The SMU Mustangs open up their season against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs this Saturday, September 2nd at Gerald Ford Stadium at 11am CT. SMU finished last season with a 7-6 record. The Bulldogs made a bowl appearance in the New Mexico Bowl where they lost to BYU by one point.

Rhett Lashlee makes his appearance for his 2nd season as the head coach of the SMU Mustangs. SMU will start Preston Stone. The Mustangs held practice Wednesday morning and SMU head coach Rhett Lashlee spoke on quarterback Preston Stone stating, “I’m very confident in him, he just needs to shake off those nerves on Saturday and he will be ready to play. He’s going to be a great team leader in the quarterback position.” Stone will also have a solid duo of running backs behind him which should open up the field for him. SMU heads into their first game of the season as a favorite over the Bulldogs by three touchdowns.

As for the Louisiana Tech, they defeated Florida International 22-17 in Week 0 of the season. Quarterback Hank Bachmeier threw for 333 yards with a touchdown and an interception. The Bulldogs also recorded two sacks in their win against the Panthers last week.
