00:00An at-home game with an at-home win, SMU demolished Houston Christian University in
00:09the first week of the college football season, 59-7.
00:13The Jets were on for the Mustangs.
00:15Running back Rashard Smith had nine carries for 108 yards and two touchdowns, while quarterback
00:21Kevin Jennings took the reigns from quarterback Preston Stone with 148 yards and one touchdown.
00:28This victory makes the Mustangs 2-0 so far this season.
00:30You're seeing a defense just annihilate the other team and you just got to come, you coming
00:36in and you got to do the same thing on the other side of the ball.
00:39So I feel like it definitely, it plays a big part.
00:43We spoke with Mustangs head coach Rhett Lashley in the postgame presser on what the importance
00:48is on rotating his quarterbacks.
00:50He said, listen, the game plan is to start with quarterback Preston Stone and then work
00:53Kevin Jennings into the third and fourth series.
00:56And that's just what's been working for us.
00:58We came into the game with the same approach.
00:59Preston's going to start, Kevin's going to take the third and fourth series, we're going
01:02to go back to Preston.
01:03And then by the time I think we got back to Preston, five or six drive, it was 28 or 35
01:08to nothing.
01:09And so at that point, we just were going to let them both keep playing until, you know,
01:14we felt we could turn it over to Kelder.
01:15SMU will be back at home next week to take on BYU.
