00:00This is the first part of the interview with our panelists, and we will continue in the next part of the program.
00:07It was the mea culpa of Germán Núñez on such a serious crime considered by society as kidnapping.
00:14We are with our panelists to start this conversation immediately.
00:18We are accompanied, as every Wednesday, by the criminologist Andrés Domínguez, who is also a professor at the Institute of Research.
00:25We are also joined by Dr. Jorge Agostine, a professor at the Institute of Carabineros.
00:32And, as always, Carlos Pinto, the Director General of Mea Culpa.
00:36But this is the first time we have the opportunity, as guests of this panel of conversation,
00:42to welcome one of the relatives, in this case, of the victim of kidnapping.
00:46We are joined by the mother of the minor who was kidnapped, Mrs. Silvia Galleguillos,
00:50to whom we welcome to this space of conversation.
00:54Silvia, good evening. Thank you very much for being with us.
00:58I think it is very important the contribution you can make to us, to know, very closely,
01:03what a mother lives when a child is kidnapped.
01:06How were those 48 hours for you?
01:09They were horrible. They were very bad.
01:14I think it's the worst thing I've ever experienced in my life.
01:18There are no words, there are no feelings.
01:21You transform, you are not a human being, you are...
01:24I don't know, many things happen to you that I think are difficult to repeat.
01:29With all this program, they have removed something from me that I had forgotten.
01:34Why do you want to forget that topic?
01:36Because it is an experience that, in some way, you will have to integrate into your life and that of your son.
01:39This is a crime that, for me, has no name.
01:42My son, as seen in the recreation, was not taken care of, he was abandoned.
01:47My son was abandoned for two days.
01:50Only with God knows, my son did not have food intake.
01:55I mean, there is no...
01:57The witness of the kidnapper, who faces the cameras,
02:02because the other one does not have the courage to do so,
02:05says, I treated this child very well.
02:08Well, it's his version and I understand it and I understand it.
02:12I will never judge these gentlemen.
02:15Because I am not justice, nor am I a God.
02:18But, the truth is that my son was not treated that way.
02:22My son was in danger of death from half an hour in which he was put in a car until he was delivered.
02:27He was not delivered in a truck, as seen here.
02:30Because it is their version.
02:32My son was found in a dumpster, among mice,
02:35and they left him alone for an hour and a half.
02:38From five thirty in the morning until seven ten.
02:41Does he remember anything about the situation he lived?
02:43I do not know if the grace of God does not remember,
02:45because he was always drugged.
02:47Always. The child always slept.
02:49He only woke up to send the cassette that the father demanded.
02:53Silvia, he today is, I understand, about eleven years old, right?
02:57Yes.
02:58Not only does he not remember what happened, as I understand those words,
03:02did you not warn him that this situation had been experienced by him?
03:06No, Carlos.
03:07We found that a two, four, six, eight-year-old child,
03:11you can not tell him this, it is strong, it is painful.
03:14And for us, as a family, it was easier to omit this.
03:19And now we find that we had to talk to my son
03:23and tell him what happened.
03:25And for him it is tremendously painful and it is a new situation.
03:28My son is changing his life again.
03:31Nine years ago he changed my life, the father, the family.
03:36They destroy many illusions, many chimeras.
03:39And today they destroy, perhaps, the naivety of my son.
03:43And they clarify why some parents are apprehensive, for sure.
03:47But it is a damage that does not ...
03:49I mean, I imagine that they did not measure this.
03:52For them it was money.
03:54And I have no doubt that this being, who in a minute
03:58did not have mercy on a two-year-old child,
04:01would have it again.
04:03If this man needs money, I think,
04:05that in addition to having been in prison, he has learned.
04:08And maybe, I hope, that he will never do it again.
04:12But I have no faith that he would not do it again.
04:15How can you translate to us, Amo,
04:17that many mothers who are watching us can say,
04:20what can I do for my son?
04:22How can I prevent a situation like this?
04:24Well, I think we have to take care of our children, give them weapons.
04:28If I have an 11 or 12-year-old daughter and she is going to travel by bus,
04:32watch out!
04:33If someone talks to you, scream!
04:36If someone is ...
04:38I mean, let's prevent.
04:40Let's try to take care of our children, if they are minors,
04:43not just on the street.
04:45If we see that someone is harassing us or looking at our houses,
04:49watch out, let's report it.
04:51We have a fantastic police force.
04:54I always, when this unfortunate episode ended,
04:57I always thanked the investigations and the police.
05:01Today we have a fantastic kidnapping.
05:05Thanks to my son's kidnapping, this happened in Chile.
05:08Of which I feel very proud.
05:11And I think that in the face of any doubt, in the face of any suspicion,
05:15let's communicate immediately.
05:17We have a fantastic police force.
05:19After hearing everything you have told us,
05:21which is really very shocking,
05:23I want to ask a question as a woman.
05:25Is it possible to forgive a crime like this?
05:32The logical thing would be for me to say no, Cecilia.
05:36But I am not ...
05:38I am only a human being.
05:40I am not someone to forgive or not to forgive.
05:43They have hurt me a lot.
05:45A lot, a lot of damage to my son, to my family.
05:49I have had many feelings, many sorrows.
05:52I cry a lot.
05:54I am alive.
