of rushing touchdowns.
10:26There it is.
10:27Home dog.
10:28Those are our picks.
10:29I know that you will.
10:30Hey, it's Doug here.
10:31And as a Michigan guy, I know how tough our roads can be.
10:33So do you.
10:34The roads are going to get worse too in the coming months.
10:37If you've been in an accident, you need someone who's got your back.
10:39You wouldn't go to a doctor who specialized in all sorts of medicine.
10:42So why would you do that with your lawyer?
10:45Specialization matters.
10:46And that's where our friend Steve and his team at Michigan Auto Law come in.
10:49One of my friends and family needs help.
10:51I'm connecting them with Steve and his team at Michigan Auto Law.
10:54They specialize in auto and truck accidents.
10:57That's what you want from your attorney, right?
10:59They care more, so you win more.
11:01Visit autolaw.com.
11:03Auto accident attorneys, visit autolaw.com.
11:05That's autolaw.com.
14:59Doug Carr, Scott Anderson, 97.1 The Ticket.
15:09OK, so we do this every year on the Friday before the Detroit Lions opener.
15:16We predict what we think is going to happen on the season.
15:18And yesterday we did our season picks, which included our Super Bowl picks.
15:23There was a little bit of bleed over this year because unfortunately, well, very fortunately,
15:27I should say, the segment today is kind of blown if you listen to yesterday's show, because
15:31you all know we picked the Lions to win the Super Bowl.
15:34All three of us picked the Lions to win the Super Bowl.
15:37And I actually think this is the year it happens.
15:40I think they break through this season, which is still hard to get over that they put themselves
15:44in this position.
15:45But we had our picks in yesterday.
15:48So just to reiterate, I like them at 12 and 5.
15:53And I think they play an extremely tough schedule.
15:56And I'm not surprised.
15:58I guess I would be surprised if they won more than 12.
16:01But I can't believe that they brought back almost the exact same offense, except they
16:07should be better on the offensive line.
16:09Zeitler is considered a better guard than Jonah Jackson was.
16:13They upgraded the offensive line.
16:15I buy the JMO hype.
16:17And so I think the offense has a chance to be better defensively.
16:23There's some blind faith here, but it's blind faith in Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes.
16:27I don't know.
16:28The secondary can't be much worse.
16:31But I like the way they completely overhauled the secondary.
16:34The blind faith in Dan Campbell is about Anzarique and the impact he could make.
16:38So I got him at 12 and 5 and winning the Super Bowl.
16:41Gator, you?
16:42I have him at 11-6 and winning the Super Bowl.
16:44I have him winning the division.
16:47And last year, I had him at 12 and 5.
16:49I think they're every bit as good as they were last year and maybe even better, but
16:53the schedule's tougher.
16:55So it's okay if they lose some games.
16:56It's kind of like when we look at college football and if a team loses two games, the
17:01season's not over.
17:02You're still going to make the playoffs.
17:04I really like what they have.
17:05I think defensively, they can be way better than what they were last year.
17:10And yet saying that, I have him with an extra loss this year.
17:12I think you've got this stretch where they play back-to-back games that are mental games.
17:18Another home game against Seattle, which has just taken on Seattle, has been a house
17:22of horrors the last few times they've played them.
17:24And then they play at Dallas the following, well, they have a bye week and then they play
17:27at Dallas right after the bye week.
17:30Can they exercise the demons of what's going on with both of those teams?
17:33Sure they can.
17:34I get nervous about playing the four games in the last nine when you've got two against
17:39the Packers and two against the Bears, because I do think the Bears are going to be a much
17:42improved football team when you get to the second half of the season.
17:46And if the Packers are what they're cracked up to be, and we don't face them until November
17:503rd, that's going to be difficult.
17:51And they've got that difficult stretch where they play at Green Bay and at Houston back-to-back
17:56in early November.
17:58But offensively, I'm very excited about what they can do with Jamison Williams.
18:02How big of a step is he going to take this year?
18:05Is someone else going to emerge as a wide receiving threat?
18:08I think they might control the tempo more.
18:11I do see them running the ball more than what they did last year.
18:15The success and failure of this team comes down to how much improvement has the defense
18:19made?
18:20And I think they've made more improvement.
18:21Kang?
18:22Well, I'm a little bit more optimistic.
18:25I actually got them at 13-4 and then, of course, winning the Super Bowl.
18:29They bring back almost everybody, and the people they bring back I expect to get better.
18:33And the people they did lose, Jonah Jackson, Josh Reynolds, they do have replacements for.
18:37I think a lot of times people figure out teams like, when they lose players in the offseason,
18:41how do we overcome that?
18:42I think the fact that the players that are coming back, I expect to be better, and they
18:46brought back both coordinators, which is huge.
18:49I just expect them to...
18:50This is where the trajectories, trajectory, trajectory, trajectory, it's not even the
18:57word.
18:58They're not even close.
18:59It's headed, right guys?
19:00Here's the thing.
19:01You like Mexican food, Gator?
19:03Love Mexican food.
19:04Dan Campbell wants the whole enchilada.
19:07If I go to Applebee's, I don't even know if they have enchiladas, but I'm going to ask
19:10for an enchilada.
19:11Because I want the whole thing.
19:13There is no reason why this team can't win other than knock on wood, injuries.
19:17Everyone mentions the schedule's tougher, and it is, but they only play three outdoor
19:21games.
19:22So don't forget that.
19:23Every other game is inside, and that's where Jared Goff and the offense shines, indoor
19:26games.
19:27All right.
19:28So there it is.
19:29Every year we also add up the average of what the listeners predict, and then we mix in
19:35a little formula, subtract two wins, because every fan base has a little bit of Homer in
19:41them.
19:42So unfortunately, when we apply that formula, the Lions only finish the season 12 and 5,
19:48because the average pick today was 14 and 3.
19:55We're chesty.
19:56Yeah.
19:57We're chesty.
19:58Right?
19:59Yep.
20:00So there you have it.
