00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're taking a look at 10 of the toughest bosses we have
00:12ever faced in RPGs.
00:22Before we begin, we publish new videos all week long, so be sure to subscribe to Mojo
00:26Plays and ring the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:31The Nyx Avatar, Persona 3
00:41Like many JRPGs, Persona 3 features a final boss that will put you through the ringer
00:46in the worst ways possible.
00:48Hey, you want to say you've conquered the game, don't you?
00:51Well then toughen up, and face the Nyx Avatar head on.
01:03What makes the fight grueling is not just the massive health pool it has, the Nyx Avatar
01:07can also attack twice per turn.
01:10God help you if it manages to exploit a weakness, or else you could find your entire party wiped
01:15out in a flash.
01:18It makes us super thankful for the rework in Persona 3 Reload, where it only attacks
01:22once per turn, and can no longer inflict almighty damage.
01:32Emil, Nier Automata
01:40We always had a weird feeling in the pit of our stomachs about Emil.
01:44Nothing says, I'm a major threat, like a man with a creepy smiling moon mask.
01:48Once you've finished the extensive Emil's Memories side quest, you can try to take him
01:52on in his own domain.
01:55Problem is that his attacks can cover a large portion of the area.
02:07Look it was already bad enough to give him eye lasers and exploding heads, did we really
02:11need to fight in the middle of a massive sandstorm too?
02:14Just try to keep your wits about you and pay close attention to his movements.
02:25Red Rum, Xenogears
02:36No, we didn't accidentally mix this up with a video about games making references to The
02:41Shining.
02:42Red Rum is the most vicious boss you'll come across in Xenogears.
02:46What makes this beast so excruciating to go up against is how he can severely cripple
02:51your party in a single turn.
02:53For instance, some of his attacks can cause status afflictions to two of your characters
02:57simultaneously.
03:05Another annoying move of his is Bloody Rain, which can greatly hurt you while healing himself.
03:11But the biggest offense he has is straight up murder.
03:15That's the name of the move, murder.
03:17It's unblockable, and it can one hit kill your party member and heal Red Rum the same
03:23amount as his target's max HP.
03:26It's total BS.
03:33Giygas, Earthbound
03:42The second the fight starts, Giygas gives off an incredibly intimidating presence.
03:47This may be an alien baby, but this alien baby has some insane powers that will bring
03:52an end to you and the entire world.
03:54With a massive health pool of 2,000, you and your party must utilize the best attacks you
03:59have to finish this monstrosity off.
04:11Keep in mind that Giygas can easily retaliate thanks to his high speed stat, and all three
04:16of his attacks can put party members in critical condition.
04:19Be aggressive, but also be mindful of when you should heal.
04:31Lavos, Chrono Trigger
04:40As if his creepy appearance wasn't bad enough, Lavos is absolutely one of the hardest bosses
04:45from the SNES days.
04:47First off, this was one of those bosses where you would expect there to be more than one
04:51or two phases.
04:53This thing's got ten.
04:54The first nine all recycle attacks and patterns from previous boss fights.
04:59As for the tenth, Lavos uses its own strategy of attacks that deal extremely high damage.
05:13Even if you defeat that tenth form, the fight is still not over.
05:17You'll have to go inside of its shell and fight its own body, which can curse your party
05:22member's gear.
05:23And guess what, defeating that still doesn't mean the end.
05:27You still have to fight the core of Lavos, which has high defense, attacks that can insta-kill
05:32certain party members, and one move that straight up halves all of your party's HP.
05:39Simply put, this fight is going to kick your thyroid into high gear from all of the frustration.
05:52Penance Final Fantasy X
06:03When talking about tough Final Fantasy bosses, many immediately go to Sephiroth or Kefka.
06:09But did folks forget about Penance?
06:11You know, the creature with 12 million HP?
06:14Just when you thought the Dark Aeons were a pain, this thing appears out of nowhere
06:18and it's going to put you through hell.
06:30The key to defeating Penance is management.
06:33You will need to balance how often you're attacking its arms and which characters take
06:37priority in getting healed.
06:39You need to keep both arms dead while chipping away at its health because if it has both
06:44arms on its turn, there's a good chance it'll use Judgment Day on you, which can
06:49potentially kill your entire party.
06:52If you want to stand a chance against this thing, you're going to need the Celestial
06:56Weapons.
06:57Nothing else is going to help you survive this.
07:09Lucca Blight Suikoden II
07:18With Suikoden II featuring all kinds of characters for you to recruit, you can swap them in and
07:23out and create parties that match your preferred playstyle.
07:26However, you may have to find specific party formations if you want to defeat Lucca Blight.
07:40This guy will quickly prove to be a pain in the ass.
07:43High attack power, high defense, a move that can insta-kill a unit, only thing that's
07:48missing is an absurdly high health pool.
07:51Truly the most annoying boss in a tactical RPG, and one we would never want to suffer
07:56through again.
08:03Lingering Will Kingdom Hearts II
08:12The Kingdom Hearts games have a pretty notorious lineup of bosses, primarily hidden bosses
08:18that you can only take on when you're at a really high level.
08:22Sephiroth was the first to come to mind when we made this list, but the Lingering Will
08:25is the hardest boss of any Kingdom Hearts encounter.
08:29Not only does Lingering Will hit hard, it hits fast too, and it does not matter if you
08:40try to keep it at a distance, as it boasts some high damaging melee and ranged attack.
08:45If you have the time to spare, then get ready to chip away at 16 entire health bars.
08:50This fight is going to take you a long time.
09:02Flowey Undertale
09:12If you're wanting to go for the dreaded genocide run in Undertale, you're choosing
09:16to take on the toughest challenge in the entire game.
09:19Flowey has been putting on a fake face for you for the entire game, and now he's planning
09:24to get rid of you so that he may become a god.
09:38This is when Undertale leans heavily into its bullet hell mechanics, as Flowey assaults
09:42you with all kinds of projectiles.
09:45He'll go so far as to start messing with the game itself, tricking you into thinking
09:49you've got a game over.
09:51Try your best to grab those fight and act buttons to keep your health and offense in
09:54check.
09:55That's easier said than done, we know.
10:02The Demi-Fiend Shin Megami Tensei V
10:12We started the list with Atlas, and we're ending the list with Atlas.
10:16How appropriate given this studio is notorious for its rough final bosses.
10:22The Demi-Fiend may very well be the toughest boss in the entire Shin Megami Tensei series.
10:35While he isn't as volatile as his incarnations in previous games, the Demi-Fiend can still
10:40hit your party hard and will often retaliate when certain actions are taken, from landing
10:45a physical attack to simply switching in a new party member.
10:49Really, don't feel upset if you die a couple of times.
10:52This fight can be tough, especially if you don't have many status afflicting moves equipped.
11:05What's the hardest boss you've fought in an RPG?
