00:00i have a general sports question i was going to ask the room and it relates to the nfl football
00:06baseball basketball hockey yes if you had your opportunity you could only win one
00:12would it be a championship in a team major american sport so a stanley cup or a gold medal
00:21if you can only have one because i've been watching this for some reason i'm more interested
00:25in the female volleyball but the men are playing here um but uh you know like if you could go to
00:31paris and you come home as the you know the the gold medalist in beach volleyball and you're the
00:38gold medalist for the rest of your life or you are on the red sox win the world you win a world
00:42series or a super bowl i'd rather win a world series super bowl stanley cup really champion
00:47yeah i think you know i mean you're winning for your country like but i just think maybe
00:55boston specific right the pride that you must feel when it's boston behind you i don't know
01:02i just because we have we've had olympians that are from here come home gold medalists and i think
01:08that fades like it's really cool when they first get back and they're going to be an olympian
01:13forever but if you win a stanley cup if you win a super bowl like those parades and everything
01:20that go into it i mean what do you think scotty shuffler would say if you asked him this morning
01:24i think i think the masters means more to him yeah he didn't bawl his eyes out at the masters
01:30he bawled his eyes out when hearing the national anthem yeah but he also walked away from the
01:34masters with like three million dollars and he's walking away from the gold medal with what like
01:3839 grand yeah but that's a different that's a different he already i mean that curtis is asking
01:42a different question i understand but i still think i i agree with courtney i think uh like a
01:47major team championship is way way more valuable to me personally than a gold medal would be i mean
01:54for the love of god they give gold medals to people who play table tennis like it is so
01:58there's so many sports in the olympics that like are useless to me that it is it's it's not even
02:05important anymore you diluted the product yeah i mean just to be clear someone who spends hours
02:15uh every week watching anime is uh describing table tennis in the olympics as useless yes
02:23greg they don't they don't they don't give gold medals for watching anime i'm not
02:27i'm not spending my life preparing for a moment in table tennis right i mean i would say let's
02:33maybe keep it to a sport you're interested in would you want to win a gold medal for the u.s
02:37hockey team or a stanley cup or you had a good question i mean for me i was surprised when i
02:43was talking to some friends about this this weekend like i feel like it's vastly in the
02:48side of courtney where and scheimer they want to win a team medal but the example i would give is
02:53michael rossioni and obviously that specific time in history what that meant you know the
03:00in the united states beating russia during the cold war like all of that but michael rossioni is
03:06far more famous for winning a gold medal than he ever would have been if he won a stanley cup
03:10like if you compare him to anybody on the bruins from 2011 michael rossioni
03:14is what what are we looking at 45 years later yeah he's still top of mind he's still at every
03:21celebrity golf tournament yeah you know winthrop's own i mean for me i would definitely if it was
03:26boston i would win a championship in boston any day of the week so you would prefer the whether
03:31it's stanley cup world series whatever you'd prefer that over a gold medal i just think the
03:35team component and what it means to you know work your whole life and then win something together as
03:41opposed to winning a gold medal every four years yeah i just look at it from the fandom point of
03:47view too right like i am a rabid fan when it comes to these teams winning a title like i was thrilled
03:53to the bone that the celtics won uh the the nba finals whereas like gold medals are fun and the
03:59olympics are fun to watch but i'm not on the edge of my seat constantly like oh come on you got to
04:04win this type of deal it's just not the same you're not impressed with what simone biles is doing no i
04:11think that's great and good for her and like it takes a lot of athleticism and that is a remarkable
04:16accomplishment but it's not again i'm not like on the edge of my seat rooting as hard as i possibly
04:22can for it it's just it's but it is much harder to do what simone miles did i mean that's a
04:26different question though right i'm just saying would i rather be an olympic gymnast or would i
04:31rather be you know on the celtics i'm taking the celtics every single day but that doesn't take
04:37away from what simone biles is doing is absolutely incredible right this is tim from long meadow
04:43what's up tim i well you guys you guys brought it up at miracle on ice i mean i just i'll never
04:49forget where i was that night i mean i was in college we were running around the track raising
04:54money raising funds for a spring trip and uh my buddy tom bork walked in and said uh
05:00well the the game is over the americans and russians uh how about did he give the no spoiler
05:06alert uh no no he didn't do it he did he said four three and we're like oh and he said we won
05:15and like everybody jumped a mile yeah but the other thing too is i mean back then you really
05:21it was the amateurs against the soviet empire really you know so i i agree you know now it's
05:27so professional it's not the same but i mean you know i i know i've taken the olympic medal over
05:35anything i've been it was a sham's point about uh the country versus boston i agree with courtney
05:40about boston's so cool but oh yeah definitely the olympic gold medal for me all day long
05:46yeah i mean that 1980 miracle on ice team was all amateurs they were going up the rush against the
05:53russians who were um you know had paid their players forever and so they were professional
05:59athletes and there was like a whole you know us versus russia thing which i guess is really not
06:07doesn't seem like it's a big factor now when people are watching the olympics like well also
06:12i think you just look at it look at how much how much the u.s dominates like it's just it's almost
06:17it's just expected i mean they have almost double the medals as the second place team it's that's
06:21just it's just kind of i don't know it's but i would say that it's kind of sad and i'm agreeing
06:28with courtney and shime so i'm not i'm putting myself in this is that i think we're the only
06:32country on earth that would pick that like no other like if you're in canada and you win a
06:37gold medal you are you would do that in a second over any title even a stanley cup i also think
06:43going back to miracle on ice to now it's a different time period i think people care more
06:49about the team uh championships here in the u.s than they did the back in you know the 80s and
06:56curtis i don't know if that's necessarily true because i i bet a lot of countries would rather
07:00win a world cup than win an olympic gold like the vast world that's the same i mean that's winning
07:07for your country we're talking about individual championships in a major team sport not you know
07:13winning the euro cup and in soccer i think it's the same thing like if you want a gold medal in
07:19the world cup it's the same you're doing it for argentina or brazil or whatever else all right
07:24great question curtis thank you
