00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays and today we're taking a look at the 10 absolute poor excuses of
00:10video game remasters.
00:12The classics deserved better than whatever garbage these were.
00:22Before we begin, we publish new videos all week long, so be sure to subscribe to Mojo
00:26Plays and ring the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:33Super Mario 3D All-Stars
00:41Now we aren't saying that Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, or even Super Mario
00:46Galaxy are bad games, and let us preface this by saying this trilogy is in a much better
00:51state now than it was at launch.
00:54But for the 9 months it was on the market, Super Mario 3D All-Stars was just sloppy.
01:08Galaxy was fine overall, and Mario 64 looked about as rough as we expected, but Sunshine
01:13had debug mode left on in some areas and lacked support for general settings like inverted
01:19camera controls.
01:20Of course, the most frustrating aspect was the limited availability.
01:24As we briefly mentioned earlier, Nintendo sold the game for only 9 months before pulling
01:29it from sale everywhere.
01:33Why?
01:39Halo The Master Chief Collection
01:45Much like Mario 3D All-Stars, Halo The Master Chief Collection is in a way better condition
01:50these days.
01:51Heck, we'd call it one of the best collections of games that everyone should own.
01:55But back when it first launched in 2014, it was horrendous.
02:05While the offline campaigns were fine for the most part, the online portion was a freaking
02:09train wreck as matchmaking refused to work.
02:13You couldn't play any co-op games or even PvP modes without some kind of nonsensical
02:17error.
02:18Like we said, the collection is now in a far better state, but at the time, it was abysmal.
02:32Mafia II Definitive Edition
02:41When it was announced that the original Mafia titles would be getting remastered and brought
02:45forward to modern hardware, with the first game getting fully remade, folks were ecstatic.
02:50The first game was brought forward with little to no trouble.
02:52As for Mafia II, oof.
03:02Players were greeted with a litany of technical problems in both audio and visuals.
03:06It wasn't uncommon to see objects and character models clipping into each other, and some
03:11of the visual bugs are still very much present.
03:14We're just glad Hangar 13 and D3T managed to fix up most of it before long.
03:19But like we said, some of the problems, they're still in there, man.
03:26Grand Theft Auto The Trilogy Definitive Edition
03:38The early 2020s saw the beginning of society finding ways to integrate AI into the workplace.
03:44Among the first of the gaming companies to do this was Rockstar Games and Grove Street
03:48Games.
03:49In an effort to remaster GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas for modern platforms, Grove
03:55Street Games utilized artificial intelligence to upscale textures while retaining the source
03:59code as much as possible.
04:01The results were less than pleasant.
04:09So many of our favorite characters wound up looking worse than they ever did before, while
04:13Liberty City, Vice City, and San Andreas looked more alien, with incorrect signage, misaligned
04:19tiles, and visual effects ruining shots of certain cutscenes.
04:23Updates have since fixed most of the games, but many folks are still scorched from this
04:27release.
04:28At least Red Dead Redemption went by a little smoother when it was brought to modern platforms
04:32a year later.
04:43Parappa the Rapper Remastered The hip-hop hero Parappa does have a place
04:53in the modern world to succeed and grow, if only Sony were to allow him to do so.
04:59But ever since the failure that was Parappa the Rapper Remastered, we may never get to
05:02see him get the one-up on Joe Chin ever again.
05:05What went wrong?
05:06Well, for starters, there wasn't really anything touched on here.
05:09Japan Studio just took the PSP port, touched up the visuals, and called it a day.
05:19Nothing was done to improve the timing of inputs with the beat of the songs, thus maintaining
05:23the nightmare that was Stage 4.
05:31Few people stuck with the game after about 30 minutes, and now, it's impossible for
05:35anyone to even want to believe anymore.
05:38Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection was already
05:48a bit of a hiccup way back in 2011, but this was Konami's chance to do right by their
05:52IP and show they were ready to come back to the games industry full force.
05:57But when the first volume of the Master Collection dropped, that hope just wasn't in the cards.
06:08While the games did launch in stable conditions, players were disappointed to find that nothing,
06:12and I mean nothing, was touched.
06:15The controls were still whack, and the resolution was stuck at 720p.
06:19On top of that, the games were still running at 30 frames per second, while the first Metal
06:24Gear Solid was stuck at a 4.3 aspect ratio.
06:27Talk about doing the bare minimum.
06:31Tales of Symphonia Remastered Tales of Symphonia already suffered from a
06:45shoddy remaster when it was ported over from GameCube and PS2 to Playstation 3 in 2013.
06:51While it did include added content, it did so at the expense of framerate and less cell
06:56shading.
06:57It wound up making the game look generic.
06:59So how does the latest remaster make it worse?
07:01Simply put, bad optimization.
07:04The framerate fluctuates more than its previous versions ever did, and the load times were
07:08far too frequent and overly long.
07:10To make matters worse, it does not include the sequel like the PS3 version did.
07:15Considering you can buy the PS3 version on Steam for $20, or $5 if you catch it during
07:20a sale, this iteration for Switch, PS4, and Xbox One was just unnecessary and piss poor
07:26in execution.
07:33Silent Hill HD Collection
07:41Going back to Konami one more time, Silent Hill HD Collection has been among the worst
07:46titles in the company's catalog.
07:48On the surface, everything seemed like it was going to be a simple touch-up on visuals
07:52and controls for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
07:55What we got was a significantly inferior version of Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3.
08:05In addition to various audio glitches plaguing cutscenes, various moments had removed the
08:10fog that kept the games tense.
08:12And since they fixed it, now there's too much fog to where you have absolutely no freaking
08:17clue as to where you're going.
08:19Easily seeing stuff more than several feet ahead of you made the games less scary, and
08:23now not even being able to see a centimeter in front of you is just frustrating, and it's
08:27why some fans have refused to forgive Konami to this day.
08:34Warcraft III Reforged
08:40Blizzard has been struggling to maintain fans ever since this disaster.
08:44Reforged was to be the long-awaited return of Warcraft III Reign of Chaos, a real-time
08:49strategy game widely beloved for its story, gameplay, level design, and wealth of support
08:54from its community.
08:55This was the game that would inspire and help pave the way of success to games like Dota
09:002 and League of Legends.
09:02But when making Reforged, Blizzard fumbled in the worst ways possible.
09:07For starters, Reforged launched with many features missing that Blizzard had originally
09:12advertised like new cutscenes as well as pre-existing features being noticeably removed.
09:17Then there was the end-user license agreement that said any mods made within the game would
09:22become property of Blizzard Entertainment, meaning anything you made would be owned by
09:27them.
09:28And this all goes without mentioning the plague of bugs and glitches that could be found around
09:32every corner.
09:39Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection
09:42Oh boy, what an utter shitshow.
09:52Aspyr had already dropped the ball when remastering Knights of the Old Republic and its sequel.
09:57Remember that new content that was supposed to come with it after launch?
10:01Never happened.
10:02Canceled.
10:03Maybe they've learned and will give Battlefront the respect it deserves then.
10:06Not on your life, sport.
10:08What do you think this is?
10:12Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection was marred with all kinds of problems.
10:16Where do we even begin?
10:18There are a handful of audio problems, one of which almost caused me some ear pain from
10:23playing the game while wearing headphones.
10:26Then you have a wonky UI for menu navigation between selecting units and moving around
10:31the Galactic Conquest map, and worst of all, your online multiplayer is busted to hell
10:36and lacking any kind of support.
10:43And what makes this whole situation even more aggravating is that Aspyr only spent enough
10:47money to secure THREE SERVERS for the multiplayer.
10:52How did you not know this launch was going to be as big as this and not properly prepare?
10:58Battlefront Classic Collection has pissed off so many fans that at the time of this
11:02video it is the ninth most hated game on Steam, and trust us, you are better off going
11:09and buying the older versions of these games, even the games from EA and DICE.
11:13That's how bad this is.
