Hot vs. Cold: Wild weather contrasts across the country

102 degrees in Philadelphia while Missoula, MT recorded 60 degrees. Take a look at the stark temperature contrasts across the nation this week.

00:00Well, how about some wild weather contrasts on the final Wednesday of August?

00:09We'll start with the temperatures, but it's really the alerts that caught my eye.

00:13So we're taking a closer look here at the accurate, the real field temperatures in a

00:16city like Philadelphia this afternoon with 102 degrees.

00:20Meanwhile, in Missoula into Montana, accurate, the real field temperatures into the shade

00:2560 degrees.

00:27So quite a temperature difference, and it's all because of our weather patterns that

00:31we're tracking.

00:32Actually, two different fronts.

00:33One of the locations out ahead of the first front, the other location going behind the

00:37second front here.

00:38So this is what caught my eye here with the winter weather advisory across parts of Montana,

00:45including Glacier National Park.

00:47We had some over 2000 miles to the east and south, and we get into Philadelphia where

00:53we have an excessive heat warning.

00:56So let's break down the difference between these two types of alerts and just how extreme

01:01the weather is across the country into the end of August.

01:05So into Philadelphia, we go where the ongoing heat warning, excessive heat warning here

01:10does bring into the combination here of the heat and the humidity.

01:14And in these situations, heat related illnesses start to increase significantly when we're

01:17talking about extreme heat and the high humidity.

01:20So there can be a danger to this kind of weather with the heat, but there can also be a danger

01:25when it comes to the slick conditions with the winter weather advisory into the West

01:29Glacier region, talking about anywhere from three to six inches of snow moving on through.

01:35And this could cause some travel to be affected here.

01:39Now final point here that I find interesting here is that we're going to be watching temperatures

01:42come back up across Montana where we're back into 90 by Friday.

01:47But then look at Philadelphia.

01:49We go from 90s back to the 70s by the end of the week.
