00:00So, I'm all caught up, how about you?
00:05Let me catch you up on everything that's been happening last night, today, we'll also preview
00:08forward.
00:09We'll start off with the WNBA and we'll start off with a record-breaking day from Kaitlyn
00:14Clark, who recorded 19 assists last night and 24 points in a 101-93 loss against the
00:21Dallas Wings.
00:22Why is this meaningful?
00:23Well, she broke Courtney VanderSloot's record of 18 assists from 2020 in a game against
00:29the Fever.
00:31Incredible single-season record now broken by the rookie in Kaitlyn Clark, who we will
00:35hear from coming up in the sound-off segment in about 10 minutes from now.
00:40Needless to say, a very successful rookie season initially didn't look like that so
00:44much, but she has been fantastic for the Fever, although they did lose again yesterday.
00:48Meanwhile, a new sports betting operator opens up in the D.C. area, it is BetMGM.
00:55They are online right now, joining Caesars and FanDuel as the first three legal sportsbooks
01:01in Washington, D.C.
01:03BetMGM will also keep their exclusive rights to two blocks outside of Nationals Park, since
01:09they have a partnership with the Washington Nationals.
01:12The app is available on both iOS and Android, also available in the D.C. area, so sports
01:20betting now going live in D.C.
01:23Also yesterday, we learned a very big financial deal with the WNBA as well, and the Players
01:29Union is even questioning this, saying that it could be potentially worth more.
01:33The Women's Basketball Association receiving $2.2 billion over the next 11 years in rights
01:39fees in its new media deals, that's about $200 million a year.
01:43The Players Union basically saying maybe this could be worth more, we'll see.
01:46It'll expire in 2025, and so naturally in the future, if the WNBA continues their success,
01:52maybe this is worth even more than that.
01:55Meanwhile, Jonte Porter's issues continue.
01:57Porter is now looking to play basketball in Greece, because he no longer can play in the
02:01NBA.
02:02He has been banned, and also going through some legal troubles as well.
02:05He was denied by a judge to play for Prometheus, B.C. in the Greek Basketball League and the
02:10Champions League in Europe to try and make some cash.
02:13Scheduled to be sentenced in New York on December the 18th.
02:16We'll see if any jail time is issued to Porter in the future.
02:20Meanwhile, right now, the British Open is underway.
02:23We'll have constant updates for you in terms of a leaderboard, but naturally right now
02:28with the Open Championship going on, everyone paying a close eye on it, and it will be something
02:36that we watch here on the show as well.
02:38Make sure you tune in to Scott Farrell, who will have more on this coming up later this
02:42afternoon.
02:43Justin Thomas currently three under par as he's finished the day as of right now in the
02:48leaderboard.
02:49It's a really, really tough course that they're playing.
02:51All right.
02:52As we mentioned, the Indiana Fever last night, the final 101-93.
02:56Fever dropped to 11-15 on the season.
02:58Kaitlyn Clark, as we said, 24 points, 19 assists, three remounts.
03:01Now, the other WNBA game pretty interesting.
03:04As the Lynx, Minnesota, they moved to 17-8.
03:06They defeat the Atlanta Dream 86-79.
03:09They outscored the Dream 30-19 in the final ten minutes for the highest scoring fourth
03:13quarter of the season.
03:15Kayla McBride, 30 points, four threes.
03:17The Dream have lost eight games in a row.
03:20Also in basketball yesterday, getting ready for the Olympics, Team Serbia, no match for
03:26Team USA.
03:27They move to 3-0 in friendly competition, routing them yesterday.
03:32Incredible performance by all accounts going on for Team USA as they dominate their opponent.
03:38Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Bucks are looking for some clarity on Chris Middleton.
03:42He's recovering from arthroscopic surgery now on both ankles this offseason, according
03:46to multiple reports on Wednesday.
03:48Three-time All-Star, he's expected to be ready for the 2024-25 season.
03:52He missed 55 games last season, having all kinds of ankle issues.
03:57Well, when the Orlando Magic were given an NBA franchise, a lot of folks thought it had
04:01a lot to do with this gentleman.
04:03His name is Pat Williams.
04:04He was vital in getting them their first franchise back in 1989.
04:08He served as Orlando's general manager until 1996, when he became the senior vice president
04:14of the Magic.
04:16And Pat Williams yesterday passed away at the age of 84 due to viral pneumonia, one
04:22of the more popular players, excuse me, popular executives in NBA history.
04:28Ratings for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game rose this year after an all-time low
04:32last year as they received a 6% increase and 116,000 people were watching the Spanish language
04:40broadcast on Fox to Porsche.
04:42That was up 36% from 85,000 last year.
04:47Home Run Derby, 5.5 million viewers down 11% from last year and had 6.6 million viewers.
04:54Meanwhile, in college hoops, men's basketball coach Jeff Capel and a Pittsburgh have agreed
04:59to a three-year contract extension.
05:01The school announced Wednesday.
05:03The deal keeps Capel with the Panthers through the 29-30 season, 97 and 92 six seasons at
05:11Pittsburgh.
05:12Also, UFC heavyweight champion John Jones pleaded not guilty Wednesday to a pair of
05:17misdemeanor charges stemming from a drug use test at his New Mexico home where he was accused
05:24of being hostile.
05:25The other big story going on right now is the Southeastern Conference meetings.
05:30All of the head coaches talking about everything, including the new video game that has just
05:34recently posted back online for the first time in a decade.
05:38We'll get to that in just a bit as Bill Bender will join us on the show.
05:40But first, it is a very big moment when you're taking over for the head coach of the Alabama
05:47Crimson Tide.
05:48And that is exactly what Kalen DeBoer is being asked to do as Dick Saban has decided to at
05:52least it looks like potentially retire.
05:55By the way, Saban spotted at the All-Star game in Texas just a couple of days ago.
05:59At the Southeastern Conference media meetings, Kalen DeBoer talked about taking on Alabama's
06:04head coaching football job and keeping the tradition rolling with the Crimson Tide.
06:10Yeah, you know, I actually took notes and I still am taking notes, right?
06:13These guys have been here longer than I have.
06:16And, you know, sometimes, you know, we use the saying, you don't know what you don't
06:20know.
06:21And I'm just trying to take it all in.
06:23We want to do things, of course, I want to do things the way I've done them in some aspects,
06:28but embracing what is what is important to this program, the traditions that have happened
06:35over many years.
06:37But I think just when it really comes down to this team, it's about the work that we're
06:40doing right now and listening to them and hearing them out.
06:46I think that's the best thing you can do when you come in as a new coach is, you know, kind
06:52of meet them, meet them in the middle.
06:54And, you know, we've worked together and they understand that, you know, I want this team
06:59to be a team that ultimately is player led.
07:07Yeah, you know, I actually took notes and I.
07:16All right, and once again, the Crimson Tide, not the favorite right now to win the Southeastern
07:22Conference, and the favorite is the Georgia Bulldogs, Kirby Smore is going to now have
07:26to deal with several other teams in the SEC, including Texas.
07:29He talked about the realignment.
07:32Yeah, initially, I was wondering how I got that draw, you know, but we're not one to
07:35complain, we're one to be excited.
07:37I think when you step into the shoes of a University of Georgia football player, you
07:42accept that that challenge is going to be there.
07:44I mean, we we we kind of embrace that and we love it.
07:48I mean, what you didn't get to mention is that we opened with Clemson, too, who's one
07:51of the top teams in the top programs in the country.
07:54So, like, we're really excited about that.
07:57And, you know, our guys embrace that.
07:59I mean, as coaches, you want to play the best and people forget that when you spent time
08:03in the NFL, every week was like that.
08:06So when Texas and Oklahoma came into the conference, every schedule is going to get harder.
08:11We're going to get easier.
08:12It's going to get harder.
08:13And we embrace that.
08:14We look forward to it and excited for the challenge to go to some really tough games.
08:17So, you know, we're excited about that.
08:19I mean, we're going to play the best and people forget that when you spent time in the NFL,
08:23every week was like that.
08:26It will be for the SEC.
08:28Who will win it?
08:29Bill Bender will give us a preview coming up next from Sporting News.
