00:00Previously, our 20th season kicked off on Phillip Island, where our blockheads will
00:14be renovating an old holiday retreat into five luxury homes.
00:20Our five teams arrived, engaged couple from WA, Jessie and Paige, newlyweds, Chris, Jessie
00:29and Mimi from South Australia, Ricky and his best mate and expectant dad, Hayden, from
00:38Victoria, married couple Courtney and Grant from NSW, and married parents Carly and Brad
00:53from Queensland.
00:54This is it, like, we're actually doing this.
00:58To determine their houses for the next 12 weeks, they picked penguins.
01:02I gave them 250 grand for the reno and got straight down to business with this week's
01:10room.
01:11They're trying to kill us.
01:12Where are we going to sleep for next week?
01:24I'm going to throw up.
01:27Tonight, the rookies are blindsided by the bills.
01:30Oh dear.
01:31We are a day behind.
01:33I just feel like I'm failing.
01:36Sophie did some early labour.
01:39I'm going to be an uncle.
01:41I'm going to be an uncle, Scotty.
01:44The stakes have never been higher.
01:48It just became a $140,000 week.
01:53If you win week one, you are pretty much set to win the block.
01:58And Paige puts her foot down.
02:00Don't get me wrong, I definitely felt dramatic.
02:03I felt the drama.
02:05I was the drama.
02:06I actually can't accept it.
02:08I cannot accept it.
02:09You need to find some sort of compromise for me.
02:12I've been nothing but accommodating for you.
02:14I'm not doing anything wrong and they're talking to me like assholes.
02:39As the blockheads wake to a new day,
02:41house twos Courtney and Grant are still adjusting to their new dicks.
02:45Hey.
02:47How are you feeling?
02:49I feel a little bit haggard today.
02:51Yeah, camping is getting to me.
02:55We started as happy campers, now we're sad campers
02:57and we really want to build a room so we can get out of our camping phase.
03:01The air bed needs a good pump as well.
03:03We're slowly laying on the ground.
03:06But the good thing is we're not really sleeping that much.
03:08So we're getting an hour a night max.
03:11So it doesn't really make a difference.
03:13Yep, there's not much time for sleep
03:15because I've well and truly chucked them in the deep end for week one.
03:19In just five days, they'll need to deliver their first bathroom to the judges.
03:24And the way the rooms are looking at the moment,
03:26they've all got a lot of work to do.
03:29We've got a big day today in the house.
03:33Yeah, we've got insulation to get in the floor,
03:36we've got flooring to get down, we've got sheeting to go up
03:39and then we've got waterproof Wednesday.
03:41Yeah, so it's going to be a big day.
03:48Bathrooms can be the smallest rooms in the house
03:50but the most complicated to construct.
03:53At least five inspections are required.
03:57First, teams need to build the floor framing
03:59and get the subfloor inspected.
04:03Then they build the walls and the plumbing and electrical is roughed in.
04:08Next, the insulation is installed.
04:11Then they'll sheet the walls and ceiling.
04:14After that, they can waterproof, which also needs to be ticked off.
04:19So Waterproof Wednesday is a good milestone to hit on the block
04:23as it leaves you with just over three days to complete all your tiling,
04:27install the fixtures and fittings and style your room.
04:31Annually wed couple Christian and Mimi in House 5
04:34will be pushing hard to get it all done today.
04:37Hello, good morning.
04:39We know that Waterproof Wednesdays is a huge thing
04:42and if you're able to make Waterproof Wednesdays,
04:45it sets you up for success for the rest of the week.
04:48The thing is, this wasn't like,
04:51OK, let's make Waterproof Wednesday to get ahead.
04:53No, this was, let's make Waterproof Wednesday to just finish.
04:59House 5 is the only two-storey house on the block
05:02and because this week's bathroom sits directly below an upstairs bathroom,
05:06they've had to plan both at the same time
05:09to make sure all the plumbing and electrical is in the right spot.
05:13They've also got the biggest room to deliver this week
05:16at over 10 square metres.
05:18It's roughly double the size of everyone else's.
05:21So the pressure is on.
05:24Their bathroom will feature a large wet area with a shower and bath.
05:28They'll have a double vanity along a tile feature wall,
05:32a porter timber accent on the ceiling
05:35and will style with a contemporary coastal theme.
05:38And even though they've got the biggest space,
05:41they're the first ones to get their framing inspected.
05:44Probably 20 more minutes, maybe, just get your angles in.
05:47It's on the blocking. Yeah, we're on our way.
05:50Yeah, on our way.
05:51So our builder, Daniel, he's told us,
05:54call your plasterers to come in at 10.30
05:58because we'll be done with the subfloor.
06:01They can plaster and they said they'll take about 3-4 hours.
06:04So as soon as they're done, the waterproofer comes
06:07and I think we're going to make waterproof Wednesday late afternoon.
06:12Fingers crossed.
06:14Neat. Beautiful. Neat.
06:16That's what we like to hear. Neat.
06:18That's what we like to hear. Neat.
06:22While House 5 are tracking well,
06:24over in House 4, Queensland couple Carly and Brad are way behind.
06:31We still don't have a structure up.
06:33We don't have walls.
06:35We have two bits of timber.
06:37Two bits of timber and not walls or floor.
06:40We are miles behind them. Yeah.
06:43Hairdresser Carly and electrician and plumber Brad
06:46have so far struggled to lock in a layout for their bathroom.
06:50I have been trying to make this work every step of the way
06:55and then something changes and then the whole thing shifts.
07:01So we've come into Wednesday
07:04after Tuesday being just what it was with all the changes
07:10and now I've got to make another change.
07:13Why are you not smiling, Dan? What's happening?
07:15Just heard you've changed the whole layout.
07:17What's not the whole layout? It's just the toilet.
07:19Where's the bath going?
07:21It's not going.
07:23House 4's room will no longer feature a bath.
07:26Instead, they'll have a large open shower.
07:28They'll also include a big vanity with heaps of storage
07:32and will style the space with a black toilet,
07:34black tiles and even black grout.
07:38The theme that I'm going for... Yeah.
07:40..is dark, textural, modern, predominantly black.
07:45Why's that?
07:46Not many people do it.
07:48And, like, I'm a bit quirky and a bit weird,
07:50so I feel like there's definitely a demographic for it.
07:53I literally cannot be the only person that is like this.
07:57And, you know, doing a property on Phillip Island,
07:59like, most people are just going to get a coastal brief
08:01and kind of go with it.
08:03And I thought, well, why not look for a market
08:05that's chasing something a little bit different
08:07and it's going to stand out.
08:09They'll certainly stand out if they don't finish the room this week,
08:12so they'll need to hit the ground running today.
08:15I can't afford for there to be anything that we put in
08:18and then you go, I want to change that.
08:20Well, there's a plan now, isn't there?
08:22Yeah, I want to make sure.
08:24The plan's the plan.
08:28While House 4 try and stick to their new plan,
08:31next door in House 3,
08:32best mates Ricky and Hayden are gearing up for a busy day.
08:36It's going to be a warm one again.
08:38Waterproof Wednesdays!
08:41The plan was to be waterproofing by Wednesday night.
08:45Yep.
08:46So I've got to have inspection done,
08:50sheeting done for my waterproofing to even start.
08:54So just got a very strict timeline that's got to go all to plan
08:58to make waterproof Wednesday actually happen.
09:01But we're on the block. It's like Never Neverland.
09:04You know, this is where miracles happen,
09:06so we'll just make it work.
09:08Unlike House 4's little back bathroom,
09:10Ricky and Hayden are embracing a coastal theme.
09:13They'll include an enclosed shower and toilet on one side,
09:16a large oak vanity on the other,
09:18and the hero of the space will be their $12,000 fluted bath.
09:23And plumber Ricky has been keeping the build on track.
09:26We had to get inspection for our flooring first thing in the morning.
09:29How are you, mate?
09:30Good day. Yourself, mate?
09:31Oh, gee, no, I just had a look over it all.
09:33It's pretty good, isn't it? Yeah.
09:35Yep, really good. Happy? Yeah.
09:37So we're good to put some floor down?
09:39Um, yeah, I think so.
09:41Oh, good. Legend, mate. Good on you.
09:43First bathroom. Let's do it.
09:45Thanks, lads. Keep it going.
09:46Cheers. See ya.
09:48Where are they? Get in here, boys.
09:50Let's go.
09:52Getting to waterproofing Wednesday is going to be tight,
09:55but we think we can do it.
09:57Let's go. Let's do it.
09:58House 3, baby.
10:01Over in House 1, engaged couple Jessie and Paige
10:05aren't happy with their progress so far.
10:10We finished Tuesday with subfloor still incomplete.
10:15Um, walls weren't up and it was deflating.
10:19It was really deflating.
10:21Chippy Jessie came into the block filled with confidence.
10:24I want to be the first ones finished each week
10:26and walk around to people's houses and be like,
10:29do you guys want a hand finished over there? Done.
10:32Woo-hoo!
10:35But over the past two days,
10:37he's learned that even for an experienced Chippy,
10:40completing a bathroom in week one of the block
10:43is a massive challenge.
10:45I've noticed everyone has the insulation but me.
10:49It's ten o'clock, we're losing... He told me eight o'clock.
10:52We've just lost three hours not having the timber here.
10:54We're missing our sheets for our flooring.
10:57Just stop. Just stop.
11:00Stop!
11:02The pressure of Monday and Tuesday
11:04when everything went wrong really exploded in my head Wednesday
11:07and I think the thought of failing was really creeping into my mind.
11:17So what's the timeline right now?
11:20So timeline is... Where are we at?
11:23Subfloor still. Yep.
11:25How long is that going to take you think?
11:27I don't know. The boys are working hard to get that done.
11:31But it's not, like, a massive space.
11:35At just over five square metres,
11:37House One's bathroom is the smallest on the block this week.
11:42They're planning a coastal-inspired design
11:45which will feature a closed-in shower opposite a bathroom vanity.
11:49And the hero of the space will be their green marble feature tiles
11:53which will run floor to ceiling.
11:55But there's a huge amount of work ahead of them
11:58if they're going to pull it off for Sunday's reveal.
12:01Yeah, so I was coming to the realisation
12:04that Waterproof Wednesday probably wasn't going to happen.
12:07And I think you also started to spiral a bit as well,
12:10which made the weight of everything happening so much more intense.
12:14Yeah.
12:24Do you need to re-evaluate if you want to be here?
12:28I think I've always been someone that holds emotions in,
12:32because I had to, because I had to support people around me.
12:36So I've always been someone that would hold it in
12:39until it came exploding out.
12:41And I think that's what happened Wednesday.
12:49Hello? Hey, Mum, it's Jesse.
12:52It just all came, like, crashing down.
12:55Yeah.
12:56So I went to go speak to Mum on the phone in the tent
12:59and, yeah, it kind of just all crumbled.
13:01I just feel like I'm not on top of anything right now.
13:04I feel like it's just all, like, clouding my judgement
13:07and everything, it's just, like, creating a big ash around me.
13:12Just breathe, get out of it.
13:15You're doing a good job.
13:17Like, you don't actually understand how much of a rollercoaster it is.
13:21I'm loving it, you know?
13:23But I hate it at the same time, and it's such a weird emotion,
13:26because, like, it's, like, I'm walking around,
13:29I'm so, like, stressed and, like, miserable,
13:31but I'm also, like, loving it, and it's, like...
13:34Yeah, I do understand, mate. I do understand.
13:38It's just, like, I don't know how to get out of this, like, hole that I'm in.
13:42Bathrooms are the hardest, Jesse.
13:45Everybody says that on the block.
13:47Just get through this week.
13:49At the moment, I just don't even see how we're going to get anywhere.
13:52I don't see how we're going to get any finishings on.
13:54There's still three days, mate.
13:56It's amazing what you can do in three days.
13:58I already just had got stuck in my head that we weren't going to finish,
14:02so I felt massive failure, and, like, knowing that everyone I know back home
14:06is going to see first week of the block,
14:08and Jesse, who does this for a job, fails.
14:12It's day three of the first week on the block,
14:14and the pressure of delivering their main bathroom by Sunday
14:17has become overwhelming for house one's Jesse.
14:20I already just had got stuck in my head that we weren't going to finish.
14:27Yeah, I'm right.
14:29First week of the block, and Jesse, who does this for a job,
14:33fails.
14:35It's day three of the first week on the block,
14:37and the pressure of delivering their main bathroom by Sunday
14:40Jesse, who does this for a job, fails.
14:46Why are you crying?
14:47Because I get upset when you're upset.
14:49Whenever you cry, I cry.
14:52The block is stressful.
14:54You feel that. You feel it really hard, really fast.
14:57It's like a punch in the face.
14:59But I think you just kept on digging that hole for yourself in it as well.
15:04I didn't believe that I could get out of it because I was just so far gone.
15:08I just feel like I'm failing.
15:10Honey.
15:13You're not failing.
15:15Yeah.
15:18Why do I cry? It's so weak.
15:22Honey, look at me.
15:24I don't want you to say things like it's weak
15:26because it's so important for other men to know
15:30that people are allowed to cry and they're allowed to have feelings, okay?
15:34And you're such a wonderful person, and you're just being hard on yourself.
15:40I know it's three days in, and I get that,
15:43but I can't get out of my head that it's like
15:45we're going to present like a room with nothing in it.
15:48But do you know what?
15:49And this is what I keep on saying throughout the day.
15:51You just have to keep going.
15:54You don't need to start thinking about Sunday yet.
15:56Yeah.
15:57You need to think about your next five minutes,
15:59and then you need to think about the next five minutes after that.
16:02Yeah.
16:03And I think you are doing an amazing job,
16:07and you're doing a better job than you even think you're doing.
16:11I felt really down and probably, like, legit,
16:14probably the worst I've ever felt in my life.
16:16But once I kind of exploded and got all those emotions out,
16:19I felt better.
16:21I felt like I could be myself again.
16:24Just pick yourself up for right now.
16:27Yeah.
16:28And then just work on every minute.
16:31That's it.
16:40Putting the nail bag on and kind of helping out the guys,
16:43it gave me a sense of, like, freedom
16:46and accomplishment of, like, doing something that I love to do
16:49and something that I feel good at.
16:53So it gave me, like, a purpose for the rest of the day,
16:56which is really nice.
16:58All right, we'll roll that.
17:00Go team, go.
17:01Good work, boys.
17:02We had Scotty come around for a nice...
17:04Little pep talk.
17:05...pep talk.
17:06Don't let it get, you know, get you down too much.
17:08Yeah.
17:09Because number one, the block is bloody hard, right?
17:12Yeah.
17:13And you're out of your comfort zone.
17:14You've obviously been building all your adult life,
17:17but this is not the norm.
17:19This is something else.
17:20It's something else.
17:21Yeah.
17:22It's another level, right?
17:23Yeah.
17:24So you're not going to be the first person that falls behind
17:26on week one on bathroom week.
17:27Yeah.
17:28It's all about planning.
17:29Yeah.
17:30And then put your head down and get your nail gun out
17:33and start firing.
17:34Yeah, and I already, like, feel so much better
17:36just having the nail bag on.
17:37Yeah.
17:38Yeah.
17:39There is just so much support around the block,
17:43and you really feel it in those moments.
17:45Yeah.
17:46You know what you're doing.
17:47Yeah.
17:48You're going to be fine,
17:49and I see that you've got great potential.
17:51I see that too.
17:52I know.
17:53I see it.
17:54Yeah, see, from your missus and me, mate, we love you.
17:56That's all I need.
17:57We love you.
17:58I just need my missus and Scotty.
17:59Exactly.
18:00That's it.
18:01We love you.
18:02See you, honey.
18:03I love you.
18:04Over at house three, the floor is going down.
18:08So far, plumber Ricky and IT manager Hayden
18:11are embracing the block chaos.
18:14You're a long way from the keyboard now, mate.
18:16That's why I sent these keyboard hands, mate.
18:19Putting to good use.
18:20Yeah, I was in the middle of organising the plasterer.
18:24Cool.
18:25All right.
18:26Yep, good to go.
18:27And then my phone rang, and it was the wife, Chelsea.
18:30Oh, the wife, perfect.
18:33Hi, bubs.
18:34Hi, bubs.
18:35How are you?
18:36I'm good.
18:37I just have to go to the hospital for some monitoring.
18:40Sophie thinks I'm in early labour.
18:44Right-o.
18:46My head was absolutely spinning when I got that call
18:48because I had a million things running through my head
18:50about what we're trying to do, and I'm on the block,
18:52and I'm at Phillip Island.
18:53I'm a million miles away.
18:54Well, not a million miles away, but a good couple,
18:56two, three hours, and she's sitting in the hospital.
19:00Odin and his wife, Chelsea,
19:02have been trying to get pregnant for almost 10 years with IVF.
19:06Last year, we decided to give it one more round,
19:09put the last embryo that we had in,
19:11and we'd given up.
19:15Ricky had his birthday, and...
19:17Huge party.
19:18Huge party. It was a good party.
19:19Good party.
19:20And then I think it was probably six weeks later,
19:23bang, pregnant.
19:26Wow.
19:27All right.
19:28That's a bit sooner than we thought.
19:31Yeah, a little bit.
19:32Well, I was waterproof on Wednesday,
19:34and now it's water breaking Wednesday.
19:36It's all happening.
19:44Scotty rocked up.
19:45Scotty rocked up in the big Ford F-150 and said...
19:49I'm going to be an uncle.
19:51Uncle Scotty.
19:54Let's get you to the chopper.
19:55Please, brother. I need to get there.
19:57So I had to leave Ricky on site.
19:58Mate.
19:59All right. Love you, brother.
20:01Appreciate it, man.
20:03Let's go, mate.
20:04All right, let's go, brother.
20:05Fly safely, Scotty.
20:07Good luck, Adam.
20:08Cheers.
20:09Good luck, mate.
20:10Actually, good luck.
20:11Good luck for you too.
20:12Is it actually happening?
20:14He's going to the hospital.
20:15Go, go, go.
20:17See you guys. I'll be back.
20:20We're having a baby.
20:22Hey, Frankie.
20:23So Scotty took me to a helipad,
20:27and he's flying me direct back to Melbourne
20:30to get to Chelsea ASAP.
20:32All right, get in there.
20:33See you later, champion.
20:34Take it easy.
20:35Thanks, Scotty.
20:36Appreciate it, mate.
20:37Get going.
20:38All right, I'm off.
20:39I'm out.
20:40I've got to go have a baby.
20:43Cheers, mate.
20:44You got this, man.
20:45You got this.
20:46Breathe, brother.
20:47You got it.
20:48Breathe, man.
20:52Let's rock and roll, Jonathan.
20:54Woo!
20:55Party on.
21:00Yes!
21:01Woo!
21:04He's gone.
21:09I can barely even breathe on the block.
21:11I can't even organise one thing before I lose my team mate.
21:14All right, let's go have a baby.
21:15Come on, let's go.
21:16All right.
21:17I'm pumped.
21:18That's a pretty wild thing to happen on waterproof Wednesday.
21:23After the break, competition heats up.
21:27Woo!
21:28What?
21:29It just became a $140,000 win.
21:34I feel sick.
21:35If you win week one, you are pretty much set to win the block.
21:40And later...
21:41You need to find some sort of compromise for me.
21:43I've got to go.
21:44I've got to go.
21:45I've got to go.
21:46I've got to go.
21:47Find some sort of compromise for me.
21:48I've been nothing but accommodating for you.
21:50Paige is on the wall path.
21:53I can't.
21:54I actually can't accept it.
21:55I cannot accept it.
21:56It's less than five days until the blockhead's first bathroom reveal.
22:18And in house four, plumber and sparky Brad and hairdresser Kylie are feeling the pressure.
22:25I know that it's waterproofing Wednesday and we're nowhere near close to that.
22:29So we are a day behind.
22:34Yeah, Brad feels like there's a lot of pressure on him because he is a dual tradie.
22:38So literally a bathroom is plumbing and electrical.
22:42So everyone would have been like, ooh, they're the threat.
22:44But we'd really drop the ball.
22:49F***ed about on that one.
22:50Yeah.
22:51A hundred percent.
22:52Hello.
22:53Scotty.
22:54We got a visit from Scotty.
22:56He definitely had some things to say.
22:59The hard truth.
23:00Hard truth.
23:01How are you going?
23:02You tell us how we're going.
23:04Come on.
23:05Not well.
23:06Not well at all.
23:07We'd like to be a lot further ahead.
23:08Definitely Monday was a disaster.
23:10Yeah, I guess it comes down to planning.
23:12It was the planning.
23:13Yeah.
23:14Yeah.
23:15So that is the problem.
23:16Now, I'm concerned for you guys.
23:18I do not want you to not finish on the first week.
23:21You've got to go.
23:22It'd look pretty bad, wouldn't it?
23:24You guys have got to go a thousand miles an hour.
23:28You've got to go to your drop.
23:29Yeah.
23:30And then wake up tomorrow morning and do it again.
23:32Do it all over again, yeah.
23:33And that's literally the block.
23:34The block, yeah.
23:35So I'm patting you on the back, right, because I know it's week one,
23:38but you just need to lift.
23:39Do more.
23:40Do more.
23:41Yeah.
23:42Like heaps more.
23:43Yeah.
23:44So that kind of gave us a bit of a boot up the bum.
23:46Yeah, we already knew we had a lot to do.
23:48Yeah.
23:49We just haven't had a chance to really crack into it.
23:54The House 2 married couple, Courtney and Grant,
23:57have a clear vision for the design of their bathroom this week.
24:01Moderterranean.
24:02Moderterranean.
24:03Yeah.
24:04Modern Mediterranean.
24:05You know, some curves, organic shapes.
24:08Natural materials.
24:09Natural materials.
24:13House 2's moderterranean bathroom
24:15will feature statement travertine finger tiles.
24:18On the left, they'll have an enclosed shower and toilet,
24:21and the hero of the space will be the curved wall
24:24between their bath and vanity.
24:29But when foreman Dan and site manager G-Mac
24:32stop by to inspect the framing for the curve, there's an issue.
24:36It's going to be under tension and then it has no support in the bottom.
24:40Someone kicks it, it breaks.
24:41What G's saying is he wants solid blocking right to the edge.
24:44Yeah, yeah, so as soon as you start turning.
24:47To get the wall approved,
24:48House 2 need to add more blocks of timber to the true core framing
24:53on either side of the curve
24:55to create a solid backing for the plasterboard to sit on.
25:00This bloody curve, mate.
25:02It's hurting here, isn't it?
25:03Oh, that's the first thick up it's thrown.
25:07So, yeah, we're behind where I want it to be.
25:09It'll probably be waterproof Thursday afternoon.
25:12Yeah.
25:13Over at House 5, Sparky Christian and restaurant manager Mimi
25:17are ahead of the game.
25:19I feel great.
25:21House 5 has good vibes.
25:23I'm competitive, so it does feel good to be in front of the pack.
25:27We really tried to push to get waterproof Wednesday,
25:31so for us to do that, we had our chippies.
25:34Doing this floor, constantly getting Dan.
25:36Hey, check, is this right?
25:38That's foreman Dan.
25:40Yeah, that's right. That's perfect.
25:42It's probably the best floor we've seen, to be honest.
25:44Well done, mate.
25:46At this stage, we're trying to get the plasterers to finish
25:50plastering all of our walls before it cools down,
25:53which was insane.
25:55The plasterers were in.
25:57Our chippies were in.
25:58They were all helping each other.
25:59It was chaos in there.
26:01And, you know, we went for that final check.
26:04What's going on here?
26:05And there was something wrong with the plaster, right?
26:07Yeah.
26:08It wasn't, like, screwed down.
26:09Screwed down properly.
26:10I'm like, oh, no.
26:11Quickly fix that.
26:16OK.
26:17And me and Christian were just on the side, like,
26:19is this going to happen?
26:20Is this going to happen?
26:25Yeah, nice.
26:26Everything's good for waterproofing.
26:27All good to go.
26:28All good.
26:30You'll be the only one waterproofed.
26:31Oh, thank you.
26:32We made waterproof Wednesday,
26:35which is a massive achievement.
26:38We put this massive bar through.
26:42Righto.
26:43No more power tools.
26:45With House 5 the only team to make waterproof Wednesday,
26:48I've decided now would be a good time
26:50to dangle an enormous carrot
26:52in the hopes of spurring on a little healthy competition
26:56and getting everyone to push a bit harder.
27:03Come on in.
27:04Come on in.
27:05Take a seat.
27:07Day three on the block,
27:08I bet you feel like you've been here for a month.
27:10Yes.
27:11Three years.
27:12Now, let's get down to business.
27:13I would like you to meet a very great mate of mine, Rob Sinclair.
27:17He is the owner of E&S Trading.
27:20We are very lucky he is supplying all of you
27:23with your appliances for your Kingsman kitchens and laundries.
27:28Give him a round of applause.
27:32Yeah, baby.
27:33Now, Rob is just not here to say g'day.
27:36He has a very big announcement to make as well.
27:40Rob, would you like to do the honours, my friend?
27:42It's going to be my pleasure.
27:43Yes, I'll give you a hand.
27:44Let's peel back the cover, eh?
27:45We're going backwards.
27:51That is a top-of-the-range wolf barbecue.
27:55The flashiest barbecue I've ever seen.
27:58I'm not really into barbecues.
27:59Yeah.
28:00But it was very impressive.
28:01It's that big, it provides shade.
28:02Wow.
28:03This thing was intimidating.
28:05It was beautiful.
28:08It was one of the greatest things I've ever seen.
28:22So, guys, this particular barbecue
28:24is 140 centimetres of cooking pleasure on the surface.
28:27You've got the infrared rotisserie at the back.
28:29Hey, Rob, how much does that rotisserie hold?
28:3211 kilograms, Scotty.
28:33Wow.
28:34Yes.
28:37Oh, stop it.
28:39It's an extraordinary product from the guys at Wolf.
28:41Now, what is this barbie going to set me back, mate?
28:45Well, Scotty, for 30 grand,
28:47you'll be able to have this beauty in your home.
28:50Thanks to Rob and E&S Trading,
28:52the winner of this week's room...
28:55Oh, no way.
28:56..will get this barbecue to put in their backyard.
28:59Love it.
29:00I'll be honest,
29:01I've never wanted to win something more in my life.
29:03Now, are you enjoying the chairs that you're sitting on?
29:06Yes!
29:07They are Camerich, one of the great furniture stores.
29:10And guess what?
29:12Camerich also have a prize for this week's room winner.
29:18$100,000 worth of Camerich furniture.
29:22What?!
29:24Huh?
29:25So, that means this week,
29:27you're not only playing for $10,000 from Ford,
29:31it just became a $140,000 week.
29:36I feel sick.
29:39Let's just manifest winning this week.
29:42Are you closing your eyes?
29:44No.
29:45Oh, OK.
29:46If you win week one, Mike,
29:48you are pretty much set to win the block.
29:56MUSIC PLAYS
30:07Time.
30:08It's the early hours of Thursday morning
30:10when House 3's Ricky is still busy working in his bathroom.
30:14As much as I tried my hardest
30:16to make Waterproofing happen on Wednesday,
30:18it just didn't happen.
30:20But what I'm learning on the block
30:22is that I've got to be able to adapt
30:25and it's not always going to go to plan.
30:30Ricky certainly wasn't planning on team-mate Hayden's wife, Chelsea,
30:34going into labour yesterday,
30:36leaving him alone on the block and with double the workload.
30:40I was insulating, I was working by myself,
30:42trying to get ahead, and H called me.
30:45And he had news that his baby girl was born.
30:50You just cut the cord.
30:52Yeah.
30:53Wow.
30:55So you did the scissoring.
30:59Chelsea's doing great.
31:01Baby's doing fantastic.
31:03Wow.
31:04What's her name?
31:06Matilda Maywise.
31:08Matilda Maywise.
31:10Wow.
31:12Wild experience holding her for the first time.
31:16Absolutely wild.
31:19Yeah, coming into my arms and a little bundle of joy
31:23and my life changed instantly at that moment.
31:36I've been longing for this forever.
31:38So the best feeling in my life ever.
31:42You've done it all this week.
31:44From IT guru to renovation expert to designing specialist
31:49to now you're helping deliver babies.
31:53I'm so happy, dude. I'm so happy for you.
31:56Love you, bro. I'll speak soon.
31:58See ya.
31:59You're best mates, you share that sort of emotion.
32:01You ride the highs and the lows together, right?
32:04So I was rapt for him. I was really, really happy for him.
32:08I'm a very proud godfather now.
32:10So now I'm going to do a little Tilly Proud and H Proud
32:13and I'm going to get this bathroom done.
32:15And Ricky isn't the only one with an extra fire in his belly
32:18this morning after I announced last night
32:21that there's $140,000 worth of prizes up for grabs on Sunday.
32:28Massive barbecue.
32:30$30,000 wolf barbecue for landscape week.
32:34And then $100,000 worth of Cambridge furniture.
32:41That will furnish your entire house.
32:44Plus $10,000 from Ford.
32:46That's $140,000 a week.
32:49I've never seen a prize this big before.
32:53In week one.
32:57How badly do you want to win?
32:58Pretty badly. I want to win pretty badly.
33:00We're pretty competitive.
33:02You just want to do it for yourself and win
33:05and just be like, OK, we did that.
33:07And then we can be proud of it.
33:09I'm sure everyone feels the same.
33:10No-one's going to say, nah,
33:11I actually feel like losing this week.
33:13You know what I mean?
33:15And with their bathroom currently the furthest along,
33:18Christian and Mimi are definitely in with a good chance this week.
33:22The only team that waterproofed Wednesday has passed.
33:25Yeah!
33:26You're the only team that did it.
33:27Well done, team.
33:28Ticket gold.
33:29Ticket gold.
33:31Over at house four and after a very slow start to the week,
33:35Kylie and Brad have lifted their game
33:37and their bathroom is now in much better shape.
33:41We finally got our sign off on our subframe.
33:45The flooring's gone on.
33:47The walls are up.
33:49Beautiful.
33:50All good.
33:51Let's sheet it.
33:52Let's sheet it.
33:53Come on.
33:54Let's go.
33:55Thanks, Dan.
33:56So we're looking now to start plastering the walls
34:00so we can start waterproofing.
34:02Waterproofing by two-ish?
34:04By 130.
34:05130.
34:06Locke's biggest comeback this room.
34:08Yeah, we've caught up.
34:10We may not even have to do anything Sunday.
34:13Saturday night we'll just be like...
34:14I love your optimism.
34:16In house one, after a rocky day yesterday,
34:19Jessie and Paige have also turned a corner
34:22and are feeling much more confident.
34:24I woke up and I said,
34:26today's going to be a better day.
34:28Today's going to be the day that I, like,
34:30do everything I can to step up
34:32and try and help this team get over the line.
34:34I'm just hungry to deliver a beautiful room
34:37each and every week and win.
34:38I just want to win.
34:40That's why I'm here, to win.
34:41Things are going good.
34:42This is the best day ever.
34:43This is so good.
34:44The boys are ****** on.
34:45Let's go!
34:48Are you here to win, Paige?
34:50I'm always out to win.
34:52Always.
34:53Whether that's just beating him across the road.
34:56I try to win.
34:58I do.
35:00But win fairly.
35:01I do.
35:03With their tradies going full steam ahead in their bathroom,
35:07this morning Paige is feeling so confident
35:09that she's decided to make some changes
35:12to the floor plan of their house.
35:15Yeah.
35:18I wanted to speak to Dan first thing
35:20because Jessie and I were up planning all night.
35:24I had some really good ideas
35:26in regards to shaking up a few of the bedrooms,
35:29moving the master around.
35:31House 1's main bedroom is currently located on the ground floor.
35:35They want to split it in half to make two guest bedrooms.
35:39Then in the mezzanine,
35:40located on the other side of the house and upstairs,
35:43they'll turn the guest bedroom and rumpus into their main suite.
35:48So you're not deleting your bedroom,
35:49you're just shifting everything around.
35:50No, we're just shifting.
35:51If you can just draw the top as well,
35:54I'll get photos of both
35:55and then send it straight off to the architect.
35:57Okay.
35:58Thank you!
35:59I think we've come up with a really, really good floor plan
36:02and I am so hopeful
36:04because I'm so passionate about these changes.
36:08If we can make it work, I will be your best friend.
36:11I'll get you coffee every morning.
36:13Yeah, thank you.
36:14Whatever you want.
36:15It's not up to me, but I'm the middle person.
36:17Okay.
36:18I shouldn't actually get my hopes up too much,
36:21but I'm going to be positive.
36:24I'm going to ask the universe to let me change my floor plans.
36:28Everyone, I'm actually changing them.
36:31That's how I'm going to speak.
36:33I'm just waiting for approval
36:36because they're going to be changed.
36:38Coming up, the universe turns against Paige.
36:42Can you imagine selling this house?
36:45I know.
36:46I respect him, obviously,
36:48because he's a great, accomplished architect.
36:52But I actually don't give a **** about his opinion
36:55because it's so different to mine.
36:58I don't give a ****.
37:09With only four days until reveal,
37:11the Blockheads are working hard in their main bathrooms.
37:16And in house three,
37:17with teammate Hayden still off-site with his newborn baby,
37:21Ricky is forging ahead solo.
37:24Yeah, that's good now.
37:27So your plasterers will be in next.
37:29You'll be waterproofing after midday, 1 o'clock, Oregon.
37:33I really want to make sure that I do Hayden proud
37:35and prove that I do have what it takes
37:37to get this bathroom going on the line.
37:39But he's definitely left me for dead.
37:42I definitely could have maybe talked to the missus
37:44to maybe put the baby off for one more week
37:46because I would have liked to maybe not tackle this alone first week.
37:52But, look, it's his family, it's his life, and it's my block,
37:55so here's what it is.
38:02When you're building a house in just 12 weeks,
38:04you need to start making big decisions from week one.
38:08So today our teams have met with Kingsman
38:10to finalise the design for the wardrobes
38:13in all their upcoming bedrooms
38:15as they need to go into production tomorrow.
38:20Hello!
38:21Hi, how are you? I'm Morgan from Kingsman.
38:23Mimi, nice to meet you.
38:24Lovely to meet you.
38:25I'm Morgan.
38:26Morgan and the whole Kingsman team, they were super helpful.
38:29I think I might have a really good door for you to use.
38:33It is brand new.
38:34Oh, my God, it's new.
38:35Yes.
38:36Lock it in.
38:37I'm a quick decider, so it was like, yes, yes, yes, yes.
38:39It is really nice.
38:41Oh, what?
38:42It's easy to clean.
38:43It makes you feel like there's texture in the room,
38:45and we have this border as well.
38:47Yeah, it was a good appointment.
38:49They had all their samples there, boom, boom, boom.
38:51And the internal oak as well.
38:54I think so, yeah.
38:55I want to continue the American oak,
38:57and then we also brought in, like, an ivory leather.
39:00I think that's really nice.
39:02It'll look beautiful.
39:03As long as there's just one row of shelving,
39:07just perfectly designed for Jordan.
39:10Um, yeah.
39:12You've got this nice new one that we've got as well,
39:15which is nice and thin.
39:16Had all these amazing accessories.
39:19They have this really cool terrazzo-slash-marble
39:23black-and-white handle, and I was like, done.
39:26Like, throw that in, sorted.
39:28Perfect.
39:29That handle?
39:30Easy.
39:31How beautiful do you think your wardrobes are going to look?
39:33They're going to look amazing.
39:34Absolutely.
39:35Of course they are.
39:36I selected them.
39:40Hi!
39:41Hi, how are you?
39:42I'm Morgan.
39:43I'm Paige.
39:44Lovely to meet you.
39:45It's so nice to meet you.
39:46Come sit down.
39:47I'm so excited.
39:48We went to the Kinsman consult,
39:51and we had a lucid idea
39:55that the floor plans were going to be changed.
39:57Just less than an hour ago,
39:59Jessie and Paige approached Foreman Dan
40:01with the idea to change their floor plans,
40:04so they don't currently have the final measurements
40:06for their proposed plan,
40:08which is going to make it hard
40:09to complete their consult with Kinsman.
40:12And so I was explaining that to Kinsman.
40:14It was a...
40:15It was an icy response.
40:17The floor plan is currently in works of changing.
40:22Yep, and you are knowing
40:24that we're putting this into manufacturing,
40:26so if those measurements go wrong, it's not going to fit.
40:29Yes, it will not.
40:30I fully, 100% understand that.
40:33House One's plan is to relocate their main bedroom
40:36to the mezzanine level on the other side of the house,
40:39where a guest bedroom and rumpus is currently planned.
40:43And they'll split the current main bedroom in half
40:46to create two smaller bedrooms.
40:48How badly do you want to get these floor plan changes
40:51over the line?
40:52So badly.
40:54Like, it's actually just... if we don't.
40:57It's just, it doesn't make sense,
40:59the way that it's been constructed.
41:02There were so many better options of a floor plan.
41:05It's bizarre.
41:07Uh, this is awkward,
41:09because who should be stopping by McCafe
41:11but the man responsible for the floor plan,
41:14international award-winning architect Julian Brinchley.
41:17Hi.
41:18How are you going?
41:20I couldn't help overhearing a little design change.
41:23Yes.
41:24Um, and did you speak to Julian Brinchley?
41:27Did he talk to you?
41:28We did.
41:29Yeah.
41:30What did he say?
41:31What's the plan?
41:32This is what the plan is.
41:33We would love to put master upstairs.
41:35Ooh, OK.
41:36So, um, have you guys got kids?
41:39No.
41:40OK, so, um, are you planning to have kids?
41:43Did anyone...?
41:44Yeah.
41:45OK, so how far do you think parents would want to sleep?
41:48Honestly, it's always 50-50 when you think of a two-storey house.
41:51You ask one person and they go,
41:53I would love to have a master upstairs,
41:55and then you ask maybe predominantly dads,
41:57and they're like, no, I like to be downstairs,
41:59protect the household.
42:00Maybe it's different over in Victoria,
42:02but people in WA don't want to be near their kids.
42:07They do, but...
42:08Do they?
42:09There's a number of reasons, but, I mean,
42:11though I wouldn't do it,
42:12and a number of reasons why we drew it.
42:14Being upstairs-downstairs is one thing,
42:16but being completely on the other side of the house is one thing,
42:20so it's quite a big distance.
42:21Like, in a house of this size, you try and have a family,
42:25if you like, close together,
42:26and then your guests would be separate.
42:28Yep.
42:29So that they wouldn't be part of the sort of private space of a house.
42:33Just complete opposites, opposite opinions.
42:36He told me that he loves to be close to his family.
42:40Can't relate.
42:41He pretty much said he completely disagreed with our idea.
42:45Yep.
42:46If you're adamant on it...
42:47I'm 100% adamant, but I'd really like to...
42:49I'm the other way around.
42:50OK, that's fine.
42:51You know, so I think that, you know, good luck with it.
42:54Thank you, I appreciate that.
42:55I think you're probably not on the right track.
42:58No stress.
42:59OK, cool, all right.
43:00Thank you for the advice, Julian.
43:01Good luck with it, OK?
43:03Cheers.
43:04So where does that leave us with plans, then?
43:06Same.
43:09Are you still going with the changes?
43:11Yes.
43:13Just because I was anticipating someone to try and change my mind.
43:17And I just... Honestly, I just have different opinions.
43:20Can we... I've got to go, so can we, like, try and figure...
43:23Where do you think you're doing the road?
43:25Well...
43:27It's just going to go here, and here's the door.
43:30While Paige remains steadfast in her decision,
43:32Morgan from Kingsman begins working out the measurements
43:35for the two bedrooms that will be created downstairs
43:38in place of the main bedroom.
43:40Something Paige hadn't done yet.
43:43Take the measurements of a stud wall out of it.
43:45You've got about 2.6.
43:47A queen bed is about 1,600.
43:50Yeah.
43:51So there's 500mm, which is that, each side of that bed,
43:54if you put it on that.
43:56And that's not enough to open those doors.
43:59Everything's just got a blow-on effect.
44:01You've got to make sure that there's enough room for bed tables.
44:04This is what we did last night.
44:06I'm just... What we didn't do is have proper sizes.
44:09Like, I don't want to make this decision
44:11and then our bedrooms are really small, do you know what I mean?
44:14But I am not going to be hard-balled.
44:16Should we just stay up for four hours going through plans
44:19and then throw it out the window because someone else has an opinion?
44:22No, I'm not doing it because of someone else.
44:24I'm just trying to think, like, methodically,
44:27because this can impact us.
44:29I love your idea. I really love it.
44:31No... And I agree with you.
44:33And I would love to do what you're going to do.
44:35My only thought, which I think will affect us,
44:38is we're going to regret how small these rooms are.
44:45Jessie is concerned that if they split the current main bedroom in two,
44:49once wardrobes are in and with two windows in each room,
44:53there's not much space left for furniture.
44:56So, House One's wardrobe consult is at a standstill.
45:00There was a lot of pressure.
45:02There was a lot of faces behind the camera.
45:05It was eye rolls, it was huffing and puffing.
45:08I'm just sick of the way everyone talks to me in meetings like this.
45:11And it was just the energy was super off.
45:15Mate, you make the call because I'm sick of being in these appointments.
45:20We're not content with this.
45:22Can you just stay chill, please? No, we're switching.
45:25You can't? OK.
45:30All right. I don't know what to do here.
45:32What am I choosing? Don't get me wrong.
45:34I definitely felt dramatic.
45:36I felt the drama. I was the drama.
45:39I was.
45:41That's how I felt it. I stormed off.
45:44Week one.
45:47Can you give us ten minutes, please? Yeah, easy.
45:52I love your plan, but I just don't think it's going to work.
45:56This is actually...
45:58We can't do what we want to do.
46:01But you're going to have to, like, really find it.
46:03I can't. I actually can't accept it. You can.
46:05I cannot accept it.
46:08You need to find some sort of compromise for me.
46:10I've been nothing but accommodating for you.
46:12I get that. Find it for me.
46:14I've been nothing but accommodating for you.
46:16I'm not doing anything wrong, and they're talking to me like assholes.
46:20I know that.
46:21I don't know why people have to be rude.
46:37It's day four of the block,
46:39and now our teams are renovating an island resort
46:42and quickly learning that this is no vacation.
46:46With six o'clock tools down approaching,
46:49Foreman Dan has just noticed a big issue in Court Ingram's bathroom.
46:55Oh, dear.
46:57Basically, we were on track
46:59to have all the sheeting and plastering approved
47:04and ready for waterproofing,
47:06but there was an issue
47:08regarding the installation of our shower screen channel.
47:11So that one threw a spanner in the works.
47:14What's up, sir? I've joined in.
47:16All the way, this channel's installed?
47:18Yeah.
47:19So this is your shower?
47:20Yep.
47:21And that's the rest of the world?
47:26House 2's builders installed the shower screen channel
47:29before the villa board sheets went up,
47:31so it's currently sitting between two sheets,
47:34small gaps on either side.
47:36Instead, they should have put the villa board up first
47:39and then installed the channel on top of it
47:41to make sure it's watertight.
47:43That has to be all taken off and redone.
47:47Then you're gonna have to re-sheet it so it's solid behind,
47:50and then this goes over the top of the villa board.
47:56House 2 now need to rip the majority of the villa board off their walls
48:00and then put it back up,
48:01with the shower channel in the correct position.
48:05And with it already close to tools down on Thursday afternoon,
48:08they need to do it quickly
48:10if they want any hope of waterproofing tonight.
48:13We're gonna be further behind.
48:15It is frustrating.
48:17It's **** frustrating, definitely.
48:20I feel like every time we've had a bit of momentum,
48:23we've had a bit of a step back.
48:27But that's the block, right?
48:28So we've gotta just work with what we've got,
48:30with the timeframes we got.
48:32Can't even get any more people in there.
48:34It's too tight.
48:35Right now, I'm like, wow, it's Friday tomorrow,
48:38and the bathroom doesn't look like a bathroom.
48:41That makes me nervous.
48:43Yeah, there's just a lot to do.
48:45A lot to do.
48:46Ah, all this ****.
48:53Next door in House 1, Paige is keeping busy
48:56after storming out of her wardrobe consult with Kingsman.
49:00It's better than sitting in that Kingsman stupid consultation.
49:03This morning, Paige was excited
49:05about the prospect of changing the floor plan of her house,
49:08but architect Julian Brenchley feels the changes are a bad idea.
49:13Probably not on the right track.
49:15Because there's no measurements,
49:16Kingsman also can't lock off their wardrobe plans
49:19and put them into production.
49:22Paige, what's going on?
49:25Just raging, internally and externally.
49:29It's just like you go into these consultations
49:33and I have no idea why, like, no-one's polite.
49:36So it's not even, like, a problem of, like, the planning and everything.
49:42Like, you can have open discussions,
49:45you can have differing opinions,
49:47but, like, just don't talk like an arsehole.
49:49Paige has left fiancé Jesse to continue the consult without her.
49:54My partner's feeling really disrespected.
49:56I just think she's feeling like she's being looked at
49:59like she's an idiot, and she's not.
50:02I just need to back up my partner
50:03because she's feeling super disrespected and I can't.
50:06And we're happy to support you in that.
50:09Understand from our perspective,
50:11we've got to try and pull everything together
50:13so we can provide it on the time and complete it accordingly.
50:18It's not our intention to make it even harder.
50:21If anything, it's to assist.
50:24The problem is it's very hard to make decisions
50:26when there's no set plan.
50:28We need to know what's happening with it.
50:30We need to know the spaces, we need to know the sizes
50:33to be able to put something together.
50:35Yeah, and I understand that.
50:37It's just, um...
50:39Yeah, we're just a bit stuck.
50:41Jesse needs to convince Paige to change her mind
50:44and revert back to Julian Brenschley's original floor plan.
50:48Archie's still reeling from his earlier comments.
50:51You're adamant on it?
50:52I'm 100% adamant, but I'd really like to...
50:55I'm the other way around.
50:56OK, that's fine.
50:57You know.
50:58No stress.
50:59OK, cool.
51:00I respect him, obviously,
51:02cos he's a great, accomplished architect,
51:04but I actually don't give a f*** about his opinion
51:07cos it's so different to mine.
51:09It's not his house.
51:10Exactly.
51:11Who the f*** wants to sleep next to their kids?
51:16I...I...
51:17Who?
51:18I don't know.
51:19Who?
51:20Like, he can think I'm backwards, but I think he's backwards.
51:23I also kind of understand what he's saying,
51:25but I agree with you more. I don't.
51:28But, unfortunately, the rooms are going to be 2.6 wide.
51:32That's tiny, honey.
51:33We can't do that in a house like this.
51:35It's just too small, my love. It's too small.
51:38Fine. Well, I actually don't want to work on something.
51:41We're going to... I know.
51:43Can you imagine f***ing selling this house?
51:46I know. I know.
51:48I don't want to f***ing can it because we actually have to sell it.
51:51I know.
51:52Once you include the robes
51:54and you kind of break the master into two rooms,
51:57the rooms just become quite small.
51:59I still don't agree.
52:01I still don't agree, no.
52:03She doesn't agree, but I just didn't want to make that sacrifice.
52:06Can we just... Can you just come over for a bit
52:08and just see if we can push on?
52:09Fine.
52:10All right, let's just go be a carbon copy of every other house.
52:15You want to sit down?
52:16No, I don't want to be here too long.
52:18Well, I need you... We kind of need to be in this together, honey.
52:21Please.
52:22OK.
52:23Just for you. Only for you.
52:25Now, your master.
52:27You've got 1,100 inside,
52:29which is actually bigger than what it would have been upstairs.
52:32That doesn't make me any more happier.
52:34We could have made it work.
52:38We could have.
52:39I could have made it work.
52:41Yeah, I don't believe so, but that's all right.
52:44That's OK. You can think that.
52:53Tomorrow night...
52:54Hurry up, dude!
52:56It's like watching paint dry.
52:58Slow Tyler puts the brakes on House 5.
53:01We have to get this bathroom done.
53:03And if you can't do it by yourself by 8 o'clock tonight,
53:05we're in trouble.
53:06Also, Ricky releases his inner stylist.
53:10Good go.
53:12The styling, it's the icing on the cake,
53:14so it's a massive responsibility.
53:16Like, this is... Yeah, that's awesome.
53:19I'm nailing this.
53:21And when the judges come Sunday,
53:23they're not seeing eye to eye.
53:25I don't want to come to Phillip Island and be in Melbourne.
53:28It can't be canary yellow.
53:30What? Just white. It's enough.
53:32This is going to be possibly the biggest disaster
53:36we've seen in 20 seasons.
53:38Ooh, horns are going to lock on this one.
