00:00Starting September 2nd, airlines will be required to refund passengers for flights delayed for
00:07over five hours.
00:10Transport Minister Lok Siu Fook said this is part of the amendments made to the Malaysian
00:14Aviation Consumer Protection Code 2016.
00:20The amendments, aimed at offering consumers better protection, will be gazetted next month.
00:27Lok said airlines must offer to refund impacted passengers via the original mode of payment,
00:32credit shells or flight vouchers.
00:37He said consumers have the right to choose which mode of payment they prefer to receive
00:41their refunds in.
00:44Lok's announcement came after he said a special audit report on Malaysia Airlines' recent
00:48technical issues would be submitted to the cabinet today.
