00:00Fellow countrymen, to give us the latest information about this, we will talk to the spokesperson of DOH, Assistant Secretary Albert Domingo.
00:11Sir, good morning to all of you. This is Audrey with Dian Carrera.
00:18Good morning to all the listeners and those listening to us.
00:22Asset, how is the state of the country's fight against dengue?
00:28Are there places that have declared a state of calamity?
00:31And other provinces, have their cases increased?
00:36Yes, Audrey, I will give you the data.
00:39From January 1 to August 3, January 1 to August 3, 2024, a total of 136,161, 136161 dengue cases were recorded.
00:53This is 33% higher compared to 102,374, that's 102,374 dengue cases recorded in the same period in 2023.
01:08We can see that and we know that this is also a consequence of our rainfall, because of the accumulation of water.
01:16That's why we really need to clean up.
01:18Now, Audrey and Dian, the declarations of outbreaks and hotspots, it's better to ask the local governments
01:25because according to our country, it's their duty to declare.
01:29Every year, when it rains here in our country, the number of cases of dengue increases.
01:37What are the new strategies of the Department to mitigate these cases?
01:46Our strategy, Audrey and Dian, is still to avoid the outbreak of dengue.
01:52Why do we have dengue?
01:54Because there are more mosquitoes.
01:56If there are more mosquitoes, there will be mosquitoes.
01:59Where do they lay eggs and where do they live?
02:01In the water that is being collected and cleaned.
02:04If we see water that is being collected there and we don't cover it, we know that dengue will come out.
02:11Throw away all the collected water that is not being used and make sure that our environment is clean.
02:17There's a report that the Department of Health is adding more wards for dengue cases. Is this correct, Asec?
02:26Our ward is already prepared because we know that this is the current situation, Audrey.
02:33What's important here in dengue, Audrey and Dian,
02:37if we consult our doctor earlier, the fever, headache, and back pain,
02:47those are the typical symptoms of dengue.
02:50If we see blood in the armpits or the armpits, it is possible that it has advanced.
02:57The earlier we seek consultation, the better.
03:00Because it means that it won't take long for us to go to the hospital.
03:05Or sometimes, you might not need to go to the hospital.
03:09Asec, good morning to you. This is Dian Quirer.
03:11Regarding the state of calamity, you've mentioned a while ago that it's better to ask the LGU.
03:16But does the DOH have a recommendation on when an LGU should declare a state of calamity when it comes to dengue cases, Asec?
03:25Dian, according to Republic Act 11332, this recommendation is given to the chief executive.
03:31And according to the law, it is their prerogative to declare.
03:35All right. I'm different, Asec, when it comes to leptospirosis.
03:39What is the latest update on the cases that have been reported regarding this?
03:44Regarding leptospirosis, from January 1st to August 3rd of this year,
03:49we have reported 2,115 cases of leptospirosis in our country.
03:57We have seen the numbers.
03:59What is important for now is whether there are cases from the previous storm.
04:04If we look at the week from July 21st to August 3rd,
04:12that's the week when Karina got infected, July 24th.
04:17The number of cases is 255 compared to the previous week from July 7th to July 20th,
04:27so July 7 to 22-17.
04:29It increased by 38 plus 38, 17 percent higher.
04:35Do we still have all of them?
04:38Not yet, because there are cases that we can see in our hospitals
04:42that their data has a one-week processing.
04:45When we say processing, not all of the symptoms that look like lepto are lepto.
04:50They may have dengue, influenza.
04:54So we have a delay, but our data is catching up.
04:59As of Sunday, have you received reports or monitored
05:03that some of the hospitals are already full because of the cases of leptospirosis?
05:08Yes, our data is ongoing.
05:12That's the so-called operational data.
05:15We will know how many people are already hospitalized in Metro Manila.
05:21What we usually see in the news
05:25is the National Kidney and Transplant Institute and San Lazaro Hospital.
05:29But what the Department of Health is doing is moving the patients
05:34to vacant beds in other hospitals.
05:37That's what we're talking about.
05:40I will give you the telephone number for our doctors and patients with lepto.
05:45Before going to the hospital, it's better to call 8531-0037 or 0920-283-2758
05:56so we can know where the vacant beds are.
05:59Let's not rush.
06:01As of Sunday, what are the last things you want to remind our countrymen
06:05regarding dengue and leptospirosis?
06:08If they are experiencing symptoms, where can they go to get help?
06:14Yes, Jiane.
06:16During this rainy season, our wild diseases are increasing.
06:22We are already talking about lepto and dengue,
06:25and also about waterborne and influenza-like illness.
06:28But let's focus on lepto and dengue.
06:31Lepto is caught in floodwater.
06:33We should avoid it if possible.
06:35If we cannot avoid getting caught in floodwater,
06:39consult a doctor within one to two days after being caught in floodwater,
06:44even if no one is feeling it,
06:46to give a free prescription and free doxycycline to government health centers
06:52so we can avoid our leptospirosis.
06:57As for dengue, we should clean if we cannot do it every day,
07:01we should do it weekly.
07:03We should clean our surroundings if there is a flood,
07:06that's where dengue comes from,
07:08and consult a doctor as soon as possible
07:10so that if we know that there is a disease or other symptoms,
07:13we can avoid it as soon as possible.
07:15Dr. Tut, thank you very much for the information you shared with us,
07:19Assistant Secretary Albert Domingo, the spokesperson of the Department.
07:23Thank you very much and good morning.
07:24Good morning to you too. Thank you, Asec.
