00:00The two-tier pricing system for the incoming RON95 petrol-targeted subsidy program should
00:07be linked to vehicle registrations instead of identity cards, said the Federation of
00:12Malaysian Consumers Associations.
00:15Formca's CEO, Saravanan Thambirajah, said linking subsidies with registered vehicle
00:20owners and integrating the system with MySujatra or other platforms could reduce fraud and
00:26streamline the process.
00:28Saravanan explained that there may be people misusing ICs belonging to others to obtain
00:34subsidized fuel, which could lead to fraudulent activities and exploitation.
00:39Saravanan also said IC verification might create bottlenecks during peak hours, which
00:44could lead to delays.
00:46Meanwhile, economist Raja Rasia from University Malaya said crooked purchasers could resell
00:52subsidized petrol at market prices to foreigners and those in the top 15% income bracket.
00:58He added that the T15 group can also use their drivers from lower-income groups to
01:03purchase subsidized fuel.
01:05On October 18, Transport Minister Lok Siu Fook said a proposal being discussed for the
01:10RON95 targeted subsidy program was for Malaysians to produce their MyCard at petrol stations
01:16to verify eligibility.
