00:00A historic and record night in the WNBA.
00:09Kaitlyn Clark now holds a new notch in the history books, in the history of the W.
00:1519 assists last night for the Indiana Fever against the Dallas Wings.
00:21The most we have ever seen in a single game in the history of the WNBA.
00:26Courtney Vandersloot held the old record.
00:28She now plays, of course, for the New York Liberty.
00:31But back in her days with the Chicago Sky, had 18 dimes, rather, against Indiana back
00:37during the 2020 campaign.
00:39Kaitlyn Clark, a new record.
00:4119 assists, just 26 games into her WNBA career.
00:48However, it was in a losing effort on the road yesterday against the Dallas Wings,
00:53one of the worst teams in all of the W.
00:56Dallas Wings outright as a four-point home underdog, 101-93.
01:02Enrique Agumbo-Walle, huge day leading Dallas in scoring once again.
01:06And Donny, as we were breaking down this game yesterday, only a three-and-a-half point spread
01:10for the Fever on the road, having won two straight, entering the basketball game against
01:15teams with a winning record in Phoenix and Minnesota.
01:18It felt like a fishy line.
01:20It came to fruition yesterday on the final day of the WNBA regular season before the
01:25All-Star and Olympic break.
01:27It's crazy, too, because if you would have told me before the game, we're going to get
01:30a 24-19 effort out of Kaitlyn Clark, that should be an easy win going away.
01:34It might even be an easy win going away against some of the better teams in the WNBA, let
01:38alone a team that entered into the equation at 5-19.
01:42But sometimes the focus might just be on the weekend, as opposed to in the weekday game
01:48that you had.
01:49That's a bad effort.
01:50101-93, awesome for Kaitlyn Clark, fantastic to go up there and say, you know what, nobody's
01:54ever done this before.
01:55You love to see those stats pile up.
01:57But that's one of those where if you would have asked her, I'd rather have five assists
02:00than us pick up the victory there, that's a bad loss, which again, every win at that
02:04level for the Fever is going to keep them in that playoff race.
02:07You're supposed to beat the Wings.
02:09That's a loss against the field right there, if we're using golf terms.
02:12Minnesota, a victory yesterday as well.
02:15Kayla McBride pours in 30 to lead the Lynx to a win.
02:18The Commissioners Cup champs, who had struggled since that trophy, losing five of their last
02:23eight entering yesterday.
02:25But the Atlanta Dream in the longest active skid right now in the W, eight straight games.
02:30So let's put this into context, what Kaitlyn Clark did yesterday in her final game before
02:35a much-deserved Olympic break.
02:37Yes, you can scream and yell that she should be a part of Team USA, and frankly, you might
02:42have a point after her early season struggles in the W, but she has played so much basketball
02:49since November that I'm sure she'll enjoy a couple of weeks off here during this break.
02:55The only game in the history of the WNBA a player has recorded at least 20 points,
03:0015 assists, and five rebounds.
03:03Another historic performance for Kaitlyn Clark, 19 dimes, a single game record in the history
03:09of the WNBA.
03:10In DRS, it's her third game of 20 points and 13 assists this season, really coming in the
03:18last two and a half weeks.
03:20That's three career games for Kaitlyn Clark in only 26 that she has had at least 20 points
03:26and 13 assists.
03:28That's the most a single player has had in her career in the history in the WNBA, and
03:36she's done it in only 26 games.
03:39Yeah, it's amazing also.
03:40So you try to expound on and say, well, she is in the all-star game, which is going to
03:43bring those ratings.
03:44But quite frankly, she probably should have been on the Olympic team as well.
03:48And it's not one of those, hey, Bronnie James should be in the NBA as far as LeBron.
03:52No, Kaitlyn Clark certainly earned her way into this as the number one overall pick in
03:55playing great basketball and would have sent that Olympic team to the next level.
03:59Not next level and being like, well, we don't expect them to win gold.
04:02They always win that, but just the level of attention, which is the most important thing.
04:05Shine that spotlight on women's basketball as much as you can on the biggest stages that
04:10you can.
04:11That was a really lost opportunity.
04:14So still we will get to see her on display on Saturday night in Phoenix in the all-star
04:20game, but not in the three-point contest.
04:23I don't know how that decision was made.
04:25It's Team USA versus Team WNBA All-Stars in that all-star game on Saturday night.
04:32Team USA, a four and a half point favorite.
04:35They're coached by Cheryl Reeve, the head coach of the Minnesota Lynx.
04:39Team WNBA All-Stars coached by Cheryl Miller, one of the most historic women's basketball
04:44players of all time.
04:47Only a four and a half point spread, Donnie, for the Americans who are such a hefty favorite
04:51to win the gold medal in Paris.
04:53That seems a little bit fishy as well.
04:56I think Team WNBA All-Stars going to give the Americans a run for their money.
05:01By the way, why is she not in the three-point contest though?
05:05Is it because the Lynx coach didn't want the distractions at the all-star game?
05:09Why wouldn't she be in that?
05:11She's one of the best three-point shooters and longest distance three-point shooters
05:13we've ever seen in the women's game.
05:15She's not in that?
05:16It's crazy, man.
05:17It really is.
05:19Seems like a miss once again.
05:21Hour three on the other side of the break here on The Early Line.
