00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays and you thought Solid Snake was good at hiding in cardboard boxes?
00:13Well guess what, he's even better at hiding in your favourite games.
00:17These are 10 Metal Gear Solid easter eggs in other games.
00:21Easter egg is a term that is often used incorrectly so we're gonna stick with the strict definition
00:25and try and only include true, hidden references.
00:28So if you think we're gonna mention Solid Snake being a main character in Smash Bros,
00:33this ain't the list for that.
00:34Let's go.
00:35Before we continue, we publish content all week long so be sure to subscribe and ring
00:40the bell to get notified of our latest videos.
00:43Babushka easter egg.
00:51If you're confused about the title of this entry, this hidden easter egg for Metal Gear
00:54Solid was hidden inside an easter egg for another game, an easter egg inside an easter
01:00egg.
01:01I think it's funny.
01:02Anyways, in the Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe, after disobeying everything the narrator asks
01:06you to do, he will eventually transport you to, quote, someone else's game.
01:10Fans of the brilliant story-driven walking simulator will recognise it as Firewatch,
01:15with the player having been teleported to the top of the tower from said game.
01:18If the player observes their surroundings, in particular a pile of books, they will see
01:23the clear as day MGS reference with their book titled The Patriots, the same name given
01:27to the secret organisation from the MGS series.
01:30This could be easy to pass off as unrelated if it wasn't for the name of the author, Donald
01:35Anderson, otherwise known as Sigint in MGS3 and the DARPA chief in MGS1.
01:40I love everything about this game, Stanley, and it seems there's even more.
01:45Come, let's venture outward and see what else is out there.
01:48Sneak eyes.
01:50I'm already breaking the rules on this entry because this easter egg was hardly hidden,
01:54but it was in the trailer for the game rather than the game itself, so that counts I guess?
01:59Battlefield Bad Company featured a trailer for its game that had the gang freaking out
02:03over the possibility that someone might be hiding in an upside down oil drum, a clear
02:07reference to the MGS4's famous barrel where Old Snake would spend his stealthy times.
02:13Complete with an exclamation point alert, this reference is a fun nod for tactical espionage
02:18lovers.
02:19Some kind of special military barrel, you know?
02:22Like some kind of real solid metal, I don't know, like some new Japanese thing.
02:29Unlockable MGS Characters
02:31Evolution Skateboarding, an intense sports title developed by Konami, hit the gaming
02:35scene in 2002 for PlayStation 2 and GameCube.
02:39It offered players the thrill of unlocking up to four characters from the Metal Gear
02:42Solid franchise, including beloved figures like Solid Snake and Raiden, as well as two
02:47Golukovich soldiers, all ready to hit the skate park.
02:50Konami later incorporated a mode inspired by this game into Metal Gear Solid 2's substance,
02:55enabling players to shred through the big shell on their skateboards, and it was just
03:00as weird as you could imagine.
03:02The Case of Mr. X
03:09Here's an absolute mishmash of genres for you, as if Saints Row 4 couldn't get any
03:13f***ing weirder.
03:15In the mission The Case of Mr. X, the player must uncover Mr. X's identity and stop his
03:20nefarious plans.
03:22The mission is filled with action-packed sequences, including high-speed chases, intense shootouts
03:26and daring confrontations, but also tactical mother-flippin' espionage action.
03:33As a clear nod to both MGS and Splinter Cell, the player must stealthily move through the
03:38mission, avoiding the enemy and opting for stealth.
03:41With the gameplay reminiscent of the infamous series, there's also the famous alert sound
03:45effect played from time to time.
03:51Solid Kate
03:58The often forgotten and underloved, or underappreciated depending on your take, Final Fantasy 7's
04:03spin-off was full of many references to its original game, but did you know it also had
04:07a fun little easter egg about another Japanese-inspired tale?
04:11In the Final Fantasy 7 dirge of Cerberus narrative, there exists a mission titled Solid Kate,
04:17where players assume the role of Kate Sith, the bipedal fluffy toy controlled by a talking
04:21Scottish robot cat, and it's not even the weirdest part of Final Fantasy 7.
04:25Their task entails stealthily navigating Marko Reactor Zero without detection.
04:30The mission's name and primary goals pay homage to Solid Snake and echoes the stealth-centric
04:35gameplay synonymous with the Metal Gear series.
04:38Can you imagine combining music from both of these games?
04:41That's the most embarrassing thing I've ever done.
04:51Raiden Skin
05:00References between Metal Gear and Assassin's Creed are recurrent across various games.
05:04Metal Gear Solid 4 featured an Altair costume, while Peace Walker allowed players to dive
05:09into haystacks, reminiscent of the Assassin's Creed iconic Leap of Faith.
05:13Assassin's Creed Brotherhood featured a full Raiden costume unlockable, transforming Ezio
05:19into the cyborg ninja from Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots, and it's as cool as
05:24it sounds.
05:25These interconnections showcase a playful exchange of nods between the two beloved franchises,
05:30enriching the gaming experience for fans of both series and showing that lack of rivalry
05:34and high levels of respect between both devs.
05:41Snake and the Boss
05:42Much like the love between Assassin's Creed and MGS, the collaboration between Monster
05:47Hunter and Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker gave rise to another fantastic cameo.
05:51In Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, players could acquire armor sets portraying Naked Snake
05:57and the Boss, along with Peace Walker gear for feline comrades like the bandana, sneaking
06:01suit and knife.
06:02The iconic cardboard boxes also made a notable appearance.
06:06Moreover, special download quests granted access to additional Metal Gear related equipment,
06:10enriching the crossover experience between these beloved franchises.
06:15Metal Gear Solid
06:26Some versions of the infamous Metal Gear Solid 3 featured a fun Ape Escape themed minigame
06:30called Snake vs Monkey, so it was only right that Ape Escape would feature a fun little
06:35Metal Gear Solid themed minigame, and that they did.
06:38Should the player beat all the levels of the game, they can purchase this minigame in the
06:42Hobby Shop, which has at least an hour of good fun taking the engine of Ape Escape to
06:47play out a heavily abridged version of the MGS story.
06:51With all the thrills and spills you'd expect from the real game, this adaptation is actually
06:55loads of fun.
06:57Fun fact as well, the minigame costs 573 coins to buy.
07:01How do you pronounce 573 in Japanese?
07:04Ko-Na-Mi.
07:05Cute.
07:12Solid Snape
07:14This is a fun little easter egg featured in the last place you'd expect to find a Metal
07:18Gear Solid reference.
07:19Not only is it a Lego game, but it's a Harry Potter game.
07:22The closest connection between Harry Potter and Solid Snake is that they both speak Parseltongue.
07:28Get it?
07:29Snake?
07:30F*** you guys.
07:31This easter egg is actually quite simple, if the player plays as Severus Snape and puts
07:35a barrel over their head, they will unlock the achievement Solid Snape, a clear nod to
07:40the barrel hiding system implemented in Metal Gear Solid 4 Guns of the Patriots.
07:44It's not fancy, it's just good fun.
07:47Kinda like me.
07:48Okay, I'm not that fancy.
07:51Kojima Stranding
08:06This entry is pretty special as it is Kojima's other love child.
08:10So there isn't just one easter egg, there is loads.
08:14Let's go.
08:15At the beginning of the game, the line you kept us waiting Sam, is a clear nod to the
08:18infamous Kept You Waiting Her from MGS.
08:21The game over text behind Deadman when you first meet him is almost identical to the
08:25original MGS game over font.
08:27And let's not forget the entire trailer for a Death Stranding Director's Cut, which
08:31features the infamous box, an environment identical to the MGS series world, and of
08:35course, a rat running into a vent.
08:37There are loads more references and easter eggs, but we'd be here all day.
08:41Time for you to just find them yourself.
