00:00Wide you go to the athletic gives the tigers a minuses on these trades and elsewhere
00:05They're getting C's and D's and and it's being called our underwhelming return
00:10And I don't feel like this is a check plus for scott harris in this moment of time
00:16The snapshot of time that is right now. This feels like i'm gonna go with c work
00:22I think it is they did what they were supposed to do. They traded their rentals
00:27And i'm happy about that
00:29Last year, they didn't trade one of their rentals
00:32this year
00:33When a deal fell through with the yankees for flarity, which it's being reported that the yankees
00:38were
00:39We're going to be making a trade with the with the tigers or we're interested very interested in the tigers
00:44We're interested what the yankees had to guess what the yankees backed out because of the medicals according to reports
00:51This year harris had a plan b
00:53Last year with erod. He did not
00:56So i'm going to give it a c
00:57But I caution c's or a's or however you feel today
01:04Jv for daz cameron franklin perez and jake rogers back in september of 2017
01:10espn gave the tigers an a
01:14They got an a
01:15and in retrospect
01:18That's a three-pronger do we give a flying you know, what about that today?
01:24About the a they got nope on paper. It was called a win
01:29For the tigers to go get those three caliber prospects
01:35And
01:36Here we are seven years later, and I think we'd all give it an e in retrospect
01:41To move one of the great pitchers in tiger history
01:44for essentially
01:47You know a catcher
01:49Jake rogers is what he is david price for daniel norris matt boyd and hyrule abort
01:56Remember that I remember hyrule boy. I could not throw a strike the detroit tigers got a b plus for that
02:04Mostly inconsequential in the grand scheme of things
02:08The the on paper part of this trade I would not give an a
02:14But trades are trades are should be judged on what happens on the field
02:19and
02:20scott harris
02:22honestly his
02:23his legacy
02:25Isn't did he get an a?
02:29By the experts on the days he made trades his legacy is
02:34this dayron lo rezzano
02:36or
02:37montevallo the pitcher
02:40Or eric silva the pitcher trey sweeney the shortstop. Do these guys help the tigers win?
02:46And right now
02:48It feels like the probability of that is low
02:52Given what these players are ranked
02:55but at the end of the day
02:57The judgment that we want to do right now and we all want to do it including me and i'm doing it
03:02I'm giving them a c
03:04Is inconsequential to what actually happens on the field?
03:07uh, yeah, and I would
03:10I understand all that. Um, I think when you start the problem is none of us are scouts
03:15Right?
03:16We're not out there literally scouting players charting pitches and and ranking on the 20 to 80
03:23Scouting scale of the five tools and all that what we're doing at best is we're looking at statistics
03:29And trying to cobble together what that means maybe going back and even doing deeper dives looking at individual game logs and
03:35And looking at trends and stuff like that. Maybe you know how many layers on at bats I watched last night
03:41I'm, just saying this is what this is what people do. So they look at stats and then they compare it against others
03:46I think what set people off on the wrong foot
03:50Really was when you saw what houston got in return. Um,
03:54or I should say what houston gave up to to toronto and returned for a
03:59Kikuchi who's
04:01A far lesser pitcher than than jack flarity
04:04And at the time people got oh, that's a lot. They got i'm excited. What are they going to get for flarity, right?
04:09That's what that's what people were saying. What are they going to get for flarity? Yep
04:12and
04:13then they take jack flarity out of the
04:16The starting lineup on monday night and oh, that must mean something's afoot. Something's afoot
04:20Well, apparently something was afoot the yankees were interested and they had a deal and then the yankees reportedly backed out because of medical
04:26Concerns when okay, can I understand that? Yeah
04:30I can understand that jack. Flaherty just had a couple injections
04:33Even though he's made three starts since then and he's looked awfully good at that
04:37Since he's come back
04:39But you know if you're the yankees and you're talking about parting with with one of your better prospects
04:44Then you're probably going to say no and they did so he had a plan b. He learned from last year got the plan b
04:51but again
04:52If you depending what reports you look at it
04:55It didn't seem like that the plan this is more like a plan c like they they tried to get a plan b
04:59And then the dodgers backed out and i'm not sure how that all worked out
05:03And you know, the only people that really know are scott harris and the gm of the dodgers of what really went down
05:08but
05:09In the end when you get the players back and then you start comparing
05:13The players the tigers got back in that deal with the players that toronto got back in their deal
05:18Just by numbers statistically, it's underwhelming because it looks like toronto's players that got back were better
05:25But players are playing in different leagues in the minor leagues
05:28Scouts rate different players, you know differently. You just I don't know what to think
05:33I I again this is and i'm glad you brought up with the trade with the verlander trade that it yielded an a
05:38A trade grade from people and of course in reality, it's it's yielded nothing
05:44So we're not going to know for a while
05:48Um, we're going to do the thing we do which is evaluate it in the here and the now
05:52and acknowledge that our evaluations
05:54Are are go up in thin air the moment they're done because what matters is what happens on the field, right?
05:59And take this for what it's worth again
06:01It's more rankings and stuff like that
06:03But the four players that the tigers got yesterday at least the two players they got in the the chafin deal
06:08uh
06:09And the two players that they got or maybe it's one player in a chafin deal and then the canna deal
06:13uh
06:14And then the two players they got in the diners deal. They have four new additions to their top 30 in mlb pipeline
06:21And it's actually four in the four new additions in the top 25
06:24Is is where these these players go in silva checks in at 25 sweeney checks in at 24
06:29Uh montalvo checks in at 20 and in at number five is they run, uh, lorenzo
06:36So here's the thing about lorenzo and I want to bring this up and and get phone calls and feedback at 2 4 8 5 3
06:419 97 97
06:43It's kind of a unique situation in that he was most recently playing
06:47with the great lakes loons
06:50Which means
06:52There's somebody out there that's seen him play. Oh, yeah
06:54We got somebody that's gone to a loons game up there in midland to see the dodgers
06:59Class a affiliate that's up there. We should talk to dan hasty
07:04Well, he does west michigan whitecaps. Well, you know who plays the west michigan whitecaps
07:08Do they play them? I think they're in the same league. Are they I thought one was high in the one was low
07:12But whatever if they do
07:14Are they okay?
07:15Two four eight five three nine ninety seven ninety seven somebody out there seen lebronzo
07:20Now you I don't know if you paid any attention. I mean when you go watch those teams
07:24Are you really zoned in on prospects, but if if anybody has
07:28Looked forward to it now
