00:14Former Nangka Assemblyman Awang Bimi Awang Ali Basah has been sworn in as Dewan Negara President.
00:20This comes a week after Awang Bimi took his oath of office as a Senator.
00:25He was sworn in at 10.15am before Deputy Dewan Negara President Nur Jaslan Muhammad
00:30at the full sitting of the Upper House, attended by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
00:34Awang Bimi succeeds Butang Tagal, who died in May after serving nearly three months as Dewan Negara President.
00:40Born in Cebu, Awang Bimi served as Nangka Assemblyman from 2004 to 2009 and is a practising solicitor.
00:48He has been Chairman of the Kuching Port Authority since 1997
00:52and is currently an independent non-executive director of Sarawak Plantation Berhad.
