00:00Edward the Hero. Edward is a grand old engine. He is a friend to everyone he meets, and he is always ready to do more, to be the most really useful engine he can.
00:19One morning, Edward was at the Sodor Search and Rescue Centre. Harold hovered in. He had rescued a lost sheep from a lonely hilltop.
00:31Oh my, Harold! You're quite the hero!
00:36Just doing my job, Edward, old chap. You would do the same!
00:40I'd like to be a hero, but I'm not sure I'd be very good at it.
00:46And Edward wheezed weakly away.
00:50Edward puffed into Knapford Station. Thomas was there.
00:55Hello, Thomas. You're chuffing cheerfully.
00:58I'm excited, Edward. The Fat Controller has a special for you.
01:03Edward, today you will be the island of Sodor's rescue engine. Harold is waiting for you at the Sodor Search and Rescue Centre. He has very important jobs for you. I am sure you will do them well.
01:20Thomas' boiler bubbled.
01:23You'll be Edward the Hero! Good luck, Edward!
01:28But Edward was worried.
01:30Trembling tracks! I don't know how to be a hero!
01:35Just then, Gordon steamed through. He was pushing Rocky.
01:41Crickety-clack! Engine off the tracks! No time to waste! Have to make haste!
01:46Edward watched Gordon puff and pound. Then an idea fizzed in Edward's firebox.
01:55Gordon is a hero! He's strong and fast and stern! That's what I must be!
02:02So Edward puffed and pounded away.
02:06Edward steamed swiftly along.
02:10Strong, fast and stern! That's what I shall be! I will be a hero! Make way! For me!
02:20Then Edward puffed past Charlie.
02:23Oh my, Charlie! What's happened?
02:26I have a squeaky wheel! My driver's gone to fetch oil! I shall be late to pick up the children! And I've forgotten all my jokes! Now they won't think I'm cheeky, Charlie, at all!
02:41Edward wanted to help Charlie. He wheeshed and whooshed.
02:47I have a joke! Why was the broom late?
02:51Charlie huffed and puffed.
02:54I don't know! Why was the broom late?
02:57Because it over-swept!
03:00Charlie giggled and jiggled.
03:04You're funny, Eddie! Thank you! Now I can be Cheeky Charlie for the children!
03:09That made Edward very happy and he chuffed cheerfully away.
03:15Edward rattled and rolled along.
03:18Strong, fast and stern! That's what I shall be! I will be a hero! Make way! For me!
03:27Then he stopped.
03:29Oh dear! I wasn't strong, fast or stern. I was just funny. When I'm with Harold, I must try harder to be a hero.
03:40And Edward wheeshed away.
03:43Edward steamed slowly through Maithwaite Station. Dowager Hat was on the platform.
03:50Good morning, Ma'am.
03:52It isn't a good morning, Edward.
03:55Edward was worried for Dowager Hat.
03:58Why not, Ma'am?
04:00I sent my suitcase to Marron Station by mistake and I need it here. Silly me!
04:08I'll help you, Ma'am. I'll puff straight away to Marron Station to collect your case.
04:13And Edward raced away.
04:16Edward picked up Dowager Hat's suitcase from Marron Station and puffed it safely back to her.
04:24Dowager Hat was pleased.
04:27Edward, you are very, very kind. Three cheers for you!
04:33That made Edward very happy and he huffed happily away.
04:39Edward clickety-clacked along the track.
04:42Strong, fast and stern! That's what I shall be! I will be a hero! Make way! For me!
04:51Then he stopped.
04:53Oh, dear! I wasn't strong, fast or stern. I was just kind.
05:00When I'm with Harold, I must try harder to be a hero.
05:04And Edward trundled on.
05:07Then Edward saw Farmer McColl's dog.
05:11Oh, my! Farmer McColl's dog is alone.
05:15Perhaps she was looking for lost sheep and now she is lost.
05:21Edward wheezed steam. The dog jumped and jittered.
05:25Flatten my funnel! Farmer McColl's dog is scared of me.
05:30Perhaps if I am very quiet and very gentle, she will jump into my cab.
05:36Then I can take her back to Farmer McColl.
05:39So Edward was very quiet and very gentle.
05:44Farmer McColl's dog sniffed and snuffled.
05:49And then she jumped up into Edward's cab.
05:54Farmer McColl was very pleased to have his dog back.
05:59You were gentle, Edward. That's a fine thing to be.
06:04Edward huffed happily away.
06:07Edward rattled and rocked.
06:10Strong, fast and stern! That's what I shall be! I will be a hero!
06:17Make way for me!
06:20Then he stopped.
06:22Oh, dear! I wasn't strong, fast or stern.
06:28I was just gentle.
06:31When I'm with Harold, I must try harder to be a hero.
06:36Edward huffed into the Sodor Search and Rescue Centre.
06:41Hello, Harold!
06:43But Harold wasn't there.
06:46Pumping pistons! I took too long to chuff here.
06:50Harold must have started without me.
06:53I'm not strong, fast and stern. I'm not a hero.
06:59I'd better puff back to Knapford.
07:02The Fat Controller is sure to be cross with me.
07:06And Edward steamed sadly and slowly away.
07:11Edward wheezed towards Knapford Station.
07:15He passed Farmer McColl and his dog.
07:18There he is! Edward the Hero!
07:22Edward was puzzled.
07:25Next, Edward puffed past Charlie.
07:28The children were laughing at Edward's joke.
07:31There he is! Edward the Hero!
07:35I don't feel like a hero.
07:39At last, Edward chuffed into Knapford.
07:42The Fat Controller and Dowager Hat were there.
07:46Dowager Hat thrilled and trilled.
07:49There he is, Bertram! Edward the Hero!
07:54Edward stuttered and stammered.
07:57I'm not a hero, sir. I wasn't a really useful rescue engine.
08:03I wasn't strong, fast and stern.
08:07No, Edward! You weren't!
08:10You were kind, funny and gentle.
08:14Because you are a kind, funny and gentle engine.
08:18That's why you are a hero. Just being you.
08:24Edward beamed from buffer to buffer.
08:28Just then, Harold flew in.
08:31Come on, old chap! We have work to do!
08:35Hooray for Edward!
08:37And Edward the Hero smiled and smiled.
