00:00Well, but let's get started with some sports business news and we begin with the National
00:07Basketball Association and their media rights deal, which essentially was going to Amazon.
00:12And I said was because TNT has decided to match Amazon's offer as far as financially
00:20speaking.
00:21But the thing is, is that the NBA holds the right to determine whether or not they're
00:26going to accept the matching of the offer by TNT.
00:29A lot of complicated issues surrounding this.
00:33Needless to say, the National Basketball Association basically has to decide as to whether or not
00:38they're going to stay with the team at TNT that they have had for decades or move on
00:43to Amazon to give them more of a important streaming format, which is what they're going
00:47to claim.
00:48With Amazon, they get more of a footprint on streaming than they do with TNT.
00:52Needless to say, this is probably going to court because TNT held the right to match.
00:57NBA says they don't.
00:59Stay tuned.
01:00A lot more coming.
01:01Meanwhile, we'll have to stay tuned to the National Football League because we went from
01:0416 games to 17 games and now, folks, we're headed toward an 18-game NFL season.
01:10The NFL Players Association has engaged in high-level discussions about a 18-game season.
01:17This is according to the NFLPA's executive director.
01:20A meeting was held on Monday with Washington Post reporters and editors at the headquarters
01:24of the NFLPA.
01:26Talks have not yet progressed to negotiations, but certainly once this begins, you know there
01:32is a chance.
01:33Now, how would this get done?
01:34Would there even be an NFL preseason at all?
01:37They already went from four games down to three.
01:39Could it go just down to one?
01:41Could there just be scrimmages?
01:42Needless to say, this could go deeper into the NFL season, maybe into February, and mid-February
01:48is when we could see the Super Bowl.
01:50So stay tuned for that as well.
01:52Meanwhile, Team USA getting ready for their appearance in France, and that is coming very
01:58soon.
01:59They had a tune-up again yesterday.
02:01They won their fifth straight matchup in Germany, 92-88, and LeBron James had points, steals,
02:11rebounds, did it all, finished with 24 on the way to a 92-88 victory.
02:19So the showcase, as you see there, has been swept, and Team USA is the very heavy favorite
02:25to take home the gold, although the games have been a lot closer than what you would
02:29have expected thus far.
02:30Meanwhile, over to Major League Baseball, where the Kansas City Royals and Arizona Diamondbacks
02:35got off to a very heated match last night.
02:38Bobby Wood Jr., all-star and one of the best players in baseball, was hit by a pitcher
02:44on the Arizona Diamondbacks.
02:46Later on in the game, tempers flared when they returned the favor, hitting a player
02:52on Arizona.
02:53Now, needless to say, Torrey Lovello went out to the mound, was fighting with the umpires
02:58behind home plate.
02:59He was ejected.
03:00He didn't agree with it.
03:01Also said after the game, Lovello said that he would never hit Bobby Wood Jr.
03:05He's one of the faces of baseball.
03:07Meanwhile, on the flip side, can't be not too happy either.
03:09Matt Cortaro, the manager of the Royals, saw his catcher, Salvador Perez, getting in the
03:14middle of the fracas and said Salvi was just defending his teammate.
03:18Well, Salvi's fired up every day.
03:20I mean, that's how he plays.
03:22You know, and he said early in the game after a home run, that's the best player I've ever
03:27played with.
03:28You know, and that's a big thing to put on his shoulders.
03:33And Salvi cares more than anybody, not only for winning games, but for this city and this
03:38franchise.
03:39And that's the passion he plays with.
03:42That's the joy he brings to the game every day.
03:44Yes, that's why he's the captain.
03:46He's protecting all the guys.
03:47He's got everyone's back.
03:48So it's pretty special to have a teammate like him on your team because things like
03:53that happen.
03:54He's the first one up, first from there.
03:55And I don't know if I'd want to mess with him.
03:59Salvador Perez, long time Kansas City Royal and going strong still.
04:02All right, let's get to some other news in Major League Baseball.
04:05Not the news you want to see if you want an active trade deadline, but here's the Chicago
04:09Cubs are not going to be in the mix to add whether or not they subtract still remains
04:14to be seen.
04:15Jed Hoyer running the show in Chicago told reporters yesterday that the moves they make
04:19will be the future in 2025, not necessarily anything for 2024.
04:25Meanwhile, the Seattle Mariners offense takes another step back after designating Ty France
04:30for assignment.
04:31J.P. Crawford is now going on the injured list with fractured pinkies, hanging on to
04:35dear life in the American League playoff picture.
04:38Mike Trout is beginning a rehab assignment, AAA Salt Lake on Tuesday night.
04:43He's been out since April the 29th with a torn meniscus.
04:46He had surgery on May the 3rd.
04:48In Major League Baseball tonight, it is Paul Skeen's day for Pittsburgh.
04:52We saw him in the All-Star game.
04:54Now we're going to see him face off against the St. Louis Cardinals.
04:57The Phillies take on the twins with Zach Wheeler and the Braves, minus Ozzie Alves and Ronald
05:02Acuna Jr.
05:03And a lot of other players will take on Cincinnati Reds this evening.
05:06Jamar Chase waiting for a new contract offer for the Cincinnati Bengals may not happen
05:11before the season begins unless there is just posturing going on.
05:15Mike Brown, the team president, at an annual luncheon said that opportunities can arise
05:21unexpectedly, but contracts aren't currently ideal to sign Chase to an extension before
05:27camp begins.
05:29So basically saying, quote, it's not so likely that this is a good time to negotiate.
05:33The offseason is a better time for that.
05:36So we're going to be focused on football.
05:38Stay tuned to see if Jamar Chase gets a new contract.
05:40Hassan Redick, one of the best defensive pass rushers in the NFL, was moved to New York
05:45Jets in the offseason looking for a new contract.
05:48The Jets traded a 20-26 third-round pick to get Redick.
05:51Meanwhile, Redick says he can't play until he gets a new contract.
05:55So holdout underway for Redick with the Jets.
05:58Gerard Mayo making a very intriguing announcement this morning, saying that it looks like Jacoby
06:04Brissette is the most pro-ready quarterback they have at the NFL quarterback position.
06:09My goodness.
06:10It looks like he is the backup to open the season for the Patriots.
06:14And also, as we've talked about several times before, the Bears have allowed Jonathan Owens
06:18to miss seven training camp days to go watch his wife, USA gymnast Simone Biles, to compete
06:25in Paris.
06:26And of course, that gets underway this weekend.
06:28Meanwhile, Andy Murray, one of the greatest United States tennis players of all time,
06:33three-time Grand Slam champion, has announced that he's going to retire from tennis after
06:37the Paris Olympics.
06:3919-year career, 37-years-old Murray drew from Wimbledon earlier this month after failing
06:45to recover from a spinal cyst.
06:48And naturally, a great career coming to an end for him.
06:51Tiger Woods watched his son, Charlie, play at the U.S. Junior Amateur Tournament.
06:56Charlie shot a 12-over-82 on Monday.
06:59Woods said that he's still qualified.
07:02Needless to say, Charlie would have probably done his best performance thus far, although
07:06he did play a lot better in Coral Springs last month.
07:10There are several Olympic series that have been announced.
07:13One is going to be very intriguing for a lot of people watching, and that is Conor Stallions.
07:18I don't know if you remember his name, who is allegedly involved in this sign-stealing
07:23scheme within the Michigan football team before the Wolverines went on to win the championship.
07:29With a fourth season coming for Untold on Netflix, Stallions will be the subject of
07:34one of them.
07:35Also, former NFL coach Steve McNair is another topic that they're going to be covering as well.
07:42And also, the NBA finally wrapped up their summer league, and the champions of the summer
07:48league ends up being the Miami Heat, 1-20-20 to defeat the Memphis Grizzlies.
07:55And that is the final.
07:56By the way, in summer league overtime rules, both teams play to a target score rather than
08:01a clock, and the target score was set to 120 points.
08:05The Heat hit that, and they end up winning the summer league championship.
