00:00Malaysia Airlines must re-evaluate its business model after losing over 60 maintenance staff
00:09to a rival company owned by Singapore Airlines, says transport consultant Wan Agilwan Hassan.
00:16He identified weaknesses in the airline's operational, legal and strategic systems,
00:20urging a proactive response to rebuild confidence, increase resilience and protect its strategic
00:25position.
00:27He also said the government should reassess aviation regulations and consider stronger
00:30protections for national carriers, adding that the airline's leadership needs to answer
00:35for the mistakes causing the talent drain.
00:39He said Malaysia Airlines needs to understand why its employees find SIA Engineering Company
00:43more appealing and address these issues while also developing a comprehensive workforce
00:48strategy.
00:49Wan Agil called for a more extensive legal framework to prevent talent poaching and suggested
00:54rethinking the airline's competitive posture, possibly by advocating for stricter foreign
00:59investment restrictions.
01:01Recently, Malaysia Aviation Group, the parent company of Malaysia Airlines, acknowledged
01:06the attrition of skilled workers as new maintenance, repair and overhaul players have entered the
01:11Malaysian market.
01:13He also criticized the Subang Airport rejuvenation plan, warning that foreign investment could
01:17undermine national aviation interests and Malaysia's goal of revitalizing Subang as
01:22an aviation hub.
