00:00After years of waiting, Newcastle's Granger market is due a multi-million pound revamp.

00:05Exciting concept designs show how the market's main arcade is to be refreshed and made into

00:08a space for music gigs, plays and other events, as well as improvements to flooring, signage

00:13and the market's facilities.

00:15Shoppers and storeholders have been waiting for the changes to come since Boris Johnson's

00:18government provided funding under their levelling up scheme, and the plans are finally set to

00:22come to fruition.

00:24Council leaders have promised they have worked closely with traders to ensure that the innovative

00:26new design will work for them, minimising disruption and increasing footfall throughout

00:30the market.

00:31A key component of the vision is a significant upgrade to the arcade to go with a restored

00:35barrel glass roof.

00:36Two new pavilions, one at each end of the arcade, will create new spaces for a variety

00:40of uses, both in the day and into the evening, while still having traders located to each

00:45side.

00:46Some of the key design innovations include automatic sliding doors at all entrances and

00:51underfloor heating in the new seating area at the non-street end of the market.

00:55Traders and customers alike are hopeful that the changes will improve an already enjoyable

00:58experience at the Grainger Market.
