00:00Good news for those looking for a job abroad, Singapore will open a job for Filipinos, especially those in the health sector.
00:10This is accompanied by the Philippine-Singapore Friendship Week.
00:13This is Noel Talacan's report.
00:16For the second time, Angeline will fly back to Singapore to work as a domestic worker there.
00:24Anya, Singapore again, because her situation there was better than the first time.
00:31I wanted to go back to Singapore, sir, because Singapore is a very clean country and they are good in giving salaries.
00:40According to her, she feels the importance of the Singapore government to migrant workers like her there.
00:47They are given, like if you get sick, the employers bring you to the clinic and give you medicine.
00:59Today, the Philippine-Singapore Friendship Week was held by the Department of Migrant Workers,
01:05led by Secretary Hans Layokakdak, along with other officials, ambassadors to Singapore, the Philippines and other officials of the country.
01:17We're very thankful to the government of Singapore, the Republic of Singapore, a long-standing protector,
01:25a long-standing promoter of harmonious relations and the rights of migrant workers, OFWs, in Singapore.
01:35Aside from the activities, aside from taking care of the rights and interests of OFWs in Singapore,
01:43this will also open up many jobs for Filipinos, especially when it comes to health-related jobs, such as nurses.
01:53We have announced that we will be needing a lot more healthcare and allied healthcare workers, including nursing aides,
02:02and so there has been a push to recruit more of them.
02:07I don't have a figure right now, but I would say that we welcome nurses from around the world, but also especially in the Philippines.
02:16According to the DMW, there are 215,000 Filipinos in Singapore.
02:23Of these, 180,600 or 84% are OFWs, of which 108,000 are skilled workers and over 72,000 are domestic workers.
02:38Singapore is the first country in Asia to join the Friendship Week of the Philippines through the DMW to strengthen the friendship between the two countries.
