00:00Farmers affected by Hurricane Christine will receive insurance and a loan program prepared by the government.
00:08This is the national news of Kate Pilotin of Radyo Pilipinas.
00:14Agriculture is one of the sectors that is severely affected by Hurricane Christine.
00:19It is estimated that more than P3 billion was lost from its obvious income.
00:24But aside from farming, the livelihood of farmers is also affected.
00:29According to the Department of Agriculture, 74,554 farmers in the Philippines are affected.
00:37That is why the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation or PCIC is now eager to pay the farmers affected by the hurricane.
00:45According to the PCIC's computation, each farmer will receive P20,000 if they have their own farm
00:53while those receiving loans or without their own income will receive P68,000 to P78,000.
01:01According to Melba Manalo, Vice President for Corporate Business Affairs Group of PCIC,
01:07beneficiaries will receive their payment within 20 days.
01:12The standing order is 20 working days or the time that we are following so that we can fulfill the payment to our beneficiaries.
01:26We are trying to expedite our payment to the Philippines, especially since there are so many now.
01:39Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture passed under the Agricultural Credit Policy Council or ACPC a loan of P500 million.
01:48Under the Survival and Recovery or Sure Loan Program,
01:52a farmer may be able to borrow P25,000 or P25,000 that can be paid within three years of no interest.
02:03According to ACPC Spokesperson Emmalyn Guinto,
02:07this is a move by the government to help farmers start their livelihood again.
02:13Our intention here is to provide immediate relief so that they can start and recover and start their farming and fishing.
02:28The two agencies are urging their farmers to be insured so that they can be assured that they will be able to survive during the typhoon.
