00:00I have two questions, one on the Vice President
00:02and then one on the President's decision.
00:05First, it's clear that President Biden
00:07and Vice President Harris have met regularly,
00:09including their standing lunches
00:11from the outset of the administration.
00:13But I'm wondering now, since he made his decision,
00:16if there are any plans to increase
00:18the cadence of those interactions
00:19or if he plans to include her
00:21in more of his policymaking processes?
00:23How will that relationship and that involvement change?
00:25So, what I can say is the President
00:27and the Vice President speak regularly.
00:29They see each other regularly.
00:30You named some ways of how they've been able to do that,
00:33to stay in touch and see each other in person.
00:37The President is committed to being President
00:40and leading this country forward
00:43in the way that he believes that Americans
00:45want to see this country moving forward.
00:47And the Vice President's going to continue
00:49to be a critical partner.
00:50Nothing's going to change in that.
00:53But they're going to continue to engage, interact,
00:57and have important conversations
00:58as it relates to policies and moving forward.
01:02That's not going to stop.
01:03And I'll just leave it there.
01:06And on the timing of his decision,
01:07it's now been widely reported that when Senator Chuck Schumer
01:11went to visit with the President in Rehoboth a week ago,
01:15Saturday, that President Biden said,
01:18I need another week.
01:20What did he need another week for?
01:21So, I'll say this.
01:23They had a very good conversation,
01:26the President and Senator Schumer.
01:28And I'm not going to go into their private conversation.
01:34I'm not going to go into particulars.
01:35But it was a good conversation.
01:37The Press But you said it was a very short timeframe
01:39in which the President was advised and made his decision.
01:42Ms. Jean-Pierre When he started thinking about it
01:43and making that decision, it started Saturday evening.
01:47And on Sunday afternoon, he made his decision.
01:49The Press But it sounds like he was presented
01:50with data a week prior.
01:52Ms. Jean-Pierre I'm just not going to get into specifics.
01:55It started Saturday evening.
01:57The next afternoon, which was Sunday afternoon,
02:00he made that decision.
02:01A small group of advisors, including family,
02:04was with him on Saturday night.
02:07And then Sunday afternoon, he made the decision.
02:10That's how it happened.
02:12That's how he came to announcing it.
02:16The Press And on the messaging to us, to the press corps,
02:19it's been nine days since there's been a briefing.
02:21The President obviously published his letter
02:22officially on Sunday, withdrawing from the race.
02:26Why go on television to make your first comments
02:30about that decision rather than make it official?
02:32Ms. Jean-Pierre No, I appreciate that.
02:33We've always had a protocol here.
02:34When the President's not here, we don't do a briefing.
02:37That's just the way that we've always ha-
02:39it's always happened.
02:40The interview that I did yesterday
02:42was on the books for about two, three weeks.
02:44It was way before,
02:46way before the President made his decision.
02:48That's it.
