00:25Hey everyone, welcome to the Big 3 NBA Podcast.
00:28I'm Kwani Lunas, joined by, as always, H5 Blakely, Gary Washburn.
00:33It's summer, but our podcast does not sleep, because the NBA doesn't sleep.
00:37How are you two doing?
00:38Have you two actually taken a breather?
00:39Let's start with that.
00:40No.
00:41Since the season's ended.
00:42On that grind.
00:43On that grind.
00:44I went from, you know, the NBA and the finals and all that fun stuff to dealing with high
00:49school kids, teaching journalism at BU.
00:51It's been alright.
00:52It hasn't been as bad as I thought.
00:55That sounds like a dream.
00:56What about you, Gary?
00:58Yeah, I haven't really taken much of a break.
01:00I've been working on some extra stuff.
01:03Finishing up my book.
01:05So wait, another book?
01:07Yeah, I have a book coming out.
01:10Tell us.
01:11And another one.
01:12Please.
01:13If you don't mind.
01:14And another one.
01:15This is called Boston Celtics, an Illustrated Timeline, which is a pictorial history of
01:20the organization.
01:22And so I picked about 180 moments in Celtics history and wrote about them so fans of all
01:29ages can look back at their history.
01:31And it's all the way till the championship.
01:34So we covered everything, obviously the 2024 season, the finals, Jalen winning the awards,
01:42and Missoula, all the stuff that has gone down, all up until the championship is covered.
01:52We've got a section in there on Vinny Goodwill asking Joe Missoula about being a black coach.
01:57That actually should be one of the moments, actually.
02:00No, I left that.
02:02It's on the cutting board.
02:03Cutting history.
02:04Once again.
02:05Rewriting history.
02:06Once again.
02:07Anyway.
02:08Black man cut out history.
02:09Yeah, so that's the...
02:10Your book's going to be out later this summer and hope to do some appearances and sign
02:16some for Celtic fans and say it's a history.
02:19If you don't know the history of the Celtics, and obviously it's a rich history and all
02:23you think is Russell and Koozie, there's a lot more, we detail all the championships
02:29and all the ups and some of the downs of the franchise and how they got here to the Banner
02:3618.
02:37If I didn't ask you how you were doing, were you going to ever tell us this?
02:40He wasn't.
02:41Well, it's all...
02:42I don't want to jinx myself.
02:44I get it.
02:45I respect that.
02:46Yeah.
02:47I wasn't going to talk about it and then it's like, what was that Jay-Z album that never
02:51came out?
02:52I see what you're saying.
02:53I get you.
02:54I get you.
02:55Yeah.
02:56It's like, whatever happened to...
02:57So I didn't really tell people until the last couple of weeks where we're getting into
03:03the final stages, but I think it'll be a fun read.
03:06And like I said, for Celtic fans and that's what we tried for all ages too.
03:12If you're young teenagers, you want to know about Bill Russell, you've never only seen
03:16the grainy photos and want to know more about him and Koozie and guys like Bill Sharman
03:22and Dave Cowens and Jojo White, names we only hear, it will be in the book.
03:29Well, that's an exclusive for our listeners and viewers.
03:32And I imagine most of you are Celtics fans or Celtics adjacents.
03:36Well, way until now though too.
03:38That's beautiful.
03:39It's going to come out this summer.
03:41It's Garnett, Allen, Rondo, all, like everybody that's been a part of the franchise, Big Perk,
03:49all of them-
03:50Big Baby?
03:51You got Big Baby in there?
03:52Big Baby.
03:53We got a Big Baby.
03:54Because you know Big Baby-
03:55Live from jail.
03:56That's not funny.
03:57I'm sorry.
03:58Honestly, he's a comedian.
03:59So if he did hear that, I apologize.
04:00But I like jokes too, okay?
04:01I'm a jokester.
04:02Listen, if Big Baby is a comedian, I really hope that in jail he works for the stand-up.
04:03I really hope he works for the stand-up.
04:04I really hope he works for the stand-up.
04:05I really hope he works for the stand-up.
04:06I really hope he works for the stand-up.
04:07I really hope he works for the stand-up.
04:09Okay, in my defense also, I interviewed him right before he went on tour here in Massachusetts.
04:23And then I think the shows ended up getting canceled because he had violated his parole.
04:27Probation.
04:28Yeah, after the-
04:29Too much Celtics drama.
04:30Yeah.
04:31Now he's going to jail.
04:32Sorry that he had to take a strain on that one.
04:33But I'm looking forward to this book.
04:34I want an autographed copy.
04:35Sherrod does as well.
04:36We should actually do a live podcast.
04:37I want two copies.
04:38I want two autographed copies.
04:39Let's do a live podcast somewhere.
04:40Like in public so people can get the book.
04:41Of course.
04:42Not here.
04:43Boom.
04:44Shout out to Sheldon.
04:45I'll be your hype man, Gary.
04:46I just start bringing people in on that.
04:47Look.
04:48I'll be your hype man.
04:49I appreciate that.
04:50All right.
04:51We have an event planned for summer.
04:52We'll keep you all updated.
04:53Of course, stick with us.
04:54We'll let you guys know.
04:55Exactly.
04:56And we'll make sure that you get the book.
04:57We'll make sure that you get the book.
04:58We'll make sure that you get the book.
04:59We'll make sure that you get the book.

07:54We'll make sure that you get the book.
07:55We'll make sure that you get the book.
07:56We'll make sure that you get the book.
07:57We'll make sure that you get the book.
07:58We'll make sure that you get the book.
07:59We'll make sure that you get the book.
08:00We'll make sure that you get the book.
08:01We'll make sure that you get the book.
08:02We'll make sure that you get the book.
08:03We'll make sure that you get the book.
08:04We'll make sure that you get the book.
08:05We'll make sure that you get the book.
08:06We'll make sure that you get the book.
08:07We'll make sure that you get the book.
08:08We'll make sure that you get the book.
08:09We'll make sure that you get the book.
08:10We'll make sure that you get the book.
08:11We'll make sure that you get the book.
08:12We'll make sure that you get the book.
08:13We'll make sure that you get the book.
08:14We'll make sure that you get the book.
08:15We'll make sure that you get the book.
08:16We'll make sure that you get the book.
08:17We'll make sure that you get the book.
08:18We'll make sure that you get the book.
08:20We're going to take Eddie House's son.
08:23So, I like the fact that it's really competitive,
08:26but the guy that I'm most looking forward to seeing
08:29is Jordan Walsh, because I think he's the one guy
08:33whose upside is great enough to where we can start
08:37seeing some of that next season.
08:39He's the one guy that I think could play his way into,
08:42I wouldn't say a major role, but certainly a guy
08:44that can compete for a rotation spot next season
08:47because you look at his athleticism.
08:48You look at just the way he's able to defend.
08:51And you look to me at one of the most notable voids
08:55on his Celtics roster is having a defensive,
08:58versatile wing off that bench.
09:00Hauser is a good shooter.
09:02He's a great shooter.
09:03He ain't locking nobody up defensively.
09:05He does a solid job defensively.
09:07He doesn't have that ability to really defend
09:10at an elite level.
09:11Peyton Pritchard's too little, but he plays good defense.
09:14But again, he's not able to defend one, twos, and threes
09:17where Jordan Walsh could.
09:18And if Jordan can show the ability to knock down shots,
09:22that creates a completely different conversation
09:25and narrative about him going into training camp
09:27to where he can be a guy that can play his way
09:30into more than just spot duty role.
09:32He can potentially be a guy that can be in that rotation
09:34sooner rather than later.
09:35The Boston Celtics just added another championship
09:38to their NBA record 18 titles, but there's plenty of games
09:41to keep the diehard sports fans and the casuals
09:44more than happy.
09:45You can get in on the action with PrizePix,
09:47America's number one daily fantasy sports app

09:52PrizePix is the easiest and most exciting way

09:56Unlike other apps, on PrizePix, it's just you

10:09You can now win up to 100 times your money on PrizePix

10:16Now for the mathematically challenge,
10:18here's what that means.

10:24Jalen Brown, Jason Tatum, and the rest of the Boston Celtics
10:27are still celebrating, but that doesn't mean the basketball
10:30stops bouncing with PrizePix.
10:32Women's basketball is still heating up with stars
10:34like Kaitlin Clark and Angel Reese looking to make names
10:37for themselves alongside some of the WNBA greats
10:40such as Breanna Stewart and Asia Wilson.
10:42You can win up to 100 times your cash watching them
10:45ball out this summer.
10:46For me, I love the ease and convenience PrizePix offers
10:50by being able to pick more or less on two to six players.
10:53It's super easy to get involved and it's a lot of fun.
10:56So to get in on the fun, just download the PrizePix app today
11:01and use code CLNS for a first deposit match up to $100.
11:05That's code CLNS, downloading the PrizePix app
11:09and use the code CLNS for a first deposit match up to $100.
11:14Pick more, pick less.
11:16It's that easy.
11:21You mentioned some Nepo babies, you mentioned the Celtics
11:25players that are kind of returning to Summer League,
11:27but who do you think has to impress the most this summer?
11:31You know, the guy I think that really needs to have
11:34a strong Summer League for a couple different reasons
11:37is Keita.
11:38I think he's the one guy that he has a skill set
11:41that when you look at this active roster,
11:43you don't have a guy, to me, he's like a light Robert Williams
11:48in terms of his shot blocking ability,
11:50in terms of his ability to impact the game at that end of the floor.
11:54I think he's a better offensive scorer than Rob.
11:57I mean, he actually has some moves that we've seen him execute.
12:00Rob was just Mr. Lob and that was pretty much it.
12:02Keita, I think, needs to show that he's the best player
12:05or certainly one of the best players on this Celtic Summer League roster
12:09so that he can end any questions and doubts about what he could do
12:12once he gets more playing time.
12:14He's a guy that, again, I could see with,
12:16since we're presenting this out, you know, for the spell early on,
12:19I could see him with a strong Summer League,
12:22using that to springboard into a strong training camp
12:24and potentially be a regular in that rotation
12:27and compete with Luke Cornett for playing time off that Celtics bench
12:30or possibly as a kind of substitute fill-in starter.
12:35There's two guys, actually.
12:37One, Drew Peterson.
12:39I think we need to see what he can do.
12:42I mean, he's played mostly in the G League.
12:45He's a kid out of USC who played a long time at USC
12:49and, you know, should be kind of ready to take that next step
12:53because remember, like, with Sam Howser being a free agent after the season,
12:57they're going to have to kind of find a Howser replacement.
13:01And is Drew Peterson that guy that can kind of fill that role?
13:05Achievement at that, Drew. Achievement at that.
13:08I'm looking forward to a big Summer League from Drew Peterson
13:12and also Jaden Springer.
13:14You know, he's a guy who it's like you're wondering, okay,
13:21they like his defense.
13:23Can he play offense?
13:24What does Jaden Springer bring to the table?
13:26What does he do well?
13:28Can he score?
13:29Can he run the point?
13:30Is he a two?
13:32I think they got to figure him out,
13:34and he's got to figure out how he can contribute to his team more next year.
13:39So I think those are the two guys I think they need to show.
13:43Davidson, I think it's going to be more during the G League season
13:47and maybe trying to get some minutes for the big club.
13:51I think that's his goal.
13:52Cato, I think Cato is going to actually be all right.
13:56I don't think they would have re-signed him
13:58if they didn't like his potential.
14:00But the two guys, I said Springer I'm intrigued by because it's now, okay,
14:06he should be starting on this team maybe
14:08and should get some quality minutes.
14:10And in the same with Drew Peterson,
14:12like you want to see those guys take that step to like,
14:16because now you're in your second or third Summer League,
14:18it's time to be one of the best players on the floor.
14:21The thing about Springer, Gary, just to kind of piggyback off of that,
14:25is when you watch him play, he does remind,
14:28at least he reminds me a little bit of like sort of kind of,
14:32but not really Avery Bradley.
14:34Is he a one? Is he a two?
14:35He's not really a great shooter, but he's got a certain level of athleticism.
14:39He's no more for his defensive acumen than what he can do as a scorer.
14:43And it took Avery going to the G League to figure out, oh damn,
14:50I need to do this back with the big fellas.
14:52And, you know, I was watching a real,
14:54the other day of Kevin Garnett talking with Avery Bradley.
14:57Yeah.
14:58Well, he basically said Avery went to the G League,
15:01came back and like first play in practice.
15:03He dunked on, what was it? Perk? I think it was Perk.
15:06And so, and, and, you know,
15:08KG was talking about how Avery was saying, I'm not going back there.
15:12I am not going back there.
15:13And I wonder if Jaden Springer needs to have a moment like that,
15:16because he's been in the,
15:17he's been in the NBA at the end of the bench for a hot minute now.
15:20And does he need to be reminded of just how precious that roster spot
15:25is and an NBA roster by spending a little time in the G League because
15:29his,
15:30what you see in games and what you have seen from an athleticism
15:35standpoint, it doesn't add up.
15:36It's there's something not happening that should be happening with this
15:39game. When you have that type of athleticism,
15:42you should be making an impact in some way,
15:44whether it's defensively locking kids up or just getting out and passing
15:49lanes, creating your office with your defense.
15:52He needs to be doing something that shows that he's not,
15:54he's doing more than just taking up a roster spot.
15:58And Summer League is a perfect place for that to happen because we know,
16:01I mean, you sure are in Summer League. You put yourself. I mean,
16:05think about a guy like Austin Reeves in LA.
16:07It was Summer League that he all of a sudden became his duty. Like, oh damn,
16:11he might be able to ball a little bit.
16:13They need him. They need Jaden Springer to really, I think,
16:16showcase what he can do at this level.
16:18Because so far he just hasn't done that.
16:21Are there any people that are on the, any roster?
16:23It doesn't have to just be the Celtics one,
16:26but is there anyone that you think should be considered a wild card at this
16:30point too?
16:31You know what? This is the one and only time I'm going to mention his name on
16:34this podcast, at least today, because I still got some stock in him.
16:39And that's my good friend, Romeo Langford.
16:42He's on a six. He's on a six or Summer League roster.
16:45And I'm,
16:46I'm curious to see if the trials and tribulations that he's gone through after
16:50he left Boston, when he was, when he was in San Antonio, is he,
16:54cause he's at that point where he's just basically at his last NBA lifeline at
16:58this point. I mean, if he plays,
17:03if he, if he plays like crap for the six or Summer League team,
17:07we may not see Romeo Langford in the NBA.
17:09He might want to make sure that passport is updated and you know,
17:15shout out to the Turkish basketball league and shout out to the Adriatic
17:18basketball league.
17:20Yeah. Cause he, he,
17:21he might be playing for Finnebaccio Kerr or something like that in a hot
17:24minute. So this is,
17:29it's a squad.
17:33Oh gosh.
17:35So we went from Romeo Summer League to Cardi B. Ain't that something?
17:40Look at us.
17:42Gary, we everywhere. Gary's not liking that. But the point is this.
17:46So Romeo has to show up and show out to really just,
17:50if not for the Sixers for those other teams that are there who might,
17:54who still might have some interest in Romeo,
17:56but they're skittish because he hasn't really shown a lot in the NBA.
18:00And the thing that's frustrating for me about Romeo is that he is shown in
18:05flashes of being a really solid NBA player.
18:09I mean, I think about some of the games you have for Boston were defensively.
18:12He was on a clear and undeniable different level than what we have seen for
18:17the most part. He was locking them guys. He was moving his feet.
18:20Well, getting in passing lanes, contesting shots,
18:22doing all those things because he has a great body for this league.
18:26He's long, he can move. Well, he's,
18:29I think his defensive instincts are pretty good,
18:31but for some reason it all doesn't come together when it needs to come
18:35together. And hopefully he'll do enough for the Sixers or Summer League.
18:38Squad to impress, if not Philly,
18:40certainly one of the other teams that'll certainly be watching.
18:45Yeah. Not really looking forward to seeing Romeo.
18:48Cause that's my dude. I still, I still got love for Romeo.
18:52I think Romeo doesn't take the game seriously enough. And I just, I don't know.
18:56He just doesn't seem to want it. And this is,
18:58some guys are like that and it's just how it is, unfortunately.
19:02And people can want it for him, but Romeo's got to want to be great.
19:06He's got to want to stay healthy. I remember
19:10when we went to go see where we're in Salt Lake City
19:14and Isaiah Thomas was playing in the G-League for the Salt Lake City G-League
19:18team. They were playing the Wisconsin team. And like,
19:20I think Romeo was on that Salt Lake and he was hurt again.
19:24And it was just sort of like, he was at the end of the bench.
19:26And he just, it was just sort of like joking with guys.
19:29It was just like, you should be out there. Like this is like,
19:31what are you doing? So for me, I'm just not high on Romeo anymore.
19:35I just, he just didn't, he just doesn't want it.
19:40And, you know,
19:42I think some guys come into the NBA and they just don't have,
19:45they lack the drive and they're there because they're pretty good.
19:48And when the league exposes that, you don't have that drive.
19:52You want to be great. And you're probably headed out.
19:57Two guys, one I've already seen,
20:00and I'm really impressed last night with Zach Eady from Memphis.
20:04Like he was, he was pushing around Walker Kessler of the Utah Jazz.
20:09That was a great matchup for him. And he had,
20:13he held his more than held his own. I was impressed.
20:16I want to see him in person, how he adjusted the NBA game,
20:20but they played Utah Jazz last night. I watched it and he was,
20:24he's playing very, very well. I was impressed.
20:27The second guy is Alex Saar from the Atlanta Hawks. It's the number two pick.
20:32Somebody in this class has got to win rookie of the year.
20:36Somebody got to take this trophy. Somebody got to eat this chicken.
20:40It'll be very fascinating to see how Vegas has, has the odds.
20:44Will it be the number one pick? The kid's going to Atlanta.
20:48Will it be Alex Saar? Sorry, Alex Saar is not going to Atlanta.
20:51He didn't want to play Atlanta. He went to Washington Wizards.
20:55And I'm, I'm very intrigued to see what he can do. You know,
20:59and obviously there's a lot of the guys, Reed Shepard from Houston,
21:03Dillingham from Minnesota. There's a lot of guys that, you know,
21:07Baylor, you know, Baylor Shireman, let's see how he does with the Celtics.
21:11But he's a guy I'm looking for. And we can all say, you know, you know,
21:17Bronnie James, you know, he's going to be in that big stage at first night.
21:20It's going to be a nighttime game at the big arena.
21:23All the Laker fans are going to, I'm sure, drive down from LA to Vegas.
21:27And it's going to be a packed house. We'll see if LeBron, you know,
21:32I don't know where Team USA will be located. Maybe LeBron gets out there.
21:36I know he's in Vegas now. I don't know if he will be there Friday
21:40to see his son's debut in Vegas. He's already made his debut.
21:44So, but there's a lot of interesting names.
21:47And as you, as Sharad pointed out, there's a lot of guys
21:51probably on that last chance train of this is your last summer league guy.
21:55Like, what you going to do? And Romeo is one of those guys.
21:59Yeah, my, my, and we can talk about this another time.
22:02But the guy that I'm looking at for rookie of the year is Stephon Castle,
22:05kid from UConn, playing for the Spurs. That's a great fit.
22:09He's a bucket getter and that team is going to be better.
22:12He's going to get more. He's going to get shine because he's playing
22:14with Wimby. So that's my early pick for rookie of the year.
22:20Yeah, you have one?
22:23Honestly, no.
22:26Give him till end of summer league at least.
22:29I might say connect from the Lakers.
22:32That was my number two pick. I think he'll be right.
22:34And also, hold on, there's a Kalel Ware from Miami Heat,
22:37the Indiana center. They're really impressed with him down there.
22:40They made him, the Heat's taking some shots this summer.
22:44They lost Caleb Martin, even though he took less money to go to Philadelphia.
22:48Miami really hasn't done much in free agency, but they did.
22:52They do draft well. And the kid Kalel Ware from Indiana, a big man.
22:57They'll be able to slide out of aisle to the floor.
23:00I think he's going to really help them.
23:02And I think he's going to be some player, some play player to watch too.
23:06You want to catch the hottest games this summer,
23:07but don't want to mortgage the family home or take a second job to do so, right?
23:12Game time makes getting tickets to events like WNBA games even faster and easier.
23:17Prices on the game time app actually go down the closer it gets to tip off.
23:21With killer last minute deals, all in prices,
23:24views from your seat and their lowest price guarantee,
23:27game time takes the guesswork out of buying tickets.
23:30That's a huge get when it comes to getting great deals at the ballpark
23:33or basketball arena nearest you.
23:34Here in Boston, every season is sporting season.
23:37So for me, the game time app makes it super easy to find tickets
23:40for just about every sport in my area, which is great this time of year
23:44when family and friends just happen to pop into town at the last minute
23:47and you're scrambling to find something to do.
23:49And you're trying to find something to do that won't break the bank,
23:52like getting tickets to see the red hot Red Sox play
23:55or playing some of their best baseball right now.
23:57Game time has you covered.
23:59So take the guesswork out of buying tickets with game time.

24:20All right.
24:22Stepping away from the rookies, let's talk about the vets.
24:24Team USA, also in Vegas, like you mentioned right now.
24:26Sherrod, the two Celtics are there right now.
24:28What are your expectations from Tatum and Drew Holiday specifically?
24:33Well, last go around Tatum averaged like 15 points,
24:36some change for Team USA.
24:38So clearly he's a guy that we know can get buckets playing
24:41with the best of the best, which is what Team USA is about.
24:44And he got a fresh haircut for the record.
24:46The most important part was buried.
24:48Yeah, exactly.
24:50Let's, yeah.
24:52And Kwanee with the fresh dew is feeling that.
24:54She's feeling that fresh dew vibe.
24:56I understand it Tatum, I understand.
24:58You get it, you get it.
25:00But I think Tatum's just going to do what he normally does.
25:03He's going to be a double-digit score.
25:05He's going to make some plays.
25:07But you know, when you listen to the players talk about
25:09this particular Team USA, you don't get the feeling that,
25:12you know, there's going to be any, you know, deferential treatment
25:15or anything even close to that for Tatum, even though he just
25:18won a championship.
25:20I think Anthony Edwards has verbally said, it's going to be,
25:23he's going to be the number one option.
25:25And if I'm Tatum, I'm like, all right,
25:28we don't, we got like seven, eight guys who could be the number
25:31one option and we can win the gold with any of them.
25:33So if you want to go out there and Jack up all them shots
25:35and wear your body down over these next few weeks,
25:38go right ahead and do that.
25:40Drew Holiday, I worry about because when you start thinking
25:43about just the miles that his body has logged the last couple
25:46of years, basketball wise.
25:48I really hope that Drew plays the least amount of minutes
25:51on a team. That's my, that's what I would like to see
25:53because I think he, I just want to see that dude rest.
25:56I want to see him do not. I want to not see a basketball game
26:01or a series come about with Drew Holiday on it, on the roster
26:05or Drew Holiday playing. I want to see him rest because I just
26:08think he's getting to that point age-wise where he just can't
26:11hit the B button and be that dude. We saw in the playoffs
26:13just like that. It's going to be much hard over time for him
26:16to be that impactful. And the more time he gets to shut it
26:19down and just rest and not have to deal with basketball and not
26:23do basketball activities. The better he's going to be for the
26:26Celtics next season. So Tatum, I think he'll play as usual
26:30minutes and get you double-digit points. Drew. I'm hoping
26:33that they limit his role because I just think that in the long
26:36term, that's going to be the best for both him and the Celtics.
26:40Yeah, I'm looking forward. It'll be interesting who starts
26:44because you got KD, you got Braun and you got Curry. You
26:49got to think those three guys are going to start just because
26:52of seniority. So does Anthony Edwards even start? Do you put
26:56a lineup and do you put a holiday or Tatum or, you know,
27:00it'll be interesting to see if they mix and match their
27:02starting lineups. Do you put, you know, Anthony Davis? Where
27:06do you put him? Do you put him at the five? You put out a bio
27:11there. It'll be interesting. You got a lot of guys on a team
27:15and you could put holiday as the two just as a defensive stopper
27:20if you play Curry at the one. So I'm intrigued to see the
27:22starting lineups because you have so much talent, you know,
27:28the guy. The thing is interesting to me is like the
27:34choice of picking the teams of grant. He'll just pick guys.
27:37There was really no tryouts and you got a guy like Jalen Brown
27:41who's like, I just want to MVP the finals. I just want to MVP
27:44the Easter Conference finals and I ain't even like I'm
27:48chilling at home. Yeah. And then you got Devin Booker, who's
27:52the first round, who's obviously very talented player, but not
27:57coming off a great year, you know, and he's there and I just
28:00think that if I'm Jalen, like if, if, if the criticism he
28:06received last year, if it didn't fire him up, he should be
28:10fired up even more because I just think and then remember
28:14Devin Booker kind of took his spot on all NBA team too. So,
28:18you know, I'm sure he's asking. Okay, like besides he can see
28:22can drop buckets. Devin don't play defense. Like I do.
28:26He don't win his team ain't winning, but you know, he went
28:29to the finals a couple years ago. So you give him that in 21,
28:32but like why was he automatically the choice and I
28:36wasn't even considered. I think if you're Jalen Brown, you got
28:41to be a little upset about that. And I think that's a great
28:43debate whether Jalen should have been on that team and he
28:45best player in the finals, best player in each conference
28:49finals. And then there he's got to sit there and watch Devin
28:52Booker, you know, just hey, my team got eliminated swept in
28:56the first round, even, you know, I get it like with Braun,
29:00no choice, you know, he's gonna want to play. He gonna play.
29:04He should he's the man Curry. Obviously, he's still at the
29:08top of his game. Yeah, Katie still top of his game. But I
29:12think if you look if you're Jalen, you're looking at like
29:13Devin Booker and you're like, okay, he just automatically got
29:17chosen. Like there was no debate, you know, Kawhi coming
29:21off being hurt. You know, I get Kawhi. Kawhi's really never
29:24doesn't have a whole lot of experience with Team USA and
29:28you know, they want him to be part of it again. But the thing
29:31that would annoy me if I'm Jalen Brown is that including
29:35a Devin Booker like that would be like, okay, besides he can
29:40drop some buckets, but just automatically like I can't get
29:44no consideration. I mean, that's the thing. I think that would
29:49frustrate me and that should be motivation for him. You know,
29:52obviously the next Olympics is in 28, but you know, that's it
29:56high score, but I'm just I'm kind of like, you know, besides
30:02dropping buckets, you know, what is Devin do and and and
30:09I think Jalen's like I stopped Luka. I'm the best player on
30:13the floor in two series and I can't get no consideration.
30:16It's very interesting. Well, let's just say put it this way.
30:20If Jalen drops a 50-piece on the Suns next year, we don't know
30:25why we don't know. We don't know. He went into that game
30:28thinking. Okay, you might get that goal, but I'm about to hit
30:31you with this 50-piece. What you got? What you got about that?
30:34And I got the big goal. I got the Larry O'Brien goal. You got
30:36that little Olympic goal with the play with all them cats.
30:40Devin Booker is a great player. I mean, you look at him
30:42historically. I mean, he was the youngest player to ever score
30:4460 more points in the game. You know, he was the youngest
30:48player in NBA history to have back-to-back 50-point games.
30:51But again to your point, Gary, that's it. I mean his
30:56narrative is he gets buckets. Not that he's a winner. Not
31:01that he's a great all-around player, but that he gets
31:03buckets. And last I checked, if that's pretty much your claim
31:07to fame, that doesn't make you a great player. It makes you a
31:10very good player. It makes you a very good offensive player.
31:13Jalen has shown the ability to be a great all-around player.
31:17You look at what he does at both ends of the floor and you also
31:20look at the fact that and this I think gets so lost when you
31:23have conversation about Jalen. The dude has gotten better
31:26every single year, not just in terms of your eye test, but in
31:30terms statistically speaking, there's a part of his game that
31:33he's getting better every single year. Devin Booker can't
31:36say that. So you don't win as many games. You don't get
31:39better every year and I'm a better all-around player than
31:42you. And if you're Jalen, absolutely. You're looking at
31:45that thinking like, oh, okay. All right, Grant. That's how
31:48you want to call it? Okay. Okay. Phoenix is going to get that
31:5350-piece. Phoenix is going to get that 50-piece from Jalen
31:56next year. Count it. You can book it. Pun intended.
31:59So, when you talk about Tatum, we were talking about the title.
32:07There's reports about Drew talking about the Larry O'Brien
32:10training camp for Team USA. But what do you think this puts
32:14Tatum specifically when you talk about all-time great Celtics?
32:18Go ahead, Mr. Author of the all-time great Celtics. Take
32:24your book. I mean, this puts him, obviously, I think him
32:26and Jalen now, without question, get their number retired
32:31because, I mean, they won a championship and, you know,
32:34they brought prestige back to the organization. I think Tatum
32:39is getting to that. I mean, it all depends on how you look
32:42at it. You know, obviously, you got Bird and Russell. Whether
32:46you think one or two, two or one, I think some people believe
32:50Russell's unquestionably the greatest Celtic of all time.
32:52I tend to agree with that. Bird, two. Kuzi and Havlicek.
32:57And then it starts to get interesting. The list. Pierce
33:03got to go in there. McKellen and Pierce got to go in there.
33:06Cowans and JoJo White got to get in there. But I think if
33:10you're Tatum, he's easy top ten of all time. And, you know,
33:16some people, younger people might put him five, you know.
33:18It's just, he's got to continue to pile up the numbers.
33:22And I think there's people that are just kind of slept on,
33:25like John Havlicek, all-time leading scorer in Celtic history
33:29has slept on because he retired in 1978. You know, we all
33:34remember the greatness of Pierce. And then you want, you know,
33:38do you put guys in there like Kevin Garnett, who didn't play
33:41a whole long time, six years? Bray Allen, Dennis Johnson,
33:45you know, obviously this is a lot of guys, right?
33:51But I think Tatum is working his way into the top ten
33:54and can finish maybe in that top three or four by the time
33:59his career is over. I don't know if he'll ever eclipse
34:02Russell or Bird just for the sake of how great they were.
34:06And they'd be asking a lot. And then Kuzi. But, you know,
34:12could he get to a Havlicek level? Probably, yeah.
34:15You get to a Havlicek level. He could get to, you know,
34:18he probably eclipsed Pierce. If he wins another championship,
34:22he probably eclipsed Pierce. But I think he's working his way
34:26up the list. And obviously it's only been seven years.
34:29He's got, we'll see how many more, you know, ten more,
34:33maybe. I don't know. He's only 26 years old.
34:36So he's got a lot of time left and he can work his way
34:40definitely up that list. Yeah. When you look at the Celtics
34:43Pantheon with great players through the years,
34:47Russell and Bird, I think, are just in a completely different
34:50wing of the building than everyone else. And so to me
34:53that's like the last frontier of greatness. If you're a Celtic
34:57and Tatum is nowhere near that right now. But when you start
35:00looking at that middle tier where you have guys like
35:02Havlicek, you've got guys like, you know, Sam Jones,
35:05you got guys who won a ton of titles, Kevin McHale.
35:08I would say he's at the back end of that middle tier.
35:12But you mentioned Paul Pierce and I love me some people. Some
35:16Paul, but if Tatum retired right now
35:20and you have one spot in that all-time great Celtics list
35:24and it was either Paul or Tatum. I think you're going to take
35:26Tatum. I think you take Tatum and because you look at the
35:31championships, they're dead. Even right now. Yeah, you look
35:34at the overall win-loss record. And again, Tatum played with
35:37better players, but Tatum was the best player on those teams.
35:39So it's not like he was just on for the ride. So statistically,
35:44but yeah, I guess statistically Tatum at this point in his
35:50career is at a better career than Pierce and he's won a
35:52championship. And so, you know, I think he's moved slightly
35:55ahead of Paul in that regard. But for Tatum, he clearly wants
36:00to be the one of if not the all-time greatest player to
36:03ever play in his franchise. And he's got a nut. He's got at
36:06least half a dozen guys that are still ahead of him. But a
36:09second championship puts him. I think right there in that top
36:12five, a second and a third championship in this day and
36:16age. We've got so many more teams and the competition to
36:19win. Now, you start nipping at the Russell Bird comparisons
36:24and they become legitimate. If you can win three titles, like
36:26a five, six-year window. Well, right now, I would say he's a
36:30lock to be top 10 all-time great Celtic and with the potential
36:35to be easily in the top five in another with another
36:39championship or two, which is which is incredible that this
36:43guy could be in one of the top five all-time great Celtics
36:46before he turns 30. He's got that kind of potential. Well,
36:50you teed me up perfectly. What would a second title do for his
36:53legacy? A second title would cement his place as one of the
36:57all-time greats. You can't question him at all. You look
37:01at his scoring. You look at any other thing too. And we've
37:03talked about this before almost every metric that Tatum is
37:08among the best to do it. He was the youngest Celtic to do it.
37:12The youngest to get to this mark, the youngest to get to
37:14that mark. And that though to me, those are cookie crumbs
37:17telling you that this guy is on a path to being one of the
37:20all-time greats because he's doing everything before anyone
37:23else did it that early in their careers. And that, you know,
37:27part of it is obviously, he started early when he was a
37:30teenager, but you still got to get them buckets. You still
37:32got to get the rebounds and it's not like he was playing
37:35with a bunch of mediocre players. I mean, you play with
37:38Kyrie Irving Gordon Hayward when he was like all NBA Gordon
37:41Hayward, you know, Jalen Brown is showing himself to be a
37:44great player. You start looking at the everybody. Honestly,
37:48you start looking at the players that he has been around
37:51and not only has he been able to play with them in many cases.
37:54He's outperformed them. We're talking about a bunch of guys
37:57that are going to be, you know, certainly Kyrie Hall of Famer
37:59Hall of Famer and those other guys were top 10 top 15 top
38:0320 players at the time that Tatum was holding his own
38:06statistically and helping his team win. So he another title
38:10would cement his legacy as one of the all I'd say he'd be
38:14just right on the cusp of being top 5 all-time with another
38:17title. Thanks. Yeah, no title would would obviously
38:22he's so young still says same 26 and has a lot of career
38:26left. Yeah, you can definitely get on, you know, rise on that
38:30list. And then you're talking about, you know, just being
38:36obviously never have a number retired and you know, just being
38:40a legend in the city being on that David Ortiz being on that
38:44thing where it's like every time your name is mentioned.
38:47There's just people associated with greatness. So that's what
38:50he's going for now. And obviously got a lot of time left
38:53to do it. The team is ramped up to make a make another deep run.
38:59But now that's the thing is making that adjustment from
39:02trying to just win it once now getting greedy and trying to
39:05win more multiple and being in that Steph Curry where you were
39:09we went for those Jane things and you can't nobody ever say a
39:13word to you. Any group you walk into that's that's the status
39:16now people can quiet that. Oh, well, he's not the best player
39:19to knock winning all that that's done. Now. He goes and
39:23continues up that list. Well, that's all for this week's
