00:00Hello there welcome to a Wednesday evening weather update from the Met
00:03Office. Some lively weather around tonight and into Thursday in the form of
00:07thunderstorms a warning has been issued initially for the southeast where we've
00:11seen some showers, thundery showers of that through today but it extends
00:15northwards as well as westwards covering most of England and Wales away from the
00:19far southwest and the far northwest there. We're expecting some torrential
00:22downpours, frequent lightning, the risk of hail and also the risk of some flash
00:27flooding. Now let's have a look and see what's happening on Wednesday evening.
00:31It's muggy outside, humidity levels are rising and that means an uncomfortable
00:35night across much of England and Wales. Still those thunderstorms down towards
00:39the southeast and they could form elsewhere just moving in across central
00:43and southern areas. A few showers also just across Northern Ireland, Western
00:47Scotland and then through the early hours of the morning this cluster here
00:51develops across North Wales as well as Northern England. This is thundery rain
00:55and it's heavy. Further thunderstorms further south and it's a muggy night.
00:59Further north across Scotland and Northern Ireland more in the way of
01:02clouds towards the west, not as cool as it has been and some clearer skies to
01:06start the day across Cairngorms as well as Aberdeenshire. Not bad also for
01:10Caithness and Orkney up towards Shetland we could see one or two showers. This
01:15thundery rain which is heavy across the North Midlands, Northern England clears
01:19towards eastern counties through the first part of the day but you could run
01:23into some problems if you are driving first thing tomorrow morning and then
01:26the sun will come out, some lovely sunshine but we'll see more clouds and
01:30some patchy rain across Western Scotland although it will fizzle out
01:33through the afternoon. At the same time these homegrown thunderstorms will
01:37continue, they'll be slow moving, there'll be torrential in places, hit and miss,
01:41sunshine in between. It's going to be a very humid day but if you catch a
01:46thunderstorm it could last for quite a while. There's not a lot of forcing on
01:49these showers, they're moving very slowly. And look at this, temperatures 26
01:53to 29 across central and southern parts of England and Wales, a pleasant 23 for
01:58Northern Ireland once the Sun comes out, 20 or 21, 22 across Scotland, again
02:03helped with some sunshine. So that's the picture on Thursday. Through Friday we
02:09continue to see the risk of thunderstorms towards the east, the winds
02:12pick up further west, some showery rain moves in, this is a weakening weather
02:15front which extends across the country into Saturday. So a legacy of cloud into
02:20the first part of the weekend and then later in the weekend we'll see more rain
02:24move in across Scotland as well as Northern Ireland. Let's now backtrack to
02:29a Thursday evening where as you can see these thunderstorms will just keep on
02:33going, they will tend to fade away through the night as more cloud just
02:38encroaches across the western side of Scotland, perhaps more cloud for Northern
02:41Ireland. Elsewhere it's still a muggy night across England and Wales, towards
02:46the north there some clearer skies. All in all though as we enter Friday there's
02:51always a chance of some showers, particularly across more northern and
02:54western areas and some heavy showers across eastern counties where we'll see
02:58temperatures across the home counties as well as the southeast up to around 28, 29
03:03Celsius. The heat wanes a little bit towards the east in the south on
03:07Saturday, still the chance of those showers and more cloud and rain which
03:12could be persistent towards the north and the west on Sunday. Elsewhere it's a
03:15fine day with some sunshine. I'll see you later.
