Episode three of the Patch 1.47 round up series, this time mainly looking at the new features that are due to be released in Patch 1.47, such as tournaments, in game items and the new Driver Assist Mode which I don't really understand to well.

00:00Hello everybody, and welcome to episode 3 of the patch 1.47 roundup series.
00:05Hopefully this will be the last episode, because hopefully we'll be getting patch 1.47 soon.
00:10I can't see it being delayed too long, although we don't actually have a date.
00:15In this episode, again, we'll just look at the developments from the past, since episode 2 of the patch 1.47 roundup series.
00:24We'll start off looking at the dev blog article for two of the new vehicles added into the game, the R2-1941 and the Panzer VI E Tiger.
00:33Now, for the R2-1941, I'm quoting from the dev blog article.
00:38It's from the first half of 1941, has not been touched by production in the war years, which gives it slightly better flight characteristics to its later brothers.
00:47Only had modest weaponry, could provide reliable assistance to ground forces, or provided reliable assistance,
00:54and even in battle with fighter aircraft, the R2-1941 can stand up for itself and not be easy prey.
00:59Now, that's not particularly anything we didn't know already.
01:01We knew it had modest armament, not as good against tanks as the later R2s.
01:08We knew it was probably going to be more as a fighter aircraft, although I didn't know it had better flight characteristics than later aircraft.
01:16That did actually come as a bit of a shock to me.
01:19Carrying on, it says, model is redesigned in line with modern requirements.
01:24It's a quality renewal of the R2 series. Polygon counters increased from 14k to 52k.
01:30Improved accuracy of geometry, parent in a series of future upgrades for the entire line of R2s.
01:37So, okay, it's probably one of the more detailed aircraft we've had in War Thunder so far,
01:43and apparently, if it's a parent for future upgrades, I assume they're going to redesign the entire R2s, upgrade them graphics-wise.
01:50Which is quite good. It's always good to see new aircraft being updated graphic-wise,
01:55although I think they could maybe focus on some of the older aircraft.
01:58The HE-111, for example, we've got a very old model that needs updating.
02:04But, carrying on, the armour of the aircraft is made from 30 separate parts,
02:08which means every armour piece has its correct thickness and material.
02:11It is placed at the correct angle, and if a shell hits it, every armour piece's thickness will be calculated.
02:16The R2 model has the most detailed and precise damage model compared to any R2 ever created in the game,
02:22and sets a new quality standard for all aircraft.
02:25Whether that new damage model means it's likely to take more hits or less, I have a feeling it would probably mean more hits.
02:31If it's calculating every hit. Maybe at the moment it doesn't calculate every hit.
02:38But, it's good they're doing these new things.
02:42Hopefully they'll expand this to all aircraft, which would be very good.
02:48Moving on to the next vehicle is the Tiger, Tiger E, a late war variant of the Tiger tank.
02:55Now again, quoting from the dev blog,
02:58the late Tiger, same age as the Royal Tiger, so about the same time as the Tiger II,
03:02offers better armour than its predecessors.
03:05The top plate of the turret is thicker, and there is also protection against turret jamming,
03:09through the addition of an armoured strip in the turret ring.
03:12Which is quite important, unless I'm mistaken, one of the first Tigers captured by the British was captured
03:18because a 57mm round lodged itself in the turret ring.
03:22So obviously they learnt from that mistake.
03:26Carrying on, another handsome Tiger, main distinction can be seen in the modernisation of the track running gear,
03:32installation of all metal rollers of internal suspension,
03:35and a smaller diameter drive wheel for powering the tracks.
03:39It's not as detailed as the R2 description unfortunately,
03:42but we do learn a bit more.
03:45It's got slightly thicker armour on the top of the turret,
03:49for protection against air attack, shrapnel, that sort of stuff.
03:52I didn't know about the turret jamming before,
03:55so that will definitely help, hopefully prevent turrets being jammed so easily.
04:01The modernisation of the track running gear,
04:05and the installation of all metal rollers of internal suspension,
04:09smaller diameter drive wheel, I don't know how much effect that will have.
04:13I admit I'm not a huge expert on tanks,
04:15but if it's an improvement on the Tiger H in those respects,
04:20very good job.
04:21I definitely think it will be a good addition for the game,
04:24although I do worry it's still going to be outclassed battle rating wise,
04:27against some of the newer tanks in the game.
04:30Now the next thing we're looking at is in-game items,
04:33something we looked at a little bit in the dev server.
04:36So we already know a little bit about it,
04:38we know we can get them from daily rewards,
04:41or possibly other ways,
04:44it does mention other ways of getting them,
04:47various sources such as gifts during specials,
04:50randomly obtained as login reward,
04:52or immediately as a trophy after battle,
04:54so possibly as battle trophies in some cases.
04:57You can see here in this picture someone's got a 300% RP boost.
05:01Now we're not going to look at every single paragraph on here,
05:05because we'll be here all day,
05:07we'll just look over the basics.
05:09So you can see here in the inventory there are a few different things,
05:13battle trophies, boosters, wages, discounts and tickets.
05:16You've also got item shop, which is where you can buy some,
05:19the in-game store I assume.
05:21Boosters increase income of lines or research points in battle,
05:25can be personal and team orientated,
05:27may also influence both the entire battle results or only a part of it.
05:31Not infinite, some are active for a specific time,
05:33some are active for only a limited number of battles,
05:36or limited amounts of successful completion.
05:39For other conditions listed in the description of the boost.
05:42They've got a formula here,
05:44for the case of several active team boosts I think.
05:47Added in order from higher to lower,
05:49and their effectiveness decreases with each additional item.
05:52Here we've got discounts, as the name says,
05:55reduce the cost of certain goods to the player.
05:58Trophies, chests, award bonuses or give random items,
06:02are listed in the description.
06:04So here we've got a battle trophy,
06:06that contains either a premium tank, 100,000 lions,
06:09a random booster for RP or silver lions,
06:12300 golden eagles or a premium account for one day.
06:16But with this one I think you have to purchase with 300 golden eagles,
06:20or 299, so,
06:22while it could potentially get you a very good premium,
06:25such as the M46 Tiger,
06:27or even get all your golden eagles back plus one,
06:29you could also end up with something,
06:31like a premium account for one day,
06:33which I'm pretty sure is not worth 300 golden eagles,
06:36or these boosters, or 100,000 lions,
06:38again not worth 300 golden eagles.
06:40So if you're a bit of a betting person,
06:42maybe it'll be good,
06:44but I personally won't use them very often I don't think.
06:47We've also got wages,
06:49which basically allows you to create a bet,
06:51and you get an award if you complete the bet.
06:54The bet is considered complete,
06:56if the player has received a maximum number of defeats or victories.
06:59So basically you can do a bit of betting with the game,
07:02not sure what the bets will be,
07:04but could potentially be quite good.
07:06Don't really know until we've tried it though.
07:09We've also got tournament tickets,
07:11which, as we know,
07:13let us get into tournaments,
07:15which we've already explained.
07:17I do quite like some of these,
07:19especially the daily rewards,
07:21because you could potentially get something quite good for free.
07:23The wages, the ones shown here,
07:25they seem quite,
07:27you know, bad.
07:29Not bad, but they seem,
07:31they've got either ridiculously good rewards,
07:34or they've got ridiculously bad.
07:36There's no middle ground.
07:38Something maybe worth 300 golden eagles,
07:40other than 300 golden eagles.
07:42It could potentially turn out good.
07:45Not particularly sure I'll use it though.
07:47Wages and discounts,
07:50they seem quite good.
07:52Although, again, it depends how they're dealt with,
07:54how they're released,
07:56and what they entail.
07:58Now, last of all,
08:00a bit of a feature I'm not particularly sure about,
08:04or I don't really understand it.
08:06Driver assist mode.
08:08This is a description they've given.
08:10Every player who has fought a battle
08:12on the more manoeuvrable ground vehicles
08:14has faced a situation where it becomes hard
08:16to both control your vehicle and conduct
08:18aimed fire during the heat of battle.
08:20In reality, this is done by two different crew members,
08:23but in War Thunder, it requires one person.
08:25Okay.
08:27Introducing the new driver model in this mode,
08:29your vehicle will be controlled by the driver,
08:31who will steer based on your commands,
08:33and at the same time attempt to provide
08:35the highest possible speed.
08:37Operation will work like this.
08:39You can enable this feature at any time
08:41by holding the right button.
08:43At that point, the current position of the cursor
08:45will be defined as neutral.
08:47Some small changes in the mouse's position
08:49relative to this direction will give orders
08:51to the driver to turn the vehicle.
08:53In this mode,
08:55you can continue to travel through the battlefield
08:57as well as performing never-ending manoeuvres
08:59around enemy vehicles while maintaining
09:01aimed fire on them.
09:03Here's a little video they've given.
09:07I'm not really sure how this works.
09:11I'm a bit confused.
09:15Surely this is just basically taking it away
09:17from the arrow keys
09:19like D, A, S, W
09:21and turning it to the mouse.
09:23But if you're driving with the mouse,
09:25how are you aiming your gun?
09:27Maybe this is one of those things
09:29you have to test
09:31to really understand it.
09:33I'm not sure of the usefulness
09:35because, again, it seems like
09:37if you're using your mouse to drive the tank
09:39you're not really shooting at the enemy.
09:41I'm just not really sure of the need of it
09:43at the moment.
09:45It's not that difficult to control the tanks
09:47surely with two hands.
09:49Maybe I'm not getting it.
09:51I'm just a bit confused about this mode.
09:53Once I've actually tested it
09:55I will give better feedback.
09:57It could potentially be good
09:59if it works by letting you
10:01free yourself to do the gunnery
10:03but at the moment it seems like
10:05you're still controlling the tank
10:07but not being able to shoot at the same time.
10:09I'll get back to you when I've got
10:11some better feedback on that.
10:13Mixed opinions on this at the moment.
10:15So that's it for episode 3
10:17of the Patch 1.47 Roundup series.
10:19So far the changes do look very good.
10:21There are one or two things
10:23I'm not particularly sure about
10:25or probably won't use myself
10:27but overall this update does seem like
10:29it's coming out to be very good.
10:31As I've said, it's a little bit short
10:33on the amount of vehicles being added
10:35but the amount of features and bug fixes
10:37is quite ridiculously high.
10:39Hopefully if they can do
10:41another few patches like this
10:43the game will be much improved
10:45and as long as they add new features
10:47and as long as they add a few vehicles
10:49every patch still.
10:51I'm still a bit disappointed Britain
10:53hasn't got a plane or anything for this patch
10:55or even a breeze skin
10:57but there you go I suppose.
