00:00So the Brighton Sailing Club is situated between the old pier, which is the disused pier, and
00:06the collapsed pier, and the new pier, and it really is the hub of the Brighton seafront.
00:13The actual club has been in existence since as early as 1870, and what we want to do here
00:19is bring a number of the Brighton community clubs together, so the Brighton Sailing Club,
00:26the Brighton Explorers Club, and the Brighton Surf Lifesavers Club.
00:29I'm used to being down here, I used to surf when I was younger, not so much now, but I'm
00:35quite familiar with the arches, and this one is actually in very good condition compared
00:39to what we used to be in back in the 70s and 80s.
00:44And I know the activities that they run here are really, really good, especially for the
00:48children, and they run courses, and they don't just sail boats, what people might expect,
00:55but they do surf savings, so they do a lot of surfboard activities as well, and I think
01:01it's great to get the children involved.
01:04What we're looking to achieve is to try and get everyone down on the Brighton seafront
01:07involved in sea-based activities.
01:10This is a great example of the legacy of the Olympics, so Sports England, well, the government
01:16decided to release a number of funds to local community clubs as a result of London running
01:23the Olympics in 2012, and what we've seen is that that has slowly trickled down to clubs
01:29like this and other clubs down the seafront to enable us to facilitate more activity across
01:36the entire community.
01:37I now declare Brighton Sailing Club's safety pavilion open!
