00:0032 highway toll concessionaires will likely finance the construction of free-flow lanes
00:07at toll plazas, a source in the know says.
00:11The source said concessionaires would save more than RM1 billion, or at least 30% of
00:17the total cost, if they funded the initiative themselves.
00:21In 2023, concessionaires protested against the government's move to award a private
00:27company the multi-lane free-flow project for all highways in the country.
00:32Under MLFF, all exit and entry points on the highway will be converted into barrier-free
00:39lanes to reduce traffic congestion.
00:42The source told FMT that highway operators would test the system by introducing a single
00:48free-flow lane, which will still feature a barrier that would open much faster than the
00:54current radiofrequency identification lanes.
00:57The source said the barrier was needed to prevent leakages caused by non-paying motorists.
01:04Once the kinks are ironed out, the operators will proceed to remove the barriers and implement
01:10the MLFF system in full.
