00:00In cycling, it can be considered a big exposure for National Rider and Gopher Gold Star, John Andrei Aguja,
00:08who won the World Mountain Bike Championships last week in Pal Arsenal, Andorra.
00:15That's all for me, Paolo. Thank you.
00:19Not only for 18-year-old Eriga City native cyclist and one of the Asia's top junior rider, John Andrei Aguja,
00:25but also for being a lone Filipino rider and lacking in world-level experience
00:29after his participation in the 2024 UCI World Mountain Bike Championships last Friday in Pal Arensal, Andorra.
00:37In the 84-man field of the competition, Aguja finished in 76th place,
00:43ahead of the world-ranked off-road cyclists in the world.
00:46According to Gopher Gold Sports' patron and benefactor, Jeremy Goh,
00:50they really aim to give and get a high-class exposure to young riders
00:55so that their talent can reach the most talented cyclists in the world.
01:00In the field of PTV Sports, Aguja shared what he learned from his first ever World Stage
01:07so that he can recover for the next competitions.
01:10For me, it's a big help to be able to participate in these events
01:15so that I can know what I need to improve.
01:21And because of the performance that Aguja showed after the World Competition,
01:25Gopher Gold's cycling team head coach, Ednalyn Walda, said that they have a program prepared for him
01:31regarding the chance to become a world champion someday.
01:34Just like with Carlos Euro, what happened to him?
01:37He's not the Olympic champion overnight.
01:41He's 7 years old.
01:44That's what we wanted to happen.
01:46That's what we wanted to encourage everyone.
01:49Let's not just support each other because we have a medal.
01:53Let's support each other because we know that there are talented and good PTVs.
01:57For now, the target of the Gopher Gold Cycling Team is to send more cyclists
02:01to these kinds of world competitions
02:03so that they can improve their ranking points
02:06and qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
02:11Paulo Salamatin for Pambansang TV in Bagong, Philippines.
