Items from Elvis Presley, Beach Boys and more hit auction block
Rare collectibles from the worlds of music and film, including gold rings owned by Elvis Presley and a letter written by Beach Boy Brian Wilson, will be up for auction this weekend. The 'Artifacts of Hollywood & Music' sale from Kruse GWS Auctions features nearly 400 lots, with items also from Prince, Aaliyah, and Abigail Folger, a coffee heiress who was a victim of the Manson murders. Among the top lots are several items that belonged to Presley, including a microphone from the performer's Las Vegas residency, a pill bottle marked March 1977, and two unique gold rings, which are estimated to sell for $35,000 to $60,000. Another highlight is a handwritten letter by Wilson to Beach Boys bandmate and cousin Mike Love, which Kruse said was expected to go for at least $10,000. The online auction will be livestreamed and take place on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024.

00:00You
00:31This particular auction has some pretty powerful pieces as far as emotional connections for people
00:38Anything from Aaliyah to Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, Abigail Folger
00:44You know, who unfortunately was known for being a victim of the Manson murders
00:48So we kind of notice that there is this element of tragedy and icons leaving us way too soon
00:55I wish the hip hop museum would buy them
01:01That's where they would all be great
01:11And what's really cool about this collection is there is a letter actually from Brian telling Mike
01:17Hey, get back to LA, we need you here to finish this album
01:20Which is so cool, I don't think the fans even know that this stuff exists
01:24There's also never before seen photos of all of the Beach Boys dating back from the 1960s and 70s
01:31Particularly those of Dennis Wilson
01:33You know, again, he's one that we lost way too soon
01:47The Brian Wilson letter, because again of its rarity
01:50And because of the fact that it's to his cousin, another Beach Boy
01:53You know, infamous Mike Love
01:55I would see that one going for $10,000 and up, absolutely
01:59And what they did was they actually got an envelope from Hotel Biblos
02:03And did a brief description on the background of the photo
02:07Which is really exceptional to have this kind of reference
02:23It's almost like something you need to do, like a mini, like a doc
02:35I think one of my favorites is the Ram ring with diamonds on it
02:40This was Elvis' ring that he gifted to one of his backup singers from How Great Thou Art
02:46It's a really exceptional piece here
02:54So we're going to try to highlight that in our auction description
02:59We actually are looking into even making so much charity work
03:04The reason she moved to Los Angeles
03:06I didn't realize at first that it was the coffee, I didn't put it together
03:09Yeah, older coffee fortune
03:11No, and I would love to talk about that, it's a great business
03:16I would expect these rings to go as high as $35,000 to $60,000
03:22There really is a range there, but you never know until auction day
03:26But we've sold so many Elvis Presley artifacts, based on my experience
03:30I would say that they would sell in that range
03:32But what's interesting about Elvis jewelry
03:35Still proving to be one of the most powerful asset classes on the face of the planet
03:40Because what we've seen happen over the past decade
03:43Is somebody will buy a piece for $25,000 or $50,000
03:46And then the next year it'll double in value
03:49Often Elvis jewelry outperforms the S&P 500, fun fact
04:10There's different types of real estate auctions
04:13There's ones without reserve, with reserve
04:16People don't understand what is interesting about it
04:19That's never really been talked about
04:24Would you describe it as a brooch, not a necklace?
04:27Yes
04:28One of the more unique lots in the auction
04:31The Manson murders are so widely known
04:34What a lot of people don't know is more about some of the other victims
04:37Abigail Folger was the heiress to the Folger coffee fortune
04:41And from a very well-to-do family
04:44She also wrote her name beautifully on the inside of the book
04:48I would say what makes it even more special
04:50Is the amount of personal annotations
04:52That doesn't matter what page you open this book to
04:56She had so many handwritten notes
04:59And it just truly shows how important it was to her
05:01So important her family actually has a Shakespearean museum
05:05That dates back to the 1930s
05:07This book was acquired in Los Angeles in the 1980s
05:10Has never been offered for auction
05:12And we expect to see this bring very big numbers on auction day
05:38I'm a little biased when it comes to Aaliyah
05:40Just her story, being a little girl from Brooklyn, New York
05:43And becoming such an icon so early on
05:47And accomplishing so much
05:49What's really nice about these photos
05:51Is this was her last photo shoot
05:53And it was shot by the famous and iconic John Mannion
05:56He has photographed Jay-Z, Notorious B.I.G.
06:00Some of the most iconic moments in hip-hop and R&B
06:03He's captured just through his perspective and artistry
06:072001 Photos Originale
06:09Original Photos, translated
06:11It does have the address blacked out
06:13One of my other favorite things is
06:15There's certain photos, as a huge fan, I've never even seen before
06:19And as you can see, on the back, there is a note
06:23Just exhale
06:25So, really, really complete collection here
06:28And the inspirational notes from the photographer
06:31Or whoever this person was
06:34That was trying to develop the inspirational pieces
06:37From his ensemble
06:39Super Bowl, 1993
06:41Houston, Texas, it was at the Summit
07:03Thank you for watching!
