00:00U.S. electric car maker Tesla has abandoned its plans to build factories in Southeast
00:06Asia, including Malaysia.
00:12A Thai government source told The Nation that Tesla has scrapped plans to set up an electric
00:17vehicle factory everywhere except for China, America and Germany.
00:22The source also said Tesla will only discuss building charging stations for now, adding
00:26that the decision was part of Tesla's withdrawal of investments across Asia and beyond.
00:32It is understood that the team of executives leading Tesla's push into Southeast Asia last
00:37year has since been disbanded.
00:44Last year, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced large-scale investments from Tesla and SpaceX
00:49in Malaysia.
00:51Anwar also said Tesla would set up its Malaysian headquarters and service centres in Selangor.
