00:00This is the story of a woman who became a victim due to a crime in Méa Culpa her husband committed.

00:17With each story, we have come to know of very painful, traumatic experiences
00:22that have often had fatal consequences,
00:25for both the victim and her family members.
00:27Today's story will take us to another sphere of crime,
00:31to a world where horror, fear and the shame of denouncing what happened are mixed,
00:36where the consequences are often irreversible,
00:39of not providing adequate assistance,
00:41and where prevention becomes more and more urgent
00:44because the victims are adults and mostly children.
00:48I am referring to sexual crimes.
00:51According to a study published by the National Women's Service,
00:55more than 20,000 sexual crimes are committed annually in Chile,
00:59of which only 11% are punished by justice.
01:03The figures are more shocking
01:05if we point out that every 26 minutes there is a rape in the country
01:09and that 72% of the rapists are relatives or well-known.
01:14Let's add to this the natural difficulty of denouncing a crime of this nature
01:19and that, as is to be imagined, recovering from such a cowardly act
01:23always involves a great effort by the women who have been victims.
01:27Undoubtedly, a topic on which society has a lot to do.
01:31Today's Mea Culpa will tell us the story of the rapist of Maipú.
