00:00One of the best actors to stand out after the Cinemalaya Film Festival
00:05where he was nominated for Best Actor in the movie The Hearing
00:11And to share his character in this movie, we will have live here in the studio
00:17the actor Enzo Osorio. Good morning and welcome to Rise and Shine Philippines, Enzo.
00:22Good morning. Enzo, how do you feel that you got the award for Best Actor in the Cinemalaya Film Festival?
00:29It's like a dream come true. I feel so relaxed.
00:35We practiced facial reactions because we are more on telling on faces.
00:41And we practiced native sign language.
00:46Since it's hard, we had to get two interpreters, real interpreters.
00:52Okay, so I understand this is a documentary about, I'm sorry, the deaf?
00:57Deaf-mutes.
00:58Okay, so how was it? How did you make sure that you will give justice to your character as Lucas?
01:05So, I did my best in my acting because one of my motivations why I did my best
01:17is because my mother was almost a rape victim.
01:22So, it gave me more motivation to give a message to the whole world that
01:29not because you're deaf or mute, you can't speak, you can't fight.
01:35You will always lose.
01:38There's still hope that you will win in cases like that.
01:42Okay, your other cast, did they help you in creating a character that you played as Lucas?
01:51Yes. So, one of the actors, Coach Neil, he's an actor slash coach of mine.
02:00He taught me how to give the desired reaction of the director or how to deliver my role.
02:11And then, while we were filming, the first day, I was really stressed
02:18because I didn't want to embarrass the people who sent me there.
02:24And I was so pressured that I didn't know what to do.
02:28And then, Mama Mylene, Mylene Dizon, she went to me in the middle of the shoot.
02:34Then, she hugged me. She calmed me down and said,
02:38Don't be pressured. Just calm down. Breathe in, breathe out.
02:42You can do it, son.
02:45And then, she kept saying some sad words to make me cry and fulfilling my role.
02:54She's very supportive.
02:55In fairness, she had a good relationship with the cast.
03:00But, of course, we understand that there's no pain, no gain.
03:04You really went through a lot here.
03:07So, what was your biggest challenge here in your production, in The Hearing?
03:11Probably, the sign language and then, time.
03:17Because, like...
03:20The shooting is just for one month and some weeks, right?
03:23Yes, sir.
03:24Is your training included in that?
03:25Yes, sir.
03:26So, while we're filming...
03:27You learned it so fast.
03:29While we're filming, that's what I'm taught.
03:31Okay.
03:32We're not...
03:35Because when I auditioned,
03:38one week after that,
03:40we started taping right away.
03:42Okay.
03:43We only had one day to practice and prepare.
03:46And then, while we're shooting, I didn't do anything.
03:50My coach,
03:52Sir J.X, the interpreter,
03:56he teaches me native sign language so that I can prepare.
04:01While I'm not taping yet.
04:03You used Filipino Sign Language? FSL?
04:05Yes, sir.
04:06Did you consult with real deaf youth?
04:08Experts.
04:09Yes, sir.
04:11So, I overheard them talking.
04:15They actually were going to do a girl.
04:18They were going to do the main character, a girl.
04:21But then, they saw this documentary about a boy,
04:25a deaf young boy that got molested by an adult.
04:31So, they changed it.
04:33Because they said that
04:37the attention to deaf boys is not enough.
04:41So, they changed the main character to a boy
04:46to showcase that
04:49other bad people,
04:51they're not just picking girls.
04:53That also happens to young adults.
04:56In terms of acting,
04:58what did you learn from this film
05:00that you can use in your future films?
05:05Probably,
05:08the sign language that they taught me,
05:13I think I can use it further in the future
05:16for my next projects.
05:18Maybe I'll get projects like I'm Deaf Again.
05:22So, I can use it again.
05:24And the acting techniques, for sure.
05:26They taught me how to be a director.
05:29Maybe I can use it.
05:31You know, he has a resemblance to Sijan Haranilia.
05:35Santino.
05:36Yes.
05:38Anyway, congratulations.
05:41To be the Best Actor in the Cinema Life Film Festival.
05:44Again, our guest from the movie The Hearing.
05:47And of course, thank you for your time, Enzo Osorio.
05:52Thank you, Enzo.
